Actually third: Cornell has had 28 invites.
Right, sorry, always forget about Cornell being an Ivy instead of a landgrant college ;)

Jack Parr released from the Gulag, on the field today. Sure am glad no opposition coaching staffs have caught up to the Bear's rolldodge/pass to the middle of the field offense.

watched a little of the second quarter, lots of dropped passes and other unforced turnovers. Only down by 4 is a gift - maybe they'll climb back into this

No shutout. Gives Yale something to aim for in their game v the Bears (although Sconone>Starr all day)
No energy on O; UMass playing smothering D, aggressive D because no one has shown the ability to run/dodge by a defender and UMass knows it. Man up no better than 6v6 offense.
Bear clears a bit better as they seem to be trying to keep the ball in the sticks of 3, 13, 33 and away from their poles when possible.
D and Goss playing ok considering what they see happening across midfield. Gotta be draining.
Minutemen will continue to play controlled offense as long as the lead holds up and the Bears avoid TOs.

Ouch. Brutal stretch of schedule ahead too. Bears need to buck up or this season could get ugly fast.

BRWN UMASS
Shots 36 37
Turnovers 20 22
CTs. 6 10
F/O Won 11 12
Extra-Man.1/8 1/3
GBs. 30 30
Clears. 14-18 14-18

Looks like a close one!
Saves. 5 17

Of course this doesn't indicate the quality of the SoG by the respective offenses.

Nice to see #66 have a really good game. Team needs the positive input.

Also too it formatted well, until I submitted. Then the website did its thing.

Not a league game, but important to turn around a losing streak. 'Nova got off the schneid last time out, a win v Fairfield after 3 losses. Bruno's turn next!
Let's go Bears!

Turned game on in Q4 with Villanova leading 10-5. Bears clawed back to 10-9 and had a shot on the doorstep saved by Villanova goalie with 1 second left. Goss had 17 saves but most were in 1st half, which I missed. Aughavin, Kniffen and Grell scored down the Q4 stretch. Princeton (2-5) next. But first, Princeton plays Denver tomorrow at home.

Hard to sugarcoat the product on the field today. Taking an L against Princeton this weekend will essentially eliminate a shot at ILT.

Was good to see so many Freshmen on the field today. They made some mistakes but it’s better in the long term to get run now.

It’s all good to have long sticks playing offense when you have Tullet and Kemp on the roster but the coaches need tighten the leash on the Dmen. A few lost possessions in a one goal game make a huge difference.

We cleared 22-24 (best percentage of the year) versus 21-26 for Nova who leads the nation in clearing percentage. More than a few of those clears were led by long sticks in transition that lead to good man advantage opportunities and none of the failed clears had anything to do with a long stick. Some pretty key GBs and middle of the field plays by that long pole group led to critical possessions and goals as well.
Brown only had 11 turnovers (fewest of the year) and just 1 in the 4th compared to 13 turnovers for Nova who is averaging the 5th fewest turnovers in the nation. Goalie had his best game of the season too so we had a good opportunity to win this one. Just needed a few more shots to drop. We haven’t been scoring in the past 3 games like we did in the first 5 games but I’m optimistic we’ll get back on track.
Agree that it was good to see those big freshmen middies on the field. They’re starting to look more comfortable and it’s just a matter of time before they start producing. I’d imagine we’ll see a lot more of them in the 2nd half of the season.

Agreed, clears are improving, as is longpole play with the ball, to a degree. It is what it is; with the 20 sec clear you have to get it to the open man whatever he's carrying. It's easy to see the open man from the stands. On the field, with 2 opponents bearing down on you... experience=vision. But we have been spoiled by 25, 42, 88.

Big road game against a Princeton team coming off a strong midweek win v (an honestly not-quite-as-strong-as-usual) Denver squad. Bears on a 2 game win streak v the Tigers; '18 regular season, '17 ILT, and hope to avoid the same result as the last regular season visit to Class of '52 Stadium, a thumping. Bruno a definite underdog, but this is a great chance to move towards the magic 3-3 record and a tiebreak ad over a likely competitor for the last few ILT slots. A loss and it may be time to really give the freshmen fieldtime, although at least th UPenn game is in Pvd.

Good point. Realistically, this is the play-in game for the ILT. If Bruno loses, they will probably have to go 2-1 against Yale, Penn and Cornell since Princeton is tracking to 3-3, owning the tiebreaker over Brown. Someone needs to get Sowers to chug about 20 beers at Tiger Inn on Friday night. The kid is filthy:

Signs of life by 2nd half of Q1. Goss w some nice (and very necessary) saves. Except for a basic inability to catch and throw :? the O doesn't look overmatched by Pton's D WHEN IT HAS THE BALL. Looks like a McShea day at fo.

Best quarter of the year Q2? #9 doing a nice job on Sowers (hate to say it: bad juju) staying calm, maintaining position not trying for highlight takeaway. Pton O seemed to slow down when they brought Sowers out front. When their clock goes under 20 they should just put him at the endline and take one of those fake over-the-crossbar shots to get the ball back in his stick. Every fo for Bruno this year is like pulling teeth. Put a shock collar on 27 and zap him whenever he looks to make an offensive move. Bears could be up 4 except for #@*&ing stupid unforced TOs; they can work this Princeton D.

Great effort! Nice chrome hats! Picking knits: would like to see more control when under end-of-game pressure. Point of interest: the soph middies 4, 42 have a nice touch when receiving passes on the crease; not just outside bombers.

HUGE bounceback win! I wasn’t able to watch, as I’m downtown at the hockey regionals, but I just checked the score fully expecting the worst and was thrilled with what I found. Princeton is always really tough at home. Looks like Goss had himself a nice day, and McCaleb carried the offense. That’s a winning formula.

Great win. 2-0 in Ivy play. Big test next week against a very strong Penn team who are tops in the Ivy this year.
I think Cook had 2 maybe 3 goals taken away on very poor crease calls today. McCaleb one as well. No idea what the refs were seeing on those. Some of them didn’t even seem close to violations.
So is freshman Geppert the #1 cover man on Brown? Quite surprised to see him on Sowers, and the score sheet indicates he did a very solid job. Good job from coach on down.

Who knows what goes on at practice; he may have been a very good on-ball guy since the fall, and just needed to improve off-ball, slide recognition, and stickskills. Can't afford bricksticks w the 20 sec clear. (Not saying he was)

Ivy League Standings

Penn 3-0
Brown 2-0
Yale 2-1
Harvard 1-1
Cornell 1-2
Dartmouth 0-2
Princeton 0-3

Somehow the IL computer prediction calls for a 14-13 Brown win Saturday. They must have a data entry column for alumni weekends which is boosting Brown’s chances. If the boys manage a win, that will make them a somewhat surprising 3-0, alone atop the Ivy standings. Barring an upset in Hanover, if Brown then picks off either Yale or Cornell, they lock up a share of the regular season title. Dare to dream!!!
