I have NO idea how anyone looks at that chart and thinks "problem with the American Health Care system? What Problem?

I guess everyone on this board thinks it makes sense to pay twice the going rate, and to hand it to middle men who do NOTHING to keep you or your family healthy.

frmanfan wrote: Fri Mar 29, 2019 7:10 am This would of course open the inevitable can of worms. Turn the system over to the politicians, which is what a government run system would be, and it would be "free" insulin today, but what about my medicine? Why am I paying for that? If health care is declared a right, as some claim, there would be no end to this game.
If you want to get people to decide if they prefer the free market to a government system, this is an easy solve.

Allow people to opt out of Medicare. But once they're out, that's it. No coming back. Folks who think government is bad can enjoy not only paying free market premiums at age 70....oh, I'm sure everyone can afford that, no problem....but also, insurers might, you know, not exist at all, because they can't turn a profit.

And then guys like me get laugh my *ss off at the people who think the government is bad, and the free market loves them. The best part would be watching people realize that SS and Medicare's real function is to protect you from the bad decisions/bad luck of other citizens. So when your brother/aunt/grandma opts out of Medicare....and can't afford the free market care, and they are now homeless and can't afford life saving drugs what do you do? Great news! Millions of citizens will get to answer that question in real life!

When can we start this plan? It'd take, what----- a year, a year and a half before everyone would run to Uncle Sam, begging for help?

Fer sure. Just like housewife Alisa O'Connor did after years of telling everyone how F★★★★D up government was, she suddenly had a change of heart and collected the welfare benefits she denied to all others. You know her for posing as right wing cultist Ayn Rand. Millions continue to be deceived by the sh|t goddess and her lunacy ideology even though there isn't a shred of truth in any of that caca. Let all those delusional buffoons drop out of the government system. Soon enough many will come back to it with hat in hand, on bended knee, with tears a-flowing, just like she did.

Rick Scott was on Face The Nation

Kelly Anne was on Fox News with Chris Wallace

Mick Mulvaney was on This Week

John Barraso was on Meet the Press

Everyone of them says that the Rs new plan will cover pre-existing conditions, along with Trump.

Not one of them could actually provide any details or links to any proposals.

Democrats have called for HCR for decades, especially after Ted Kennedy's 1980 speech:
https://healthbeatblog.com/2009/08/let- ... and-rally/

We have waited nearly 40 years for the GOP to present its plan but they have failed to do so. Instead, all they have given us is their death panels. Tens of thousands of impoverished innocents have died because of this so that their blood is on the hands of the far right. That is, those who call themselves the party of family and moral Christian values.

Skimpy health plans touted by Trump bring back familiar woes for consumers

There used to be a lot of health insurance horror stories like Charley Butler’s.

After the Montana truck driver was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016, his insurer balked at paying tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills and then moved to cancel his coverage over a preexisting medical condition.

These practices were largely banned by the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, which set new national health insurance standards to protect consumers and bar discrimination based on preexisting conditions.

But as the Trump administration has pushed to relax many of these rules, skimpier short-term health plans like the one Butler bought are roaring back, threatening to subject consumers to many of the ordeals patients endured before the healthcare law.

I agree with you on your critique of not for profit healthcare co's, especially the insurance co's, and exec salaries.

Why did they lobby for Obamacare? Because it maintained the private health insurance system, indeed increased their customer base, and reduced uncompensated care.

Scared to death of single-payor or even public option.

No question the insurance companies made out and that is Obama's fault. He should have gone straight for single payer, medicare for all, would have been less expensive and the roll out would have been a non-event. Easier to scale something already working well, rather than build something new and not use existing parts that worked. This is what comes from trying to compromise, sending a conciliatory signal to the republicans (using a republican game plan). Not listening to Pelosi and company.

I have to laugh(along with afan) every time one of the Trumpnista fools calls Obama a socialist, a left wing extremist.
