yeah.....with you on the "most cops stink" iceberg........but does "science" really show that cops shoot unarmed blacks more than any other segment of the population, especially when it comes to those doing the crimes, proportionately. In other words, as a privilged (just by being white) male (insert in EVERY "news" story), why does a stupid cop shooting someone with their hands up have to be about race?

This cop didn't go to jail. It's twilight zone stuff. Guess he shot him because the drunk was black. (plenty of cops kill unarmed white people )

HE GOT Off......THIS is the problem with cops, policing, procedures, etc. sick N tired of the black, black, blackey black black victimhood.

Wall Street Journal on it: https://www.wsj.com/articles/manufactur ... 1552579520

These articles lack a lot of context - it's basically being allowed to progress on some wrongful marketing claims. They will most likely be dismissed based on precedent barring some extraordinary evidence that Remington was courting mass murderers in their marketing.

The main question I I have for you and others is: should manufacturers in general be liable if their product is used in an illegal way to kill someone else? Knife manufacturers? Bat manufacturers? Car manufacturers?

Not sure this will go away so easily for Remington. It could bankrupt them. They are already on the edge. Discovery will be interesting.

Have you heard, seen some of their advertising? I would say there are examples of their advertising which could be effectively argued as courting mass murders, mobsters, people with the intended use being killing humans in an aggressive, war like, non-self defense fashion. Appeal to 10 year old boys playing cowboys and liberals. Certainly wasn't courting thoughtful hunters, responsible target shooters, etc. If Remington loses, it would not place any serious restriction on gun manufactures. I don't think such advertising is required to sell guns.

This is being branded as "Illegal Advertising". There is such a law in Connecticut. If an auto manufacturer ran ads showing their product running down pedestrians in cross walks and putting a positive spin on it, they would run afoul of this law.

Remington's been going downhill since they were bought by Freedom Group (now Remington Outdoor Company). Quality control and other issues have abounded as the new owners have been trying to squeeze out every penny from a few previously solid brands they bought.

Some of their advertising definitely speaks to machismo and other eye-rolling stereotypes of a segment of gun owners, but I doubt we're going to find any way that their advertising directly influenced the shooter or any other shooters out there to go on a killing spree. I just don't see any of their advertisements showing anything similar to "running down pedestrians in cross walks and putting a positive spin on it".

The only way I think this lawsuit is successful is if they find some kind of extremely incriminating internal document.

Here we go.....sure seems coincidental that now two countries with strict gun laws are in the news for gun violence. The latest...https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/seve ... ng-n984286
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Strict gun laws? Everyone knows the guns were bought in Indiana, er, I mean Düsseldorf and brought in to Utrecht.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday announced a national ban on all military-style semiautomatic weapons, all high-capacity ammunition magazines and all parts that allow weapons to be modified into the kinds of guns used to kill 50 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, last week.

Chris Cahill, president of the Police Association, the union representing New Zealand’s police officers, praised Ms. Ardern’s plan, saying his group had been calling for such measures for years.

Why the National Rifle Association Is Under Fire Like Never Before

"Against the backdrop of a large American flag, Wayne LaPierre, the longtime CEO of the National Rifle Association, opened his speech at this spring’s Conservative Political Action Conference on a familiar apocalyptic note: “Today, we at the NRA awaken each morning to new challenges—threats against our organizations‚ heated and vile political rhetoric, and new forms of opposition that violate the spirit and the letter of the very freedoms our republic was founded to protect.” He then focused on alleged conspiracies by tech companies to silence conservative speech and by the governor of New York to “blacklist” the NRA from doing business with financial institutions."

Have to laugh at the republican hypocrites once again. President Smallhead does more to reign in gun craziness in 2.5 years with his executive order than the Black Kenyan Socialist did in 8 years, and not a peep from the usual clowns. Admittedly not much and something I support (ban on fully automatic weapons), but nonetheless the outrage we would have heard if the BKS had done this is deafening.

We're on the eve of the 20 year anniversary of Columbine.

There was that strange incident the other day with the teenager who was obsessed with Columbine who shot herself - https://www.denverpost.com/2019/04/17/s ... oman-dead/

I haven't listened to the whole thing, but a podcast popped up on my list called "Since Columbine". Here's a link - https://www.cpr.org/news/podcast/since-columbine

I did hear the second episode, "What We've Learned About School Shooters." It's quite interesting and delves into the psychology of school shooters and what we can do to prevent this kind of stuff. It's 20 minutes and well, well worth the time.

The main takeaway seems to be that a lot of it is media driven. Lots of potential shooters who were stopped cite Columbine and other shootings as inspiration. The non-stop attention helps create copycats. Other things that make a difference are properly securing guns in our homes and providing outlets where students can report potential shooters as a lot of potential shooters tend to tell someone they're going to shoot up a school.
