But seriously, why is this taking so long? The 'cac finally has fall ball and Colby decides to not hire coach throughout the entire off season....
It looks like they added former Bates Head Coach Peter Lasagna to the coaching staff in a volunteer role probably for this period when they don't officially have a head coach. They have an assistant head coach that has been there for awhile. I would think an "assistant head coach" gets the job when it opens, but the length of time it has taken makes it look like they are interviewing outside candidates.
Lasagna was on staff last year.

Lasagna was an assistant last year. If they were going to hire the other assistant then this should have been announced long ago. My gut tells me they tried to swing for the fences (again) and once again did not attract the studs they were expecting. Just find the right person that wants to be in Waterville and at Colby, not the splashy name from Bigtime X program.

Why would he make this move? Career at the highest level to go to Colby..? I wish him and the White Mules luck. Definitely the big name hire that Colby was looking for.

1.I do not know Bernhardts personal life is he married?(is his wife from the North East?) None of my business but just a thought of why.
2. I think you will start seeing this as a trend (top D1 asst to high academic d3) comparable salaries, better quality of life balance, relatively easy to recruit good talent at these high academics.

Will he elevate the program to the top of the NESCAC? Not sure, but the name is flashy and Colby is taking a swing so good for them. Bernhardt is used to preparing against the best in the country and the NESCAC most certainly has a collection of high level coaches.

I predict 5-6 wins in year 1

Salary at UVM was 77k...must be a significant amount more to want to move away from Burly too Waterville, even despite all of the development in downtown

We have to slow down with the narrative about moves being made based off of $$$.

If the fit was great for him and his family, why not make the move and be a head coach in the top conference in the country in DIII. That pool of DI head jobs isn't getting any bigger anytime soon.

I agree, great hire, great move. Ever been to Waterville?? Quality of life is the new theme for coaches and I applaud those who do it.

Per the press release from Maryland announcing Bernhardt departure

“I am very excited for Jake and his family," head coach John Tillman said. "They are really looking forward to returning to the New England area and being closer to family. “

To me it sounds like the wife is from NE and she would like to be closer to them. This happens all the time

Yup, his s/o has ties to the 207. School system in the Kennebec county is pretty rough compared to Burly which is top in VT. Wonder where they'll end up.
