Interesting little tidbit about judging by Ideology for District and SC Justices.... Chuck Shumer got the ball rolling on this in the NYT Op piece he wrote. One can argue it screwed things up or balanced the tables.
When this took place, competence and character coupled with the now recently added "in your face" judging by Ideology, it has created the nomination event more of a of political turd storm than it really need/should be, depending on your affiliation I suppose. I found this paper Judicial Selection: Ideology versus Character quite interesting and frankly, I do not know why.
I love this place, you can learn so much.

Cause we're doing SO much better with the "Lock Her Up", "Grab 'Em By the wimp" minority crowd running the show. The 19th century concept "tyranny of the majority" seems more relevant than ever. When one considers the "resistance" and/or "blue wave," or the condition of the Democrat Party for that matter, the EC is indispensable.

C&S, good to see you here. I am a Democrat and I'm not "foaming at the mouth" to impeach him. I am disappointed in the GOP for jamming through a guy that certainly appeared -- based on his own conduct and words -- to be a partisan hack. There were plenty of better conservatives to hang their shingle on the Court.
Bandito, don't you just lOVE the Sept 28 budget extension signing by tRump ? $7 billion of substance abuse/addiction treatment. Sure sounds like a pinko commie socialist group hug to me. You love facts. Is this NOT a fact?

LOL. You must have failed economics. What you describe are public goods and they are created due to market failures in a private economy so you have some government involvement and taxes to help pay for these things. This is called a mixed economy. Dis is right. The definition of socialism---where the people own and manage the means of production or service provider----hasn't changed. Republicans just don't want to hear it.
So they make fun of Ocascio Cortez for being a socialist, right before they send in their taxes to pay for all those public schools and roads, and libraries, and parks, and on and on and on.
We can have 100% private roads. We chose not to. We chose socialism instead.
We can have 100% private schools. We chose not to. We chose socialism instead. Hello UVa!
We can have our farmers operate in the free market with zero assistance from the Federal government. Nope. We chose socialism. And the checks we send to them get bigger with each passing year.
Why do we have public parks if socialism is so bad?
Or why is everyone in my facebook feed that rails against socialism a freaking State University graduate? I desperately want to demand that they give me my tax dollars back if they think socialism is so bad. Go to a private school if you think socialism sucks. Or give me my tax money back. Pick one! I don't care which!

There's no such thing as a market failure in capitalism. Try and name one. When there is a demand for goods and services, the market provides them. Period. No exceptions.Bandito wrote:LOL. What you are advocating for here is for the government to provide crap that "citizens don't feel like paying for individually". That's not a "market failure". That's Americans who don't want to pay for what they get. Want an education? Get a job and pay for it. Want health care? Get a job and pay for it.
You don't want to pay the fair market value for things. So you run to the government, make them tax other people, and use their money to buy something you want, but can't afford. You're a socialist. The worst kind, actually. You take my money for crap you want, and then act like you paid for it yourself.

I actually had a “conservative” tell me that Capitalism needs government subsidizes or intervention every now and then to provide balance. He said the definition of a free market is different now. I told him he is liberal. Too stupid to realize that because you like Trump, it doesn’t make you conservative. I would have more respect for the guy if he were just honest and said his philosophy has changed.a fan wrote:There's no such thing as a market failure in capitalism. Try and name one. If you (as a white male) get burned for using the N word or the B word and try to justify that using this argument, you are just an idiot. And you deserve the derisive scorn you get as a racist and/or misogynist.

Capitalism, even in its purest of form has market failures. So by my count, you need to brush up on your history and economics. “NY Times find 7 people who heard about the Ramirez incident years before. (and an additional sexual event) But per WH instructions, and Senate R insistence, the FBI interviewed none of them or 18 other witnesses. The renewed background investigation was a total con job.” — former Fed Harry Litman.
"During his Senate testimony, Brett Kavanaugh said that if the incident Deborah Ramirez described had occurred, it would have been 'the talk of campus,'" write @rpogrebin and @katekelly. "Our reporting suggests that it was."
"A classmate, Max Stier, saw Mr. Kavanaugh with his pants down at a different drunken dorm party, where friends pushed his penis into the hand of a female student. Mr. Stier ... notified senators and the F.B.I. ... but the F.B.I. did not investigate."
This is not the party where he shoved his junk in a woman’s face. Old Boofer lied his ass off to Congress and the FBI let him. He needs to go. This stain won’t ever wash off.

Re: SCOTUS
If Kavanaugh lied to the Senate, should he be removed from office? Yes or No.
Re: SCOTUS
Certainly a lot more than the “lack of candor” so strictly applied in the McCabe case.
“I sat through those hearings. Brett Kavanaugh lied to the U.S. Senate and most importantly to the American people. He was put on the Court through a sham process and his place on the Court is an insult to the pursuit of truth and justice. He must be impeached.”
... Kamala Harris

Re: SCOTUS
Senator Collins, are you there?
"For the GOP, nothing will be allowed to derail its effort to create a generation-long conservative majority on the court. And that helps to explain why Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh was railroaded through his confirmation hearings last year after what amounted to a pretend inquiry into the various charges against him.
The costs of this approach were underscored this weekend by a New York Times report that offers new corroboration for charges by Deborah Ramirez that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her when both were undergraduates at Yale. In denying the charge, Kavanaugh told the Senate that had it been true, the incident would have been “the talk of the campus.” Times reporters Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly — drawing on their new book, “The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation” — write tellingly: “Our reporting suggests that it was.”
More than that, they report on an entirely separate incident involving Kavanaugh that Max Stier, a classmate of Ramirez’s, brought to the attention of the Senate and the FBI at the time of the hearings. It involved, they write, “a different drunken dorm party” where, according to the allegation, Kavanaugh had a different inappropriate encounter with a female student. Stier is president of the thoroughly bipartisan and widely respected Partnership for Public Service. From my experience, he is the last person who would want to get into the middle of an ideological fight — unless his conscience required him to.
Here is the institutionally devastating part of their story: Ramirez’s legal team gave the FBI a list of “at least 25 individuals who may have had corroborating evidence” of her story. The bureau, the authors report, “interviewed none of them.” Nor did the FBI look into Stier’s account."

I think that Kav's wife -- the doleful looking creature sitting behind his angry face during the Senate hearings about Squi -- was a long-time functionary of W's when he was Governor and in the Bush White House, a Texan and friend of the Bush family. W had no choice but to get on board.
