I’d still put W&L as second based on strength of schedule.

I don’t think Wm Smith rises with a tight win over unranked team. Even with Gettysburg beating TCNJ.

W&L lost to York...doesnt that drop them from #2?

Yup I saw the York game.

I still think W&L’s schedule and wins are more impressive than Wm. Smiths so far.

Although I am a Herons fan, I tend to agree with lax410. I watched the W&L/Tufts game and, after trailing 3-2 after one quarter, W&L went on a 14/2 run. They looked unstoppable. Does it really matter whether a team polls at 2 or 3 or 4?
I thought the game against SJF was a great character test for the Herons. Half way through the third quarter it seemed like they might lose. And then they took the game away from SJF.

Well, it looks like WS and SJF get to meet again in a week. Should be good! Go herons!

I believe either Wes or Tufts goes to the final 4. I was impressed with Smith's athleticism and the D zone is tough. However, both Wes and Tufts see zones so no surprises for them. Also, Herons have had a pretty weak schedule so the weekend with back-to-back tough games will be difficult. If the weather is hot the Herons will wear down for lack of depth. However, their midfielder is one of the best in the country, and their draw unit is excellent as well. Should be 3 great games in that region.

My list of significant stats in WS’s 14-4 win over Tufts:
  • WS won 17 of 22 draws.
  • Tufts made 0 of 8 attempts at the free position line. Maura Smeader made 4 saves on FP shots.
  • The game had a running clock five minutes into the third period.
It was a comprehensive win by the Herons.

The third bullet is hilarious for all the chest beating NESCAC fans. Especially since Tufts also beat Wesleyan twice in like 3 weeks.

Great win. No doubt. Lots to be proud about. I’m far from a Nescac fan but that conference is the gold standard and deservedly so. Yesterday a really good tufts team got their doors blown off.

Agreed. Earlier in the season, I was less sure about WS because their OOC schedule wasn’t as rigorous as some at that time. But they showed themselves to be dominant this weekend for sure.

Her stick is in the crease on the follow through.

Goal Crease violation: A player (other than the goalie) may not enter the goal crease with any part of their body or stick. If a player's stick crosses the crease after a goal, the goal will not count.

My daughter is a former high level D3 defender and current referee.

She will tell you that contact is not the same as a push. She would not have called a push and would have waved off the goal.

Offsides is frequently missed at the end of the game while referees focus on fouls rather than offsides. If they do call offsides, it burns precious running clock time, essentially shortening the game. Offsides at the end of a game is a stall tactic that is sometimes used by the defense.

Give Saint John Fisher Some RESPECT! Sunday yes, Saturday no! The only thing dominant in Saturday's game was bad officiating. This was a perfect jump ball pass and dunk. The goal was taken away for being in the crease? Middle pic the leg nearest the line is a WS defender who is pushing from behind. Ball was then given to WS. no foul? was the back official asleep? How about at least after the play have a ref huddle conference and talk about it? THESE ARE SWEET 16 OFFICALS? She just blew the whistle and ran the other way. At that point in the game its was 4-4 in the 3rd, Not taken anything away from the Herons! Both teams played so hard. But these refs we terrible. Comments welcome.
Respectfully as someone who played football numerous times against SJF, if they called it for WS it was the right call!

Thanks, Mgt
