Nate Cohn of the NY Times Upshot has a very interesting piece about why this year's polls might have been wrong.

The most persuasive explanation to me is this:

The final election results were about the same as where the polls were at the beginning of 2020 before Covid hit -- consistent Biden lead but fairly narrow, especially in the swing states.

Biden's rise in the polls after Covid hit wasn't because Trump was losing ground. It was because Dems were more available and willing to answer the phone and talk to pollsters:

“The basic story is that after lockdown, Democrats just started taking surveys, because they were locked at home and didn’t have anything else to do,” said David Shor, a Democratic pollster who worked for the Obama campaign in 2012. “Nearly all of the national polling error can be explained by the post-Covid jump in response rates among Dems,” he said.


Sounds right to me. Covid didn't directly hurt Trump with Trump voters or with Dem voters (who were going to vote against him anyway). But Covid had some indirect impacts.

First, it threw off the polls. Second, it brought wide spread mail-in voting -- which Dems deployed successfully to get their vote out.

An international group invited by the Trump administration to observe the presidential election found no evidence to support the president's claims of fraud, it said in a report.

The Organization of American States sent 28 observers from 13 countries to watch elections in several states, including Georgia and Michigan, at all stages including early voting and on Election Day, as well as vote tabulation, at the invitation of the U.S. Department of State.

But noting that Trump had claimed he has only lost in those states because of "fraud," the organization wrote: "The OAS observers deployed in the battleground states of Michigan and Georgia did not witness any of the aforementioned irregularities."

Wait a second.

Donald Trump has every right to go to court and try to prove that the moon landings were faked and that there was a second shooter in Dallas.

If and when the courts decide whether or not the moon landings were faked and whether there was a second shooter on the grassy knoll, then we will proceed. And not one minute before. Because that is the American way!!

And if anyone tries to shut down those court cases, that proves that they are trying to cover something up!!

Calm down. They're still counting in 4 states. Recounts are automatic in some states. Canvassing, audits & legal challenges are routine.
It took 37 days in 2000. The Electors don't meet in their states until Dec 14. Use this as an opportunity to evaluate universal mail-in voting via unsolicited ballots & how they're collected, handled, & counted. It's the ultimate Civics lab experiment.

You need to read the resignation letter, and pay attention this time, OS. Clearly you didn't bother, or you wouldn't come back telling me about State recounts.

This is seriously dangerous stuff....and the EXACT thing you've been complaining about for four years: the Exec Branch using its power to weaponize the FBI , DoJ, etc. for political purposes.

I'll get excited/interested if/when something happens which disrupts the continued vote counting & prevents the states from certifying/submitting their counts, ...unless it's ordered by a court.

If no fraud is found, there will be greater confidence going forward in a system that is still new to much of the country.
