Who was the first one to come up with this...one man's garbage is another man's gold but I've got to wonder how anyone saw gold in those piles of "garbage".
Never tried the French press, am still completely satisfied with my percolator. Kind of blows me away how much better percolated is than the coffee made in the drip appliances. I made a dripped pot awhile back just for the hell of it and I was reminded in one sip how much better percolated is.....don't know why but it is.
I recently purchased a one-cup Moka Pot for my afternoon expresso...does a decent job. Certainly not a true expresso, since it is far less pressure, but quick and easy for under $15. I use Cafe Bustelo. Been trying to make CUban Coffee with it, but I may need to get a larger Moka:

Brooklyn wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2024 11:51 pm A long while ago I won a bet against someone on LP. My victory premium was to be a pound of monkey butt coffee. But the loser defaulted. No surprise. Someone on youtube said it was his fave brand.

Well, there's another specialty coffee on the market that may deserve your attention:

Black Ivory Coffee = elephant butt coffee from Thailand
My son brought me home some of the Weasel Coffee from Vietnam: It is very good.

Love Vietnamese coffee, specifically cà phê sữa đá (iced coffee). Very easy to make.

In the last few weeks two Yemeni coffee cafes have opened in my neighborhood. While Ethiopia is thought to be the origin of coffee, Yemen is right up there in history. I’ll be curious about their style of coffee. Whatever method, sitting down and talking is preferred to pay and dash.

Here’s my coffeemaker
This Krups with #4 drip filter and thermal pot is about 25 years old. It quit working about 10 years ago, but now it works better than ever. I clipped the cord and turned it into a pour over style maker dripping directly into the thermal pot. The benefit is that I can get the water at the proper temp with my water kettle. Most automatic coffee makers don’t get the water hot enough as it should be 195-205F.

Nice - they are really simple machines and you can find the old Aroma Control machines for sale on ebay. Rather easy to repair.

Beets

Beets are pretty cool. I found a disclaimer about them early on in that seeing red in the toilet bowl doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem after eating beets. It's just that they're so potent they retain their color even after having been fully digested and processed. Highly nutritional. I warsh 'em, cut 'em into slices about 1/2" thick, then steam 'em for 10 minutes. Very handy to take to work for lunch during the week. They taste delicious without any help as well.

I am a steamer myself, but my wife roasts them covered in the oven.
They are much better roasted, but I wear out the steel wool cleaning it up.

Can't put a piece of aluminum foil in the pan you're roasting them in to eliminate the steel wool clean up?

Yes, how are they better roasted? Taste preference? Cleanup is a breeze with steaming.

The flavor is much more intense roasted. I can try to jump in ahead of the roasting process, thanks for the tip.

I prefer al dente which is what I get with 10 minutes of steam time.

Roasted is better, but I prefer to steam beets for pure ease. Cut into cubes with tomatoes, cucumbers with a disc of goat cheese dressed with balsamic vinegar and OO.

One of the sweet things about living in New York State
Not only having access to outstanding local maple syrup, but having a place like Cartwright’s Maple Tree Inn, located in Angelica, Allegany County. Only open for the several weeks during maple season. Folks pack this place as $10.95 gets you 2 ham, bacon or snausage and all you can eat buckwheat pancakes and real maple syrup from their own trees. To beat the crowds I went on a weekday on March. I was able to handle six with snausage. Cartwright’s was featured on CBS news today.

Record number eaten is 92.
Kept Rhonda busy for nearly the whole three minutes.
Some big hoss came in in the 70s
and let the Cartwrights know who the biggest and baddest of
'em all is. Not thinkin' the big hoss was light on the syrup on
the 92 either.
