In the past, I was intimidated by some of the regulars on these boards. Being a blue-collar high school graduate, I felt like some of the folks who took turns
trying to scold/shame me were so much more intelligent and well spoken than I was--and how could I possibly hold my own debating them? But over the years, it's become more and more apparent that these white-collar-degree-holding-college-grad folk are just as susceptible to childishness, petulantly wanting things their own way, faulty logic, deliberately twisting/misrepresenting, emotional outbursts, pettiness, jealousy--(not to mention being full of shidt), as anyone else. How well they write often cloaks their own character flaws--even as they point their finger at others.
With that in mind--it's interesting to consider, in the aftermath of the recent dustup, what exactly it was that provoked Seacoaster's weird, overwrought weigh-in. A little ribbing between posters about Notre Dame? That was it? In retrospect--that's all I could figure. But let's look at it again together, shall we?
Here's what Sleepdrifter and I exchanged:

The above was obviously back and forth ribbing between two posters outsurrounding their conflicting opinions on Notre Dame (which was initiated originally by Sleepdreamer, let the record show for the jury, your Honor)--to which I responded with:

How'd your Frauds from Nap City do in the ACC Tournament? What? They didn't even make the final?
Fans ribbing each other about their teams is as common in sports as cars and coffee in America. But you'd never know it from Seacoaster's guns a-blazin interjection that immediately followed:

Childish; literally, the sort of behavior I had to drum out of my kids in middle school. Can you just stop and recognize that you are part of a community, rather than a single person who has to have things their way. Bizarre in an adult.
He got
all that from my GIF post? Now
that's bizarre--and a good descriptor for the essence of what Seacoaster wrote. What triggered him? Did I personally insult Tidedrifter? What was my "childish" crime? He didn't like my GIF? (An original, by the way, like 95% of the GIF's I use [he said as he shamelessly patted himself on the back]). Apparently I didn't use it in a way that caressed his delicate sensibilities.
Childish? Can you just stop and recognize that you are part of a community? These coming from a poster who recently told another poster GFY? Yeah--okay.
Fans ribbing each other about a team's failures is as common in sports as get-rich-quick schemes in America. Seacoaster doesn't get it apparently. (Even Nana Seacoaster can miss the mark at times.) Not shocking though--coming from a guy who once tried scolding me about inappropriately using the word "stud" to describe great players--who still stuck to his guns after I showed him multiple examples of current and former woman athletes referring to other woman athletes as studs. Didn't matter--
he didn't find it appropriate. Great example of being out of touch, not to mention wanting things his own way.
I don't know how the largely petty and petulant blue blood Brahmins on here arrived at their worldview of what poster interactions should look like. I guess they breathe a loftier more privileged quality of air where ribbing another poster about their team is beneath them and they don't want it where they frequent. (Except if they do it on the Politics boards sans GIF's regarding another poster's political leanings--
then it's okay.) Translation: they want things their own way.
Hypocrisy in its purest form.
He might also have been alluding to another recent run-in where after multiple appeals, I'd had quite enough snipey pot shots from another poster and pushed back. Folks don't want me coming back strong at them? Then don't come on snotty and snipey and strong with me. (Where are all the voices chiding me for not fighting my own battles now?)
So--back to the original post by Slapdrummer: Though there was a personal insult from Sleepgrifter toward your Humble Narrator--did I fire back a personal insult in return? Nope. A GIF with a gloating response. Cue the outraged finger-wagging. Oh brother.
(Oh, just a little clarification for you, Attentiondrifter, on the time of post--the time stamp means nothing. The post could have been written days beforehand, saved as a final draft, and posted later in mere seconds with the touch of a button. So,
that little item wouldn't stand up in court.)
In the grand scheme of Fanlax--I'm not surprised by any of this. It's how it's been on these frequently petty, jealous boards since day one. Present an opinion about a team, coach, whatever, that doesn't fit in with groupthink? Personal insults are sure to follow. Don't like an opinion? Responding with a personal insult is appropriate. Don't like a GIF or how it's used? Responding with a personal insult is appropriate. Talk about childish and wanting things your own way...
