Our 2016 season is rapidly approaching.
1. Team Rosters: I've posted each team's 2015 roster minus the graduated players below. You can remove players from your roster but please let us know who these dropped players are so coaches will have an opportunity to draft them.
2. First Game: The first game of the NCAA season that counts (for us) is on February 27th.
3. The Draft: The current plan is to have the Draft on Sunday, January 31st starting at 8 PM EST.
a. If you cannot make the draft, please let me know ASAP. We will set-up an auto-draft for you or make some other arrangements.
b. The draft order is below. We will use a down-the-river, up-the-river format. i.e. UberHop to NCLax, NCLax to UberHop, etc.
c. Each coach has 2 minutes to make their pick. After 2 minutes, the "next coach" in the draft order can pick. If a coach picks a player that is ineligible or otherwise, the "next coach" can pick and the previous picking coach can "catch-up". i.e. The draft will start sharply at 8PM EST. At 8:02 EST, the "next coach" can pick.
4. The “Draft List”: The players that you will be able to draft consist of players from:
a. All not-already-claimed players from these 24 teams: Hopkins, Navy, Rutgers, UMass, UMD, Towson, UNC, UVA, G'town, Loyola, P'ton, Cornell, NDU, Duke, OSU, PSU, UMBC, Denver, Hofstra, Syracuse, Hobart, Army, Fairfield and UPenn.
b. All incoming freshman to the 24 teams listed above.
c. All not-already-claimed players that are transferring to the 24 teams listed above.
d. All rosters need to have a minimum of one defensive team and a maximum of two defensive teams. You will draft your defensive team from the 24 teams listed above. You do not keep your defensive team from the 2015 season.
e. The roster for each squad will consist of 14 “players”. You can have as many attackmen or middies on your squad as you’d like but for each week’s games, you can only start 3 attackmen, 3 middies, and 1 defensive team.

Per usual, we're starting the draft early/now. (Uber is picking.) At 8 PM EST, we'll shift from this more informal timing of each pick to a '2 minutes to make your pick' format.

I was so sure I would get the Navy add. So obscure I thought no one would know of him. Two years ago he was all Met DC. Great athlete. Maybe the best late round get this year.

Schindler UMBC is story. Two all time great lax players in his family history. Lost his dad a few years ago to a heart attack and his mom last year to cancer. He has a gofundme page. I was going to add him just because I wanted to follow his career. It's a nice story down here. Glad someone added him

I messed up my austin sims pick, luckily i mostly had a team this year of continuing players so havent paid too much of a price for it
And yeah the glesener choice i was just luckily with because im on UK time, however it did mean i missed the draft live and i paid for it in numerous ways this year!

BTW, I think Bosher will do well for me, if not this season then perhaps next.. As for Lawrie, he carries A/M status and may benefit me down the road. I have made some bone-headed draft picks and some really good ones. If Mathias is a good pick, I'd be happy to have this pointed out to me down the road. And I appreciate the banter now, Matt. I have absolutely zero inside information. All information I gather is available on the web for everyone.
Also, thanks for organizing the draft this year. With all the compensatory picks, it was probably a lot more challenging than it usually is and it usually seems incredibly challenging.

I think Bosher is a stellar pick.
Look at how he did in his 2 scrimmages.
6'1" 215lb Canadian with a nice background (MVP of the MInto Cup). I wanted him badly
I think he may be the steal of the draft, long term. Very Wesley Berg like.
May not have heard of him., but he was sitting behind some big guns last year.
Wwon't surprise me if he runs o-mid, maybe first line this year and starts at attack next year.

Did Joe French really just get dropped? Yes his stats weren't good first two season but he was behind some big attckers
He's been starting attack during fall ball for uva according to inside lacrosse....
If I didn't like my team so much he'd be getting picked, so anyone with an attacker to burn I'd snap it up

How did I miss him? Not that he was available for my pick (props to Maddog here), but I didn't even consider him, and I would've thought he could make it to my pick.

Nathan,
He is starting because Pannel was injured. That is my guess. D'Amario is thought to be the likely third starter. At least the job is his to lose from what I can tell. I have both and I decided to drop one. He could back into it but then maybe not. I thought the odds were more in mf favor going this direction. Hind sight is 20 20 but it's harder looking ahead. This is his junior year. I asked someone in the program about him more than a year ago and the reply was "tough kid". My thought process anyway

Just my way of ragging on you ohmi - there are no dummies in this league for sure! EZE killed me on 3 picks right in front of me, especially Miller. Then later on Bomberry - I think he may be a great on - family lines DO matter in lax. I think I'll have a rough year, but by taking so many frosh - maybe a few will pan out. I was also shocked at how many D's went real early - forced me to pick a #6 choice in 3rd round. All of these coaches are too smart, so its a real battle for an old dude like me lmao.

This league has matured and it shows in the shorter list of returning point scorers. PA Talk and I were talking about this last night and how managers realize the importance of a good Defense. Or maybe, the devastation a bad D will bring.
The Top D last year was UMD +36, versus the worst, UPENN at -23. There is such a disparity and the impact is so huge that no one really waits anymore, and if they do it's a scramble to catch-up. 12 defenses had negative points last year... ouch!

The draft has changed.
I drafted a team that won one title and got to the finals a couple of years in a row based on Ben Rubeor who slipped and a couple of other players late. I was out of the league for a couple of those years so manager ability probably played a part
Back then you could gamble little known players would be available. Now the choice is take them where they belong on talent or someone else will get them or at least also be aware of them. I had four player picks. I was confident I could use my last pick to get a little known gem but they all went often to someone drafting just ahead of me. Lesson filed. There is going to be someone who knows about a player of I do. Certainly the information on Canadian players is better than it used to be. I think you're right that players are usually drafted where they should be. I'm usually hoping a players drops a couple picks, not a couple rounds.
You can get good contributors in later rounds. My attack from last year was Kevin Rice, Nikko Pontrello and Nick Doktor, none of which I drafted in the first round. I picked up Zack Sirico in the post draft adds/drops last year and he started at attack for Loyola and will probably be one of my starters this season. I only started 1 first round pick last year (Currier).
Who were the steals of this draft in your opinion? Josh Byrne? Who else?

I thought any of the three Denver players were steals. I have a couple of potentials. Runberg at Denver may turn out well. Transfer from DE who ran second midfield last year. He seems a good fit for their offense. Good asst numbers. The transfer to Hofstra at attack. I thought he would last longer. I am going to regret thinking that

This might sound silly but its clearly down to the internet ocanada... people like me in England now have pretty good access to stats, fall ball info and incoming freshman rankings, however there are still moments were things get missed if you dont pay attention 24/7... for example when randy statts came to the league, i only found out because i'd played lacrosse earlier that year with a Canadian who raved about it, not that i got him anyway.... i literally had no idea who byrne was till you guys mentioned him and holy crap he was definitely a top 5 grab of this draft. He will light it up at hofstra. So yeah you lose out on some players because there is info everywhere but occasionally your hard scouting will be an advantage... because someone like me would have never stolen byrne off you as i had no clue.
My draft was pretty poor, mostly because of where i started in the draft after a rather fortunate tournament last season but overall i'd rank my own draft as D- but my post draft changes id give a B, especially if hodgins runs first line middy for OSU as he has been touted to, Glesner was pure luck though
I think my squad is solid for 2016, will have some strength left for 2017 but then will be in dire straits 2018 and i dont like the outlook

Not silly at all. Very correct in my view.
Years ago I would probably have had most of the Canadians I coveted.
An example, I believe, on about my last round of one draft I picked up a Canadian attackman coming into UMBC. He put up 50 pts or more. They called him tugboat. I worked with a Canadian player who would give me tips.
So now I am drafting. Two years ago he told me Fox could fill the net. Hopkins is loaded with talent at middie. I think because of that he might last until it comes back to me in 13 picks. I take reputedly top 5 middie thinking I have a great double play here. Competition or not Fox goes shortly after. I let other things influence me and out smarted myself. Next year I am going with the best individual player and not trying to score a coup because what worked say 10 years ago don't know. I used to have a huge knowledge edge with the Canadians. McDonald PU should have gone earlier. I got the senior at Loyola and O'Reilly st GT after they should have been taken. Of course one then loses a crucial year and my replacement gets slammed and what should have been a string year blows up.

How does it work with players who are listed as Attack, but might play midfield their freshman year? I'm thinking about Jasinski from OSU and Concannon from Hopkins who are both attackmen but have played heavily in the midfield position in the pre-season.

we go by their listing on the team website until we see a box score or other evidence that shows something different. as we have several games before the Fantasy season starts, we should know by then.

Yes. I was going to wait until we got closer to the date of the first game that counts (2/27, i think) but... Might as well do it now.

Revisiting this...
I was wrong about Mathias. I thought Roesner was the right pick for a UPenn attackman, but Mathias was a very good 1st round pick.
Roesner still might be a steal in the 3rd round.
Austin Sims was a great pick. He was on my list because he was dropped the same night.
The jury is still out on Bosher. He didn't have much impact this season. Injured? He has 2 years to get some points, but was he worth a first round pick? If he starts for a year or 2 at attack and puts up big points, the answer is "yes", otherwise, "no".
I picked Solomon and am feeling good about what he might contribute for the next 3 seasons.
If Piroli hadn't gotten injured he would've been a good pick, but only for 1 season, so I'm still not sure he's worth a second round pick.
Rupp was second on Cornell in points, so that's looking good. Bray was also a nice pick.
I think Brad Smith will be a 1st line middie for Duke for 3 seasons. Still looks good. Lawrie? Not so sure.
