Re: Lacrosse Analytics
Curious, and pardon me if I missed a discussion already. Has there been any noticed correlation between the 80 second clock and any noticeable changes in standardized stats, that would lead us to believe a team or player is performing better or worse than in years past. For instance, we may be critiquing a goalie for not saving as many shots, but yet, they are seeing more shots, and many are intentionally added depth to their pockets.
For instance:
1. Are goalie saves slipping because they may be seeing more shots?
2. Are player points on the rise due to a green light to shoot sooner and play stall ball?
3. Are T/O's averaging higher/team?

A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Re: Lacrosse Analytics
If you are not loving the reliance on RPI, you might like SOR better.
I think of SOR as a version of RPI that cares whether you won the game or not. The system looks at your schedule, calculates how hard it was, then judges your resume based on how many wins you were able to secure against that schedule.
I feel like a lot of the discussion around RPI has been framed around the idea that a ranking system must choose between valuing strength of schedule or valuing actual results. There will always be a trade-off there. I would argue that SOR manages that trade-off in a more balanced and transparent way.
