Notre Dame 2024
Re: Notre Dame 2024
Weird that the pretty boys of ND would score 19 against Michigan's big bad gorillas while having only one man up at home (went 1-1) while UM had seven man ups (2-7)

Conroy is going to regret that comment.
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

Re: Notre Dame 2024
Those Big Bad gorillas are probably great at hitting dodgers, but might want to work on not getting lost off ball The Kavanaghs and Jake Taylor caught the Michigan defenders napping off ball all game Loved seeing Arlotta that packed yet again. Guess that's the benefit of unusually warm weather in South Bend this early spring and being the defending national champions. Even during the Matt Kavanagh days I don't remember the Berm even being occupied for out of conference games. Midwest lacrosse is growing!
Real excited to see the game against Syracuse in two weeks. Can Joey Spallina and the Orange offense produce against Liam Entenmann and the Irish defense? While Will Lynch has done well this year, I think Syracuse could have an advantage at the faceoff dot. We saw how that kept Michigan in the game early, I think that will be key to the game. If the Irish can keep it around 50/50 there they should win.
Re: Notre Dame 2024
That was embarrassing. ND just out-worked Michigan. Their defense is just lost at times. So many needless slides that just create opportunities for the offense. Conry maybe better off just taking his comments to heart and running some straight man. They are so bad off ball and decision making. Its more about Gorilla minds, than Gorilla size.azim21 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:27 amThose Big Bad gorillas are probably great at hitting dodgers, but might want to work on not getting lost off ball The Kavanaghs and Jake Taylor caught the Michigan defenders napping off ball all game Loved seeing Arlotta that packed yet again. Re: Notre Dame 2024
Yeah the two man game defense was atrocious. Virginia did the same thing earlier in the year to the wolverines so didn't surprise me, but wow how many times did Pat Kavanagh get open with his hands free coming up towards GLE? Seems like you'd rather have two guys play him off a pick than neither. Offensively I liked the looks Michigan created, but Entenmann is just playing at an unreal level right now.coda wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:30 amThat was embarrassing. ND just out-worked Michigan. Re: Notre Dame 2024
Entemann was on for that game, which pretty much ended the upset chances. Honestly, I thought the difference was culture. Michigan must have given up 5-6 goals on GBs. ND is arguable the best team off the carpet in lacrosse, but if you want a chance to beat them you have to match their energy level. Michigan looked lethargic most of that game.azim21 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:59 amYeah the two man game defense was atrocious. Re: Notre Dame 2024
I agree. Maybe I've just gotten used to watching them play so it's expected, but when Michigan would force a ball out of a stick or knock down a pass, the 50/50 GB would always end up in Notre Dame's stick. They're really good at that and those extra possessions can result in a lot of goals as you mentioned. And that's not even bringing up the forced turnovers on the ride (another Irish staple). I feel like such a homer when I bring it up but taking my HS team to the game this weekend I always try to point out the little things like that they do so well. Hard to to get my high school guys to play with that same effort and intensity thoughcoda wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 11:03 amEntemann was on for that game, which pretty much ended the upset chances. Coaches love ND. Their effort is always high level. Speaks to their culture. I was selling them repeating prior to the year, but this team looks better. Faceoffs are better. The offense is no longer the Kavanaugh show. ND has always had good middies, but now they are all contributing to the offense.azim21 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 11:34 amI agree. Re: Notre Dame 2024
I think they do look better than last season, but so does UVA and Duke. I think it's between those 3 just like last year, but wouldn't be shocked if a 4th team emerges come May (JHU, PSU, or Army probably). But I do love how team oriented they are. Sure they have star power, but like you said the offense isn't soley focused on the Kavanaghs. I think that, as well as improved face off play will give them their best shot to repeat.stupefied wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 5:28 pm

Will be interesting to see who they have cover Shellenberger and O'Neill. The freshman Shawn Light covered Erksa and Boehm. Will he be who they have cover who I believe are the two best in college lacrosse right now? That's a tough ask for the kid. Chris Fake shut down O'Neill in both games they played last year but can't imagine that'll happen again. Man ACC conference play can't come soon enough!
Re: Notre Dame 2024
Duke offense is really good. Zawaada has transformed that. You could argue he has been the best player on the team for them. His passing makes it really hard to focus on anyone. He is tied for the lead in pts for Duke with Oneill and taken 44 less shots. I know it sounds crazy, but there is an argument that you want your best pole on Zawaada and let ONeill do his 1 on 1 thing (that is where Duke bogged down last year). Their defense has been a bit up and down.azim21 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 11:58 amI think they do look better than last season, but so does UVA and Duke. Nice write-up on Jordan Faison and his younger brother, Dylan.
Dylan Faison is the #1 2026. He just commited to ND football/lacrosse. Nice loophole.
#1 2024 - Matt Jeffery will also be playing football and lacrosse at Notre Dame. On top of Faison already being there, ND is getting some big-time athletes.

Re: Notre Dame 2024
Not only are they getting some big time athletes, but if they are on football scholarship theoretically that should make it easier for the Irish to have an even deeper roster right? I'm not exactly sure how most teams divvy up scholarships. I've heard from D2 coaches I know that most of their scholarship money goes to goalies and faceoff specialists, but not sure how it works for Division 1. If it does free up some scholarship money for shorties though, that's a big win for the Irish if those 2 incoming players are as impactful as Jordan Faison has been thus far.GaitsRightHand wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 11:25 am https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/ ... easy/62886

Re: Notre Dame 2024
I have no inside information, but I read that as soon as Jordan Faison played a single down last fall, his (I assume partial) lax scholarship was terminated and he was given a full-ride football scholarship.
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
Re: Notre Dame 2024
I thought he was given a full-ride football scholarship after he was the only player on that pathetic offense they had last year to score a TD against Louisville. It'll be interesting to see what kind of stats he can put up this upcoming year. I'm sure he'll be a contributor in that slot receiver spot, but ND got some nice transfers and incoming freshman for their receivers position. Just know I'll be keeping my fingers crossed every Saturday this fall hoping he doesn't get hurt.44WeWantMore wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 12:27 pm I have no inside information, but I read that as soon as Jordan Faison played a single down last fall, his (I assume partial) lax scholarship was terminated and he was given a full-ride football scholarship.
Re: Notre Dame 2024
believe that's still the rule. if you're a "counter", meaning you receive ath scholly money, then if you're on the football teeam vis-a-vis participating in games + another sport it has to go as football scholarship (limit 85 full scholarships). next is basketball except for football. to prevent stashing extra schollys for the revenues.44WeWantMore wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 12:27 pm I have no inside information, but I read that as soon as Jordan Faison played a single down last fall, his (I assume partial) lax scholarship was terminated and he was given a full-ride football scholarship.

Liam Entenmann’s one headed save received the top play on Sportscenters Top 10.

Re: Notre Dame 2024
Irish played sloppy for stretches, including most of the second half. Continued to try to jam it in to Taylor and other mids inside when it was clear Cuse was set on taking that away. 1st and 2nd mids were absolutely abusing Cuse’s SSDM’s in the first half, not sure why they got away from that in the second.
This is the deepest O in the country to my eye with Cornell not far behind. Play clean and there’s no reason they shouldn’t be playing in late May again.
