Kent Island (9-1) at Parkside (10-0)

Hereford (6-2) at Glenelg (9-1)

Towson (8-1) at C. Milton Wright (12-0)

Marriotts Ridge (9-1) at Urbana (10-0)

CLASS 4A

Severna Park (10-0) at Sherwood (11-0)

Bowie OR Northwestern at Catonsville (10-0)
Predictions:
Southern vs Fallston - Think Southern takes advantage of a really poor class much like they did back when the state format was still 2a/1a in the last year of it. The drop from 2A will probably put them in a good position to win a few championships in the next few years.

Glenelg v Kent Island - Throwback States Matchup! I think Glenelg is gonna win this game and retain the 2A championship. These two teams haven’t seen each other in a long time so it should definitely be a fun one seeing them matchup again. Don’t really know too much about the shore teams as much so I just guessed with Kent Island over Parkside.

Urbana v Towson - Urbana won’t be upset this year by a Howard county team. Both sets of twins for them seem to be clicking and it doesn’t seem like MR necessarily has the dogs to compete with them this year. Towson should be able to handle CMW but it should be close. Think Urbana wins the state championship pretty handily over Towson.

Severna Park v Catonsville - Don’t really need to explain SP cause they’re still SP after all. Catonsville should be able to breeze by Bowie. Wouldn’t be shocked if SP won their what seems like 10th state championship in a row but I’m gonna go with the shock upset and say Catonsville pulls it off. Ruppel is obviously the real deal in net and is gonna be the best goalie SP has seen this year. Think he goes off and makes 15+ saves to help give the Comets the state championship.

I'm going with Hereford and KI in the finals....some of the very best games in the former 3/2 happened in the regionals.

SP has won 9, along with Hereford.....if they win this year, call is 5 in a row for SP. Hereford's 6 in a row will be tough to top.

Fallston should win in the 1a. How they got in that bracket is a mystery. But they always seem to win when they get bumped down.
Don't know much about Urbana, but Towson looked good the other night against CMW. Although CMW's choice to sit back in a zone and let Towson pick them apart was odd.
Going with KI over Hereford. I feel like Hereford has kind of punched above their weight class so far this year and are due for a letdown. But it's been an odd "return from covid" year, so you never know.
I think SP/Catonsville will be a great game to watch. Catonsville has been the talk of Baltimore county while SP is often the class of the AA publics. Just a question if SP has enough left in the tank or if they lost too many players to Spalding.

Congrats to Urbana. Was rooting for Coach B and the Towson team, but competing in a one goal game late in the 4th is just fun.

Severna Park handily wins 4a 11-3 over Catonsville.

Hearing some rumblings out of Howard County about an ineligible player on one of the state champion teams. Anyone know what is up?

Interesting.
If the kid touched field, it’s an issue. Should be a forfeit.
If he was just on the sidelines, seems like a bit of a stretch.

Wonder what ineligible means in this sense....
Like just moved but has not participated in 5 practices before a contest? or ??

A schools division is based on the number of students.

Yes, and there is wiggle as it is based upon grades 9-11 and is only adjusted every even year. I think Fallston was lucky to fall where they did.
Now that they moved back to the full 1-4 classification, Fallston will likely only win when they are bumped down to 1a. Not sure they have the horses they once used to. Looking at the out years and with the FLC struggles, the pipleline simply isn't what it once was. They are gonna need Mull to make the most of what talent does stick around, even to win at the 1a level.

My contact in HoCo said the possibility of "ineligible" player is based on exceeding the number of years playing in high school. But, each county has different nuances of the rule so it might fall under that category in the perspective county. However, for the states, their should be a general rule of thumb so that some counties do not have advantages over others. It sure sounds like an interesting case, and the HoCo school is investigating. Btw, the player is a significant part of the team.

Looks like the MPSSAA is not going to pursue the 5th year player from the winning school. He had enough credits to graduate in 2020 but decided to hold back after Covid canceled season and return for his 5th year, essentially playing 5 years of high school lacrosse. He took extra credits for college rather than pay college tuition. It's in writing and common knowledge on the kid's recruiting page on Inside Lacrosse. The loop hole being used? Evidently, the county he plays in allows this since he did not play in any games in '20, where as most, if not all, counties would not allow it once the player steps on practice field (which was held for two weeks prior to the season canceled). I still does not seem right or sit well for a level playing field in the state playoffs, but that is the inconsistency of the MPSSAA.

Tough break for the schools who had to play this team throughout the season and state playoffs.

Now a precedent has been set, similar to private school hold backs, for public school kids. I would imagine we may see more of this in the publics moving forward. Hard to get the genie back in the bottle now.

Is it not slightly different, or at least could be agreed to be different, that the entire season was canceled unrelated to the player's or team's decision to not play? Surely (or at least hopefully!!) that's a one-off event unlikely to be repeated.
