In 2019, Penn put together one of the most spectacular runs in recent memory and churned out their best season since the 1980s. With the wealth of talent they possess, could the Quakers replicate that in the near future?

I think Harvard just had freshman on campus this fall and some select undergraduates. I count 16 total. I am sure come spring you will see the roster change to show more upperclassmen.

Yale men's lacrosse has 100% graduation success rate (as does Yale men's soccer).
Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard and Yale athletics have overall (all sports included) graduation success rates of 99%, tops in the country.

Probably no surprise that the Ivy is the top D1 conference in this regard.

So Harvard announced today that it was only bringing back seniors and juniors for the spring. Princeton has maybe 13 kids enrolled from sources. While Cornell has done an admirable job managing the process, it sounds like a 2021 Ivy season isn’t in the cards.

I suspect that you are correct. Harvard is interesting in that it is putting a significant number of posts on Instagram about its ongoing workouts, and the Friends of Harvard Lacrosse is continuing to push ahead with communications providing the impression that a season is expected (which could be plain and simple optimism).

It's going to be so tough for Harvard to try and play a season, unless the Ivy League Commissioner gathers all eight schools and they agree to play spring sports with everyone eligible. Those nine freshmen that were on campus now won't be, and it'll be seniors and most juniors which, if we go by Harvard's current roster, is five guys.

Trying to think if any IVY hockey players leave early to take a shot at the pros, which could contribute to the 1%. I don't remember any (and I follow hockey pretty closely). Donato I'm sure and Vesey I think finished up at Harvard before signing. I doubt any bball guys do as I don't think IVY bball is as equivalent to the NBA as IVY hockey is to the NHL.

I only follow Cornell hockey superficially but I do know it happens and can think of 3 Big Red players:

Joe Nieuwendyk (F) 1984-87
Dave LeNeveu (G) 2001-03
David McKee (G) 2003-06

Now with the pandemic, at least 2 Cornell players have announced they will forego their senior year and have signed NHL contracts.

Jack Rathbone signed with the Canucks this past spring/summer. He'll forgo his final 2 years at Harvard.
Reilly Walsh also signed with the New Jersey Devils and he'll miss his senior year at Harvard.

Adam Fox is the best active hockey Ivy. He played 3 years at Harvard and I'm pretty sure he hasn't graduated yet at least

Whoa! Notre Dame board reporting Ricciardellis flipping to ND. Huge loss for Penn if that stands.

Doug Dadswell (goalie) left the Big Red in 1986 after two seasons to join the Calgary Flames.

With four of 13 Pre-Season All-Americans from the Ivy League, there's one issue to note. If the Ivies don't play a 2021 season, and other leagues do play (as might be noted in ice hockey and, less relevantly, football), this could be a lopsided year for the Big Ten or ACC in representation on AA squads and in the NCAA Tournament. While the Ivies typically do take a back seat to these other conferences, 2020 and 2021 seem to be (or have been) particularly strong years for rosters and teams from the League.

Happy New Year to all Ivy grads and friends!

I suppose that 2020 is the year that might have been for Ivy lacrosse... such a promising start, with Princeton and Brown beating UVa, Cornell and Yale beating Penn State, Penn beating Duke, Harvard beating UMass, while Dartmouth had wins over Merrimack and Bryant.

Here's hoping that 2021 will be a good year for all of us.
