He was the king of inverting his middies and stubbornly sticking to that system despite scoring 5-6 goals a game--even when he had loads of talent at Maryland. Not a fan of his O strategy, but Amplo was sort of left in a bind when Phipps left late in the cycle. I thought after the Hop win that the Mids were playing looser and extending the defense effectively. Navy has some guys that can real snipe, they don't need to force it inside and try to get layups every possession.
I do not disagree WRT to Cottle or how Amplo was hung out to dry in the 11th hour; agree completely.

I also know when Cottle was coaching for a local Annapolis Club team, alongside others, those teams' offenses were not predominantly what he did while at UMD.

no emotional tie here , saw last nights game , may want to consider putting the QB on off midfield to get him more involved

Offense with hawks was run the offense though the head coach’s son. Maybe they should try that at Navy now.

On to Holy Cross. If the pattern continues, Navy will rebound with a solid performance and win handily.

Good Second Half by Navy against Holy Cross. I still think, though, that JL might surprise once a few more of the players are his.

I don’t think so. They aren’t good. Don’t think it matters who they hired.

Wait and see. Maybe JL will start winning a lot more in future years. Don't forget that the program was winning several more games between 2015 and 2020. They finished 7-7 in 2019 and were 4-3 in the Covid-shortened 2020 season.

I hope that even the people who are usually negative will give Coach Joe Amplo and Navy kudos on a huge win over Colgate today! Wow, what an intense last minute, too!

A gritty and important win. Well done. Daly was huge today. What was the issue with Colgate's ride? We seemed flummoxed and unable to adjust. 24's penalty after his late goal was a near killer. We dodged a bullet.

Game (saving) changing adjustment was moving 10 behind and 24 out on the wing, the ball flowed so much faster.

Maybe the coaches read this forum…😉

It's the 10 man ride. Bring goalie out of cage to cover an attackman. Push the extra pole up near the midfield line. Same principle as the neutral zone trap in hockey. More & more PL teams are using it. Bucknell used to be the only one. BU, Lehigh & Colgate have all followed. It's risky but effective if practiced a lot & you have an athletic goalie.

Should be able to get a win. Lafayette essentially has the same team as last year, and we beat them. And this year we are even more talented. Although the trip to Lafayette is never as easy as you think.

Last week, what did the Colgate defender say to Arline that prompted the response that drew an unsportsmanlike penalty ?

In his weekly podcast, Bill Wagner said X was " baited into it by an offensive comment...totally inappropriate " by the Colgate defender.

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a ... 1702073155

This is from Wagner's game report :
https://www.capitalgazette.com/2024/03/ ... e-colgate/

"....I kind of have an idea of exactly what was said and I’ll just keep it at that,” Amplo said...

Amplo was extremely angry and could be seen screaming at a Colgate assistant upon completion of the handshake line. He then had a brief heated discussion with Colgate coach Matt Karweck before the two embraced and went their separate ways.

Take the win and move on. Lafayette's record may not show it, but they are improved. Wow, two-consecutive games with nail-biting moments at the end!

The good news -- neither Army nor Loyola appear to employ a 10 man ride. :?

Need quick outlet passes. Let the goalie pass it upfield.
We're giving the 10 man ride teams too much time to set up between the restraining lines.

Key observation, old salt.

Getting pretty excited for the matchup against Army, who'da thunk that Navy would be coming in tied for first place and Army would have taken two league losses vs. BU and Colgate? Army I'm sure will be stung by the Colgate loss and come out loaded for bear, and there will be a big crowd at Michie. But the Mids have risen to the occasion before this year. Hoping for a great game (or to be honest a boring game that Navy wins!).
