Bad news is Towson got smoked by Virginia. Good news is it means nothing. Coaches will figure out move on

Towson’s second/third string beat Hobart pretty good in a 40 minute, running clock game.

How’s Mazza looking?

What does that mean?

Doesn’t sound to kind. Towson had a bad day vs Va. I stayed for a half & lunch started calling me. TU played in full sweats/ pajamas, Va played in shorts/ tees. This is a thing w a lot of coaches because of injury etc. You play 14-18 contests a year, and your trying individually to get better, and also as a team. Your playing the National Champions and everyone is 3Lbs heavier wearing pajamas , it’s going to be a long day. Canto woke up in the 2nd qtr, made some greats saves. Mazza has to do some stadium steps, feet have to get quicker. He will knock the rust off.
First impression for Saturday, Hopkins will be up, they were embarrassed last year vs Towson. If I’m Towson, 45-55 shots on Darby the goalie 45% last year. And challenge this Hopkins defense, they lost 2 starters @ close. Towson has a nice 1-2 punch at close D. Koby Smith & Bodden they can play anyone.
If Epstein does not play I’m putting K Smith up top, and let him play In space . They don’t have anyone who can run w him. Plus, he can play Zinn.
Qk got a report from his IL co- workers. It was ugly, but that’s why you play scrimmages.

Since 2015, the home team has won the game....

The Tigers, historically, don't put up north of 45 shots...last year was an exception and was likely due to (1) Woodall and (2) a willingness to push in transition. Team shooting percentage has never been a strong point.

A big question for me - who are the leaders?

I won’t be asking you give the pre game speech Saturday. 45 shots w the shot clock is not a reach. The Woodall talk has to stop yesterday, you cannot replace him. Only 2-3 fogos are 70%, hopefully you can find success w a platoon system & wing play. Leadership is a question, but that will come w practice & early season games .

Didn't realize you were the one arranging the pre-game pep talk. ;)

Regarding Woodall - he was as good as we've ever had, with last season being one for the record books. Going from 50% as a freshman to averaging over 60% for his career is a statement of how much he developed season over season. Considering the lpm's and ssdm over the past 5 years, wing play had a lot to do with his exceptional success.

Run and gun shoot-outs have never been the Tiger m.o....

I hope this years leaders have already shown themselves worthy and ready.

It will be interesting to see who picks up the offensive QB role....we do have to replace almost 125 points from Sunday/Monahan.

Or that whole shot clock thing...

It definitely had an impact on the O, we were able to push in transition and we could finish. You could count on 2-3 goals last season vs maybe 1-2 fast breaks before the clock.

Everything being equal, there is a fair amount of talent and experience on this team, a close game at Homewood wouldn't surprise me.

I know team was a little banged up last weekend. Hope most are good to go Saturday. I heard something about a few Red shirt kids sitting this weekend via NCAA Rule. Anyone have any details on this?

First time I have looked at the numbers -

13 Fresh
15 Soph
12/2 Jr/RJr
10/2 Sr/RSr

Big roster by historical standards, but consistent with the times.

We knew face-offs would be a problem but 20-6? That and offense looking stagnant. No Maloof for a game (NCAA suspension?) and Austin Stewart (?). Attack struggled though Mazza had two goals. Brody with 1 and 1, but neither played that well.EMO looked bad. Typical first game when you have so many losses, but it was 6-6 at one point. Like I said, just need to go 50-50 on face-offs and it's a different game. Wing play has to get better.

Oh yeah, Kobe Smith is pretty good.

Give Hop credit. They were much more physical. They wanted it more after last year's loss.
