This came as a surprise to my D today. She thought it was tomorrow.....good thing they got that figured out or the Lakers would win by default. Ah, but that would bump up Robinson's ranking

Re: A start, storm & finish
Down at the prision yard the game started early with doubleheader action at SoCo with GLax going first. The girls started early but then the rains & thunder chased everyone indoors for about an hour & 20 minutes with the game 2-1 Cavs 7 minutes gone. After the weather break the Cavs came out firing going up 10-3 at the half. Second half lots of subs & the clock ran at about 17 minutes left. Some late goals made it 16-6 at the final horn. The announcer said the Stallion Feed bag - Snack Bar was voted the best in Lorton wait maybe he say in all of NoVA!?! Anyway having Chick-fil-A was a big plus as the Guys game was going on up on the upper field when the girls ended pulling everyone up there. Huge win for guy Cavs putting it on the Stallions 18-8 making Woodson the 2nd seed to Robo in both sides.

Re: Leaving No Doubt in the Liberty
It was over early, middle and late this evening on Georgetown Pike, as the Lady Laxons gave an exhibition that would make General Washington jealous, pounding Yorktown 21-3 in the Liberty District final. Not sure why the Liberty played their district tournament this week when most are next , but others in 6A hope that corrosive rain falls on the underground training facility next week (re: rust) as the Laxons await regional play in the VHSL tournament.
Re: Leaving No Doubt in the Liberty
Langley /UNC are/were the clear best teams.... Unless there is a BC out there in NOVA publics, Laxons will win the state.VALaxer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 8:47 pm It was over early, middle and late this evening on Georgetown Pike, as the Lady Laxons gave an exhibition that would make General Washington jealous, pounding Yorktown 21-3 in the Liberty District final. Re: 2021 Virginia Public GLAX
WTW v. WS last night was a thriller. Started with 2 quick goals by WTW to take an early 2-0 lead. WS rebounded with 2 goals and tied the game up 2-2 with #6 Kasky and #7 Chasteen for WS with the goals. Game goes into halftime with Woodson leading 4-3. The game was very defensive with both goalies playing a great game. With 4 minutes left the game was all tied up at 5-5 and #23 Sturtevant for WS beats the double team for a goal! Wait.. no goal! She’s in the circle. WTW ball still tied up at 5-5. WTW comes down and scored a go ahead goal with 3 minutes left to take a 6-5 lead. Sparty wins the ensuing face off and #23 Sturtevant for WS ties the game up at 6-6 with 1:30 left in the game! OT here we come.. In the final minutes of the first OT the WTW goalie made a stellar 1v1 save but took the shot on the chest and killed the remaining 30 seconds left before being walked off and sitting out the 2nd OT. The 2nd OT was a tense one with WTW getting a 8 meter half way into the OT. WS goalie made a great save off hip. OT #3 here we come and WTWs starting goalie is back in cage. WTW wins the draw and has a good play set up off a timeout but Sparty plays some good defense and causes a turnover. WS Coach calls a timeout on Woodsons side of the field with 35 seconds left. WTW shuts down the play that was drawn up for WS #7 Chasteen before dumping it off to WS #21. #21 Dalrymple, who usually is the assist man for the WS offense, takes her man from up top down the alley right handed before split dodging to her left hand to the middle and buries the left handed shot for a 7-6 win in 3OT for WS with 15 seconds left in the 3OT! Hard fought, well coached game by both WS and WTW with both goalies playing lights out and both sides playing their hearts out. Game of the year candidate for the northern region.

Re: It wasn't pretty...
Congrats to Coach Puhlick for a masterful job as he got rid of half his defense since the previous game moving back an attacker to defense & took the air out of the ball for long, long stretches. The real game winner was #23 Sturtevant who took the 14 draws for Sparty as she won 12 of them all 8 in the 2nd half, allowing for ball controlling 3-5 minute possessions. Cavs led 4-3 at the half & 6-5 with 4 minutes left until #23 got the tying goal as the Cavs had seen the Robo game & had shut down her scoring. Sparty had the ball all game until the OTs when Coach Lewis had had enough & sent the Senior in, who stepped up (best thing about frosh is they become Sophomores) & won all three OT draws. Still the Cavs couldn't play to their potential with an attacker taking her second YC (only two issued in the game?) in the first OT but West Springfield couldn't convert in the full 2 minutes as they got a shooter 1v1 with the goalie. Gross, the WTW keeper made the save on a bullet but it knocked her out of the game for the 2nd OT. Cavs threw it away in the 2nd OT but the future keeper Sine had come on & made a point blank save to force the game to continue. Third OT the Cavs again get the DC & have it set up with an iso until their attacker just drops the ball in the arc at 5 meters, 2nd best WS player #7 Chasteen (hat-trick) & #23 can't get open but #21 get the ball & goes to goal & buries her shot - game over. It was a decade in coming helped by the Sparty midfield that was the best unit on the field.
Re: It wasn't pretty...
I had heard the result last night and waited for the reports here. Looks like we got two - UAO and SpartyLax....sounds like it was a reflux type of game --burp--. The second round of Districts is always the heartbreaker as the loser is done. Congrats to West Spring on what I would call an upset. Good luck tomorrow at Robo as both teams advance to Regionals (AFAIK).UnderArmourOdor wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 12:47 pm Congrats to Coach Puhlick for a masterful job as he got rid of half his defense since the previous game moving back an attacker to defense & took the air out of the ball for long, long stretches. Re: It wasn't pretty...
I think at least the top 4 in Districts make the Regionals this year. Not sure of anything under COVID rules, but thought the District brackets that I've seen have at least 4 advancing to the "next round" as it is called.Dr. Tact wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 3:20 pm

Also heard that the game last night was an instant classic, slowed-down defensive battle, with both goalies and defenses playing at a high level as both teams had a series of long high pressure possessions against each other with both coaches using multiple timeouts to draw things up try to get anything going. Heard both teams had multiple opportunities, but goals were at a premium with the GK play. Tough one for anyone to lose.

Patriot District Final
Robinson (H) 10 v. West Springfield 2
Robinson goalie was a brick wall all night, at least 6 1v1 stops on the crease. Robos defense played a great game. West Springfield had looks on offense but couldn’t finish. #10 Hill and #4 dominated the game for Robinson. Robinson #4 dominated the draws winning all but 2. Hats off to Robinson for continuing their undefeated season and a well coached game.
