Annoying Trendy Sayings

I was never a big fan of Have a nice day, but how did we get upgraded to Have a great day? What, nice isn't enough anymore? We've been hyped up to great. I'm sure if George Carlin was still with us, he would have something to say about it.

​Another one that goes up my tail pipe sideways these days is ending sentences with my friend. Who thought it was a good idea to start this blithe familiarity?

In any event, I detest both.

The right wing with its constant labelling and categorizations of anyone or anything that disagrees with them always comes up with trendy crap such as,
"politically correct", "woke", "cancel culture", "snow flake", and other forms of b___s____t. This despite the fact that nobody is more conformist and intolerant they those buffoons are. Then when those terms are fired right back at them, they cry and whine as if their sorry asses were on fire.

Gotta admit that my biggest laugh was when they labelled themselves by referring to their ilk as "tea baggers". When folks turned that term around because of its true implications those right wingers suddenly cried about how everybody else is so prejudiced and that the entire world hates them. I'm still laughing at those jackasses for being such A holes!

Of course I remember Carlin. He would be absoutely disgusted with both parties, especially the left, if he was still alive today. That wasn't my point. Not every topic of discussion on this site has to be turned political. You may not even realize that you are doing it.

Lighten up, pal. If you watch the tape you'd see him making a racialist reference towards the end when the video is cut off. In any case, the references made above are "trendy sayings" and highly annoying. The OP may not have intended to include political references but he did not indicate that he closed the door to them. Mebbe we can shift this to Hamsterdam ...

Interesting how you look at things differently when you get older.
One of my favorite Carlin routines was "stuff".
Obviously the language was not the same, but is the substance all that different from a lecture you might have received from the nuns about materialism in the old days?

His most common theme was 'question authority'.
When I was young and he was most popular, much of authority was on the right, so his advice sounded leftist.
Now that most authority is on the left, he sounds like a right-winger.

Another trend I've noticed is the pervasive use of the word brother. More of that instant familiarity thing I alluded to earlier.

Sure, brother. Anything you need, brother. How's it going, brother?

Reminds me fondly of my actual brother who was a union electrician for most of his working life. International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers so naturally union members would often refer to each other as, and address each other as, brother. My brother always bristled at it. "I ain'tcha brother." He'd say. Too funny when I think back on it. Took a lot of chutzpah. But that was my brother. Wasn't afraid of anybody though he was not a pugilist by any stretch. Even though I don't like being instantly referred to as brother either, I doubt I would have the salt to say it, even though I would love to one of these days.

In the ghetto we've used the term since time immemorial and still do. In fact, my dad had been a sailor (as I've mentioned multiple times) and he would address perfect strangers as "Johnny" when trying to get their attention ~ this term is the maritime equivalent of brother. Strangely, the term sister is no longer used in the ghetto. I cannot explain why one old term is still ok while the other is not.

This is another well-wish I find irritating. Many accidents happen when folks are taking great care to be safe but others around them aren't.

That's what we former (or current) Feds go through every day. I put in 12 years of hard work ferreting out tax cheats and giving free tax advice to low income people in public whether at volunteer gatherings or online. I believe that mebbe once someone said 'Thank you for your service'. Nobody gets disrespected nor gets more animosity directed towards them than do Feds.
