Looks like it is Peach Belt for 2021
“UAH, Lander University, the University of Montevallo and Shorter University. Flagler College and Young Harris College will join the following year“
I think it makes sense.
UAH Men's LAX
Re: UAH Men's LAX
Interesting article, as it says that getting to six teams in 2022 gives the PBC an automatic qualifier - which currently does not exist in D2 Men's Lacrosse.McLax wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 2:49 pm https://uahchargers.com/news/2020/7/10 ... eason.aspx

There are some rule changes about AQs that happened recently that would allow the championship committee to allow for AQs, but I am not sure the field is big enough yet for that.

Currently there are no conference AQ’s in D2 to the best of my knowledge.RedFromMI wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 6:22 pmInteresting article, as it says that getting to six teams in 2022 gives the PBC an automatic qualifier - which currently does not exist in D2 Men's Lacrosse.McLax wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 2:49 pm https://uahchargers.com/news/2020/7/10 ... eason.aspx

Re: UAH Men's LAX
You are correct no AQ in D2. Possibly- the author assumed that D2 has AQs similar to D1.
Under the current format I would think a PBC team would need to win their conference, go undefeated and beat some top 10 teams to make the tournament.
I think if D2 had AQs with the same number of teams in the tournament- some higher ranked more deserving teams would not make the tournament.

Re: UAH Men's LAX
Correct. Men's and women's lacrosse, football, field hockey, and rowing are the D2 team sports with no AQ. All sports that select 40 teams or more get an AQ. Unless there is a massive expansion of lax to at least 180 teams, we probably will not see the AQ in the sport.River Donkey wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 6:41 pm Currently there are no conference AQ’s in D2 to the best of my knowledge.

It can happen with fewer teams in the mix:leeatu wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 11:17 pmCorrect. Men's and women's lacrosse, football, field hockey, and rowing are the D2 team sports with no AQ. From a proposal voted upon positively at the 2016 convention:
The way I read this - if the lacrosse committee recommended AQs, and had a sensible proposal to make it happen, the Championship committee could approve and AQ system. The Championships Committee proposed the following changes to the Division II legislation on automatic qualification:
Eliminate the requirement that a championship bracket must have 48 or more teams in order to be eligible for automatic qualification.
Allow a conference’s affiliate members – schools that compete only in a sport their primary conference does not sponsor – to count toward sponsorship requirements for automatic qualification in that sport. A conference must now have six schools sponsor a sport to be eligible for automatic qualification, and affiliate members do not count toward that minimum number.
Eliminate the requirement that when automatic qualification is offered in a sport, at least 50 percent of the championship field for regional tournaments must be reserved for at-large teams. Instead, each governing sport committee would be in charge of recommending to the Championships Committee the appropriate percentage of at-large bids.
For 2020 (if championships had occurred, with 6 slots for North and South each), you had 4 North conferences big enough to be awarded an AQ (if you had such as system) - CACC, ECC, GMAC, NE10. South: CC, GLVC, SAC, Sunshine State. So a system would have 2 at large teams in each region.
Even though the current rules appear to make it possible, the "haves" conferences would raise Cain over the loss of slots.
In 2019, the conference distributions worked out like this: North - NE10 (Le Moyne, Adelphi, Merrimack), GMAC (Mercyhurst, Seton Hill), ECC (Mercy). South - Conference Carolinas (Limestone, Belmont Abbey), SAC (Wingate, Queens), Sunshine State (Tampa), GLVC (UIndy).

Any word on the new coach hire for the Chargers ? I have heard through reliable sources that they have had some very experienced coaches w big time winning experience look at the job but were not interviewed. That seems like program is not headed in right direction heading onto the Peach Belt. Too bad missed a chance to really take program to the next level. Headscratcher
Re: UAH Men's LAX
I heard in the Coaches Carousel Thread someone mentioned that they had begun to conduct interview. They weren't sure how far they were in the process. interesting that they would opt out on those experienced Coaches, care to share who they were?!Warrior62 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 5:34 pm Any word on the new coach hire for the Chargers ? Re: UAH Men's LAX
One coach who has won national championships in D 2 did not even get an interview another who has been to the near playoffs in d 2 also did not get an interview. That says schoo not really interested in winning

Finnlax, meet Warrior. Warrior, Finnlax.
Or maybe you already know each other

It's either a thoughtful comment or smartass sarcasm. Learn to recognize the difference.

Re: UAH Men's LAX
It appears that Covid 19 is wreaking havoc in the college sports programs. No matter what even the established programs are under pressure, as well as, financial scrutiny. The low hanging decisions are rising to the top, and even established programs like Mercer just lost their HC. It is hard to figure out what UAH's commitment is to their athletic programs moving forward. The new AD seems preoccupied and has yet to even announce the men's Lax HC departure. Additionally, two programs were cut, among them the men's ice-hockey program, which for the time being appears to have been spared by public donors. The budget minded approach to the upcoming season does not help their lax program getting the help everyone has hoped. One should not be surprised if some of the younger players would look to transfer out. The coaching carousel this year has certainly a very different vibe regarding many of the current openings.
Re: UAH Men's LAX
Very valid point. If 2021 is cancelled it will be interesting to see how many schools can continue to pay coaches who haven't coached a game or practice in almost two years. INCREDIBLY sad and hope schools keep commitment to long-term but at some point I'm sure all options are on the table....Finnlax35 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 4:18 pm It appears that Covid 19 is wreaking havoc in the college sports programs. Re: UAH Men's LAX
Heard a rumor they have hired someone, but haven't seen anything yet
Re: UAH Men's LAX
We'll see how the AD thinks this next season will go, and what they expect from the program.
Your preparations of today, will determine the achievements of tomorrow.
Re: UAH Men's LAX
Interested to see who UAH hires after some of the quality candidates who applied didnt get considered. The hire will tell alot about schools and ADs committment to lacrosse which so far seems to be minimal
Re: UAH Men's LAX
Yes, this appears to be the case.LaxCoach13 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 1:58 pm Heard a rumor they have hired someone, but haven't seen anything yet
Two points:
First, the lack of communication from the school speaks volumes how the school feels about the program.
Second, one can only hope that the choice they made helps the program to grow up.

Re: UAH Men's LAX
Offer made and accepted.
Word from a week ago was they were giving the hire time to settle up with his current team.
First HC job. Last 3 years assistant in D2, 2 or so years assistant in D3, Grad assistant at D2. Played D2.
Will give them courtesy of announcing but it is out there if you look hard enough.
