Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the @Olympics, observed "The most important thing in the Games is not winning, but taking part." But in this case, by not taking part, @IrelandLacrosse have won something worth more than any medal - the friendship & respect of their Iroquois peers.

Many thanks! I've checked IL, and it looks like between the USA, Canada and other various sporting bodies that the Iroquois are on their way.
Your comment about the Irish is beautiful. I'd add that they may have gained the deep respect of the lacrosse world.
I remember when Richie Moran helped found Team Ireland in the 1990's after he left Cornell. It's amazing how much the international game has grown.

Team Uganda always brings a tear.......great stuff.
The world wide growth has been amazing. How much of that growth is related to the organizations pushing for small ball events?
Ireland dropping out is cool, but would have preferred the US lacrosse community boycotting the event entirely, based on the exclusion. Where's Josh Sim's rant about that?

It looks like it's now official, and the Iroquois Nationals will be included in The World Games in Birmingham, AL in 2022.

Maybe its only me, but this whole thing is ridiculous. I am happy for the Iroquois but why should Ireland have to give up their spot? Why not invite nine teams? Or invite 24 teams, who cares? The worst part about it is US Lacrosse sold it's soul to the International Olympic Committee who is historically one of the most corrupt organizations in the world. This is all to play some hybrid 6 v 6 version of middle school gym class lacrosse, and no one is going to watch it. Very sad what they have allowed themselves to become, I don't see other sports bastardizing their game to be in the Olympics. I have been involved with my lacrosse my whole life and will watch zero minutes of this made for TV cost cutting version of the sport.

I have no idea why lacrosse fiddles with the game as much as it does. Even the PLL is a modified version of the game. I also don’t understand the infatuation with box lacrosse and the attempt to marry it with the field game. No other sport I can think of changes as much as lacrosse does.

New version I believe. The Natives could clean up with those rules and their stick skills. Are USA and Canada sure they want them in the Olympics competing under these rules?

New version and yeah, it is more closely related to box lacrosse than field. Except not nearly as rough as box. Two of the objectives when they were designing the game were "eliminate long sticks" and "limit collisions" or some such.
The scores from the trials were ridiculous given the 4 8:00 running time quarters.

Kudos to Ireland for making room for the Iroquois and... These are the 8 teams (below, in alphabetical order) that will be participating in the World Games:
Australia
Canada
Germany
Great Britain
Iroquois Nationals
Israel
Japan
United States
Seven of the eight teams are obvious selections to be one of the eight teams (including the Iroquois who earned a Bronze in 2018) except... Germany and Ireland (before Ireland bowed out). And Germany beat Ireland 14-5 in 2018. Again, kudos to Ireland for making room for the Iroquois and... Ireland was the obvious team to bow out.

I agree about the drama regarding the addition of a team. There were a number of ways that the World Games could have increased the number of teams invited. I do applaud the lacrosse community's standing by the Iroquois Nationals in an issue that was important to them and the game.

From the latest World Lacrosse (WL) Blue Skies report:
The World Games 2022
The World Games 2022 provides lacrosse with the best platform to exhibit the dynamic, fast and highly
skilled game of WL Sixes in front of a global audience. WL are working closely with The International World
Games Association and the Birmingham Organising Committee to ensure that WL Sixes is the very pinnacle
of elite sport at this event.

Karma is a b*tch.
In the 6x6 pinball format the Haudenosaunee have a much improved chance at a Gold medal as the format negates the traditional advantage the USA and Canada have in terms of numbers. Even more so than in a box format where they have been a Silver medalist multiple times to the Canucks. Their stick/scoring skills are hugely rewarded in this format and their lack of long pole defensive prowess and roster depth are likewise rendered pretty much moot.
If they get to the Olympics by 2028 they would also have an improved chance of winning GOLD there, too.
Perhaps The Creator will, indeed, have the last laugh.

Agreed. Which I prefer to the inevitable USA vs. Canada Championship Finals in the usual World Games format. i prefer the big field, 10 v. 10 format but in terms of a more entertaining tourney, I'm looking forward to this 6 v. 6. Plus, change is fun.
