Darien drops another to a top team in the a nation on the island for a second consecutive weekend - 17-6 to St Anthonys Friars.
Wave is now 4-4 at the halfway mark of the season.

Re: Connecticut 2023
Was at the game and that SA team is fantastic. They had some grown men out there. Still think Darien will be there at the end in CT but they have played as tough a schedule as anyone in the country and it shows.
NC losing to Stepinac shocked me. I saw Stepinac play wilton (online) and I didn't think Wilton played well at all. Some of it was Step but a lot of it was just Wilton playing poorly - and they were in the game. Maybe Stepinac is for real.
Ridgefield gave it a great run today against Manhasset. Didn't see it but a 1 goal game is something to build on.
Wilton took down Yorktown in OT.
Re: Connecticut 2023
Never would have believed pre-season that CT would be 0-4 vs Stepinac and that the closest game would be St. Joe’s! Clearly that team is better than they have been in the last but I am also very surprised NC lost.
Re: Connecticut 2023
Not especially surprising that NC lost to Stepinac. I'm not familiar with Stepinacs program history but this may be their best team ever, they are good this year and have depth all over the field. NC has done well but the second half of their schedule is a buzzsaw compared to the first half.
Wilton was very lucky to come away with a W against Yorktown. They had a lot of mental mistakes that allowed Yorktown to stay in the game and gain their only lead late in the 4th quarter. Charlie Johnson scored on what were carbon copies of the same play to tie the game late and win it in OT. Charlie Rath also played very well with 6 goals. Goaltending has been a bit of a wildcard for Wilton, sometimes it has been good other times its been a large problem. If Wilton can beat Darien they will have to dominate faceoffs and really value possession.
Good to see that Ridgefield kept things competitive with Manhasset. Really just emphasizes that anyone can beat anyone this year if one team plays their best and the other team has an off day. This whole season has been a lesson in why comparing scorelines is a fools errand.

I watched my alma mater, Prep, play in NC the other day. Not sure if anyone was injured on the NC side, but I was surprised to see Prep at a level I haven't seen since 2007-08ish. I believe the final was 14-6.
It seems like Graham has the program headed in the right direction.

Re: Connecticut 2023
Just back from the Darien v Wilton game. Darien scored 3 in about 2 minutes to pull off the 9-8 win. Wilton had two careless turnovers trying to run out the clock and Darien did what Darien does, they struck quickly. One wilton player ran out of bounds on the sideline with the ball (no idea how that happens) and another was just 1 v 1 with a defender behind the cage and got the ball poked away. For a Sr led team, Wilton doesn't look like it knows how to close.
Overall, two evenly matched teams and the FCIAC and state playoffs are wide open. I"m more convinced Prep will run away with states after seeing this game today.

Prep up 13-5 on Cheshire with 5:45 to go, cruising. Cheshire goes nuts, outshoots them 15-0 rest of the game, wins 8 straight FO (10/11 in the 4th) and only a last second save lets Prep hold on 13-12. Suspect they would win the rematch more comfortably but very game effort by the Rams, coming off very tough, physical game vs Hand

How is Cheshire this year? They were a really strong program in the late 2000's. Thanks!pcowlax wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 7:26 am Prep up 13-5 on Cheshire with 5:45 to go, cruising. They actually have either the #1 or #2, depending on where you look, national player in the class of 24, Matt Jeffery. Personally I think that is a reach, he is extremely good but not best player in the country good. They have another guy at attack, Kurtz, commuted to UMass who is also a handful, alone with 5 or 6 other college commits. Their only other loss is by 1 to New Canaan. So, very good team and a fantastic effort but I think in a rematch Prep would win more comfortably. Rams will be a tough out in L though.

Re: Connecticut 2023
Finally watched the Wilton v Chaminade game last night. WOW. Wilton outplayed them most of the game. After a 50/50 first half, Liston dominated the X in the 2nd half and the Wilton defense was as aggressive as they have been all year. The offense seems to have found it's groove as well with multiple contributors...this isn't a team that it appears you can key on one or two players. What a distance they have come from earlier in the year.
FCIAC playoffs is going to be fun.
Prep still team to beat in states.

Any idea if the FCIAC games are live streaming today?

Not high school related but was down at CONNY tourney for awhile this morning in Madison. 75 teams, perfect weather, salt air off the ocean, grills going. Good times. The game is in a good place in the state despite the at times malign club influence.

At Hammonassett S.P. I assume? This was the ultimate site for the Daniel Hand HS Jamboree for many years.
