Always love the break down and perspective you give and in agreement with the majority of your analysis. When I see ALL CONFERENCE awards I weight everything on Conference play.
Some schools can craft non league schedules to pile up wins/stats against sub par and lackluster opponents and some teams like Scranton and Elizabethtown play tough Non Con opponents to prepare for league play.
When breaking down Offensive Player of the year, and you compare Lorrence to Langen, the formers numbers don't add up to MVP. Goal scorer yes.... but MVP#s are questionable when you break it down.
Take all games for example:
Lorrence. 55G 6A 61pts 151shots
Langen. 25G 28A. 53 pts. Only 69 shots
They both had almost identical sh% and SOG% in all game stats. Langen sat 1 full game with an injury and was used for a couple games sparingly to rest for Conference play. Lorrence Put up an amazing 55G but only 6 A for means he is looking off open men.
Numbers get Crazy when you look at Conference Only stats .... which a "Conference MVP Award" in most voting circles should carry the weight.
Conference Game stats
Lorrence. 33G. 5A. 38pts on 86 shots
Langen. 22G. 19A 41pts. On 46 shots
Incredibly Langen put up more points on about 1/2 the shots that Lorrence took. He also had a league Leading 4.56 Ppg. In Conference play. To Lorrence at 4.22 ppg.
But the difference in shooting percentage was dramatic. Lorrence with a commendable .384 and Langen .478 which is a Madden like number If you created a player in a video game....
Also looking at game by game stats Langen sat the 2nd half of many blowouts so didn't feast off the lesser opponents. Lorrence logged way more 2nd half minutes.
They are 2 completely different styles of player. 1 is playing for Goals and taking unlimited shots and the other puts up league leading stats while playing to make others around him better.
Lorrennce is in top 3 in shots taken across the entire league and Langen isn't even in top 10 showing he does his damage far more efficiently.
So if Voting on "non league stats" you go with Lorrence if you can ignore the huge number of shots it took him to get them.
If Voting on best "Conference stats" then is skews to Langen.....
In Head to Head match up this past weekend Lorrence 1 G. Langen 3 Assists in a game that should have been won by Etown but Susquehanna capitalized on a huge coaching error at the end of the game. For whatever reason it appears he had a freshman in the game and Didn't use a time out to preserve a lead with 1 minute left.... Freshman took a shot with no back up because team was in a keep it wide timekilling formation.... you can't make this stuff up.
Last item I'd add....
Joel Maragato will certainly be in the discussion for defensive player of the year as well. Moved from LSM to Close D and has been the biggest eraser in the league. Lorrence had 0 goals Head to head vs Maragato in on ball matchups he did have a great goal on a broken play after a oenalty released though. Similarly Maragato has drawn cover 1 on every teams offensive stud and played amazing.
Looking forward to seeing how these Coaches vote.
It's going to be a crazy ride in semis this year.
