It's time to stop with the "free" market idiotology and come up with a universal health care package for all.
The problem with that cartoon is that it represents what socialized medicine already looks like in the USA....its called the VA.

Oops, we already of what so many are pandering for, and its evident it does not work any better, may been worse than what we already have.
The VA isn’t properly funded. That’s it. That’s the problem. If it was, they’d get whatever is needed, full stop. No red tape. Just show your ID—-and get what you need. Instead? You get a system that’s designed to say “no” because they don’t have money. Bet they waste hundreds of millions to have processors paid to say “no, you can’t prove this happened on the battlefield.”

Wanna see real socialist care? UMichigan. UMaryland. UCLA—-all government medical personnel. Best care in the world. But as I’ve said 1,000 times ——fake conservatives think “that doesn’t count as socialism “. Sorry, it counts.
The VA is finally getting it right. I guess after the sacrifice of so many of our young people they are stepping up big-time. I went to the new VA facility on Caulkins Rd in Rochester last fall. I always thank every veteran I meet for their service. When I went into that facility with my 82nd airborne baseball cap the people that took care of me thanked me for my service. When I looked at all of the young and old veterans that day I was so grateful that our government finally started to pay back a debt to these men and women who sacrificed so much for their country. The government can get healthcare right. I don't have a link. I hope all of you look up the VA hospital on Caulkins Rd. I thought for a long time that taking care of our veterans was lip service. They finally got it right.
   They didn't just finally get it right. I have been telling you for as long as these forums have existed, the VA does a really good job when funded properly. The problem today is that funding remains spotty. When a new facility is brought online it is properly funded, but as time goes by they become less effective because we don't continue funding the facility at the needed level. New facilities are always great.
You never had the privilege of having to use the old VA outpatient clinic on Westfall Rd. The place was a chithole and an embarrassment to veterans health care. They did finally get it right Dr Wizard. The desperate need for help for these veterans could finally not be ignored any longer. My primary care physician works out of the new facility on Caulkins Rd. I'm willing to give credit where credit is due. The government did get it right but it did not come about easily. I enjoy using my facility, I enjoy chatting with all the veterans while we are waiting to see our doctor. All a person needs to do is look at the baseball caps these old soldiers wear on their head when they come in. The conversation follows.
... over the past 40 years I have (my company) been involved in supplying equipment and software for many dozens of new VA hospitals and clinics across the US. I am glad that they finally got around to your old VA facility. But the fact stands, what you have seen has been seen by many dozens of VA facilities in the US over the past 40 years. What you will see over the next 20 years is what has been seen by all the other VA facilities, an inability to sustain this bright shiny new facility due to insufficient operating budgets. I am sure you will avoid this because your facility and you are special.
Somehow politicians and bureaucrats never contemplate or understand Opex…the only discussions are capex. Hence my major distrust on spending (second order events in general but when any generic kid can learn to model Argus to hear DCF models for CRE projects line item by line item I don’t understand how this happens every single time where nobody was prepared for the opex)
... it is the biggest problem the VA has. It is not just the politicians and bureaucrats, ultimately it is the citizens who don't want to pay what it really costs.

C&S: Chuck Schumer   Won't save you. No single politician will. All VA facilities run short of the needed operating budget to maintain facility effectiveness. Enjoy it while it lasts.
It will last as long as Chuck Schumer runs the Senate. I don't think he is going away anytime soon. You seem to have some sort of a problem with veterans getting the quality healthcare they deserve, does that bother you in some way?
No.

You seem to have a problem with reality.

Yes, yes, yes... 8-)
Your the one with the reality problem. America finally decided to take care of its veterans. That could have something to do with the ever increasing number of politicians who are veterans and served our country since 9/11. You think they are going to throw our veterans under the bus? What is really sad is that our veterans finally getting what they have earned seems to just pizz you off to no end. Suck it up buttercup!! :D. Maybe you should complain to Chuck Schumer?? He helped to make this happen. To pizz you off even more, Chuck helped get the federal dollars to upgrade the VA hospital in Canandaigua, NY. If you ever visited one of these facilities perhaps even an angry FLP liberal like yourself would have a different understanding. Sadly compassion and understanding what these veterans gave to our country doesn't exist in your wheelhouse. FTR does the 100s of millions being spent to improve Walter Reed also pizz you off as well?

This is what a new coat of paint and cutting a ribbon is all about?? FFG, take that 20 minute ride from Geneva to Canandaigua next time your in town. The VA hospital is on Ft Hill Rd. Spend some time and make some new friends. Pay attention to the plaque and what it says when you drive through the front gate.
Why do you hate our veterans so much??
You’re last question would be a stupid one if posed by a labotomized cat. So so very dumb and worthless.

What do you continue to function in life so in the dark about the entire world around you?
Whatever do you mean??? If you drive from Geneva heading west on 5 and 20 you will run into " the chosen place" in about 20 minutes. Why do you hate veterans so much?? Go check it out for yourself.
So dumb. Not even listening or reading to get to comprehension.

One day maybe you’ll understand concepts like depreciation, decay, maintenance
Maybe someday a dumb f**k like yourself will understand the sacrifices made in your name. I highly doubt that will ever happen. I think your lifestyle is responsible for the brain damage you suffer from today. :D
Absolute darkness. I could do a lot more and be miles ahead of that mentality….

The idea this has anything to do with anyone’s view of the military and not understand words is amazing. You shouldn’t have a drivers license it’s clear.

This wisdom from a moron who equates 100s of millions of dollars spent upgrading VA medical facilities to a fresh coat of paint and a ribbon cutting ceremony. Do you actually read some of the stupid chit you compose? I asked you to visit the VA hospital in Canandaigua next time your in town and judge for yourself. Was that too difficult a request for you to handle? Your the idiot who made the asinine analogy in the first place. Maybe if you checked it out yourself you might understand what is happening at these VA facilities is not just a fresh coat of paint. No need to believe me, you are free to see it for yourself.

Opex dipshit. You’re the idiot who’s allowing the politicians to pull forward the benefits for themselves while selling out the veterans for not properly planning and budgeting long term. I’m the one looking out for their long term interests.

I will try not to make this too long or about myself but the last 4 days in the hospital due to an infection in my shoulder 7 weeks out from rotator cuff surgery wound up being way more serious than I thought. I was lucky because the same day I noticed the spot at the incision was infected I had a follow up appointment with my orthopedic surgeon. He made sure I was going to operated on the next day.

I was danger close to having a complication called osteomyelitis which is very bad news. The rest of what I want to say is gratitude for the doctors and nurses that took care of me. What I learned about how things are done is eye opening

The biggest problem that my wife agrees with 100% is that the system is woefully short of experienced nurses. Example being if your recovering in an orthopedic wing and the nurses there have almost no orthopedic nursing experience that is a problem.

I learned that many of the younger, though well qualified with 4 year degrees are lacking in important fundamentals. The ability to insert an IV is a prime example. I had 6 failures at inserting IVs in my arm not all on the same day. The day of my surgery the nurse inserted the IV in the arm that was going to be operated on. I thought that was odd until they brought me up to get ready for surgery and the anesthesiologist noticed the error and was not happy about it. They then had to pull that IV and put it in my other arm. That first attempt failed and the 2nd attempt didn't go easy. In the meanwhile the entire surgery staff is standing around twiddling their thumbs waiting to wheel me in.

On day # 2 I was on a potent IV antibiotic called vancomycin. One of the things an experienced nurse understands is that antibiotic is very irritating to the skin tissue at site of the IV. Sure enough my wrist became very inflamed and very sore. If I hadn't noticed it that could have been a big problem.

I hope in the near future these issues with nurses can be addressed. COVID was the culprit for this problem. There was a huge exit of experienced nurses and the rush to find warm bodies has created many good new young nurses that are sorely lacking in some vital fundamentals. This isn't just my opinion my nurse wife sees it everyday. Many of the nurses in the colonoscopy procedure rooms don't know when, where or how to give pressure when the doctor is struggling to maneuver the scope through the colon. That is a huge deal that greatly increases the chances of a worst case scenario..a perforated colon.

I apologize for making this more about me. I did learn something about the doctors in charge of Infectious Diseases.. they take no chances when it comes to these infections. I was not very patient having to cool my heals in the hospital while they were waiting for bacterial cultures to grow. They still have not grown but they finally let me go home with some potent oral antibiotics. My mission tomorrow is to call the clinic and hope they have the results. The worst case scenario involves having to go back in to have a pic line put in for IV antibiotics. My wife had to straiten me out about what that involves. A pic line is pretty complicated being that the catheter winds up being inserted close to the heart. I'm am so lucky that despite my complaints the vast majority of these medical are good at what they do.

We want people to bring themselves to this so no apologies needed for that. Just watch out for C-Diff because once you get it it becomes very hard to manage at home. Before my dad died from that they had him in for weeks not doing a needed hip replacement and when I came back from a three week overseas trip expecting him to be in rehab w a new hip instead I found him with a mouth/tongue completely coated with a crusty yellow layer because while he has ischemia in the stomach and couldn’t eat nobody bothers to check him for any oral care he couldn’t do for himself. So yeah nursing leaves something to be desired in this country.

Good luck. I don’t like to hear about anyone in pain and feel for you.

C-diff is already addressed. Having a GI nurse for a wife is a good thing. I'm already on pro biotic yogurt therapy. Matter of fact I had my yogurt for breakfast. If I have any advice to give anyone if you think you have an infection don't ignore it. There is some irony in that in 4 weeks my wife will be in that same hospital on that same floor getting her knee replaced.
