Times change. Everyone played Hero's and you knew it was summer when you saw a Hero's t shirt. I'm saddened to read this but thanks for the link.Sting The Corner wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2019 11:52 pm Not a Terps post, but relevant to many who grew up playing in/around Southern MD.

Indeed. To be clear, in the '70's Hero's brought together the top players from Anne Arundel County, but also the top players from the MSA (the northern schools from the now MIAA).Sativa Specialist wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2019 8:32 amTimes change. The sport has changed dramatically. In those days we signed up to play and were drafted onto teams and given a jersey, but it was basically organized pick-up games played in the evening after your summer job. Very little coaching, if any really. The players figured out the plays, and even made sure everyone got on the field for their runs. There probably were some college coaches watching, but I don't recall ever being conscious of any.

Re: Maryland 2019
Looks about right, it might have been nice to see Puglise as an HM ssdm.
Wisnauskas did score a lot of points, but the guys on the 3rd team were pretty good.

UVA's win makes me sick
Re: Maryland 2019
look anyone could have won that game. Virginia got lucky- there were goals by both that should not have been goals - they BEAT Duke today and no one can take that away from them. Regardless, I do think Tiffany was clearly the right hire.

As a Loyola fan, I feel your pain. I really wanted to dance this weekend. Maryland was jobbed and there’s no two ways about it. Rasheed wants to make equivalent the Bernhardt goal but there’s no comparison, either via the time left in the game or the egregious blown call.
UVA is somehow finding a way to get by, and who knows they just might get there Monday. Rode, whom Loyola shelled, has gotten better every game. And UVA’s offense certainly has some power.

Re: Maryland 2019
Wow, I see it exactly as you did. Goal. Dolan flat misses it.
I thought I saw the same thing happen later in the game as well; tight net bounce.
But the one at the end was a pipe.
Other than a very few fans on FL, the UMD fans have handled a very unfortunate situation the way Tillman and the players did, with class.
UMD should be proud of its coach and team.
But, so too, should UVA fans love the heart of their team, the never say die attitude.
Re: Maryland 2019
no doubt about it - all class from MD crowd - and I apologize for some of my comments - we've (Hoos) just sucked for so long and I know how hard the Hoos have worked with a new coach, a new system and a new culture - so when I see folks say they are "lucky" or say they haven't earned it, I get too defensive.
Re: Maryland 2019
It is not a goal at 8:25. I am not sure what you are seeing. The ball hits the side of his head ( plastic part ) and bounces at a odd angle, then hits his helmet and bounces out. The ball is in front of him at one point. Impossible to hit net and bounce there. Clearly not a goal.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 7:51 pmWow, I see it exactly as you did. Goal. Not one player thought it was a goal on field.
Va free goal still wasnt why they won. Tillman and his coaching is why VA won. Tillman let them storm their way back into game. The Testudo Times and comments feel the same way. Tillman lost the game with his coaching decisions in 4th quarter . Watch with 5 minutes to go, MD gets the ball and goes Full stall ball and doesnt even try to get a shot off. VA was pressing MD and was out of position several times that MD could have scored. That one goal would have been all they needed to ice it. Obviously players were told to run full 80 seconds off and throw in corner. Not very good coaching.

Re: Maryland 2019
So was Danowski's coaching the reason why Duke lost? I mean, they had a 4 goal lead and were up 2 with the ball at midfield and 85 seconds left. And that 2 goal lead was only because they got a miracle last second bouncer after milking the clock.Chuckman wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 9:36 am

So that's a lot of awful coaching against UVA....or maybe it's pretty damn tough to shut them down for 60 minutes? Hoos seem to have proven to be at their best when their great athletes are in full court press mode. Coaching against them isn't as easy as you probably think.
Re: Maryland 2019
The MD game was different than the UVA game. The Terps had their last shot of the game with 10 minutes left, and that was by design. The possession Chuckman is talking about is when the Terps forced a UVA turnover and had a full 80 seconds with the ball in their zone with 6 minutes left. Tillman had Kyle Long take the ball in the far corner with a SSDM on him. Long toyed with him for the full 80 seconds. Had him beat 3 times and pulled the ball back out. No slides. All adjacents shut off. No help. The Terps were up 4 at that point. The next time they got the ball was with 1:30 remaining and Tom O'Connell couldn't move the ball on a clear, which led to the turnover that Kraus then "cashed in" with his pipe goal. Up until 6 minutes remaining in the game, Tillman had employed a masterful game plan that his players executed at a high level. UVA was completely bogged down on offense, and the Terps limited most of their transition. Then Tillman forgoes the exact game plan and execution that got the Terps up 4 goals with 6 minutes left. That's not what happened in the UVA game by any stretch. Tillman also has a history of doing this, and he'd done it several times during the season where teams almost came back from similar deficits.keno in reno wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 10:57 amSo was Danowski's coaching the reason why Duke lost? Definitely give UVA all of the credit for not giving up. Most teams would have packed it up with 6 minutes to go. They didn't.

Re: Maryland 2019
I fully understand your point on the Long play (it wasn't 6 minutes though, it was under 4 which is a big difference). That was a mistake, but it was one time, and they did not shut it down before that. The players had plenty of chances to make a single play after that, including winning a face off, making a save, a clear or causing a turnover. Just like all Duke had to do was not throw a careless inbounds pass.Wheels wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 11:41 amThe MD game was different than the UVA game. UVA has done this like 5 times this season, including yesterday. That's sort of a pattern. Like their basketball team, they are getting extremely lucky, but also like their basketball team they are pretty darn good too. You can choose to blame Tillman and not blame Danowski, but there's pretty strong evidence that UVA is just great at end of game pandemonium.

Big game for Terp fans today.
No not that one. What Terp fan could really care about Yale or UVa?
Terp recruits, Logan McNaney and Dawson Wynne, are playing for Salisbury School tonight in Geico Lacrosse Nationals at Catholic University at 8:30 pm on ESPNU (first game is Bullis vs The Hill)

Re: Maryland 2019
Seeing UVA's athletes just blow by Yale's players makes me feel a little bit better about the future of the Terps' program. Tillman's been recruiting a lot of athletes. UVA didn't run past many Terps.
Better FOGO play will cure a lot of what sunk the Terps in the quarters. If Calderone plays like LaSalla with Shockey being a good pairing, we're going to be really hard to beat next year.

Re: Maryland 2019
Terps have to find a replacement Curtis Corley. Defense wasn't too strong this Spring. The Terps need to handle losing face-offs better.

Re: Maryland 2019
Tillman went from a game plan that was working to a stall to finish the game . The stall is on him. Not sure how hard that is to see. Maryland had everything going their way up until little over 5 minutes to go when Tillman decided to have Long run like a player/team attempting to hold on to a win instead of a team attempting to win. Gave VA the momentum back and the game. That is on Tillman.keno in reno wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 10:57 amSo was Danowski's coaching the reason why Duke lost? MD was only up by 4 goals??? Way to much time to even attempt that. Changed the complexion of the game.
