A few things:oldtimelax wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 9:01 am In defense of my poll this week...."CNU 9th,Dickinson 10th, Rhodes 18, Colorado College 19, and Muhlenberg 20. Most won’t be top 20 teams except for CNU, but in the 9 hole?"
CNU is undefeated, has beaten three tradition powers - one by 9 goals and the other by 12. Maybe they won't be there in two weeks, but based on the early body of work they are deserving. Dickinson got that rank based on early win over Stevens (loss to E-Town this week will drop them significantly). As for the last three -- I decided to reward teams that were undefeated and had wins over solid teams instead of loading up my poll with other NESCAC and northern squads that haven't played yet. Again, once they hit the field and have a resume -- I will be glad to add them in.
1. Very generous to consider Hampden-Sydney or Washington College "traditional powers" in 2020. H-S has made one NCAA tournament in the last decade and a half. One! I get that WC used to be a perennially strong program, but they haven't even made their own conference tournament since 2015.
2. Why would anyone's history matter for how we view them this year? Isn't it more relevant that WC has been annihilated in both their games this year (and has struggled for the past five) than that they made the semis in 2014? Aren't Roanoke's (relative) struggles in recent seasons more relevant than accomplishments from many years, if not decades ago?
3. Have CC/Muhlenberg actually beaten anyone solid? (this is kind of a rhetorical question)
FWIW, as I said in an earlier comment I don't disagree at all that CNU or Dickinson merit top twenty consideration. Just poking at some of the logic here.
