Everyone in Congress who thinks that governing is a sport. McConnell, by far. Pelosi, not far behind. We already know Trump's work to dismantle Gov. agencies he doesn't understand.

And everyone who thinks socialism or government infrastructure is bad, and should be cut because they think "the free market should handle it".

Poorly worded on my part, my apologies-----20 years of Congress is who I blame for preparedness. Last good Congress we had was led by Newt. At least they TRIED to work together and improve things.

It's just that McConnell and Pelosi's reign has been an unmitigated sh*tshow. I'm sick of them.

Show of hands: who thinks America would be 1000% better off if we could get rid of both Pelosi and McConnell, and get someone who gives a damn about Americans in charge of legislation?

😂. You’re kidding, right? Merely commenting on a relatively fascinating very independent thought piece is ‘partisan’?

How many times do you need me to say here that I could not care less if Medium took his piece down? 100x? 😂

I’m more fascinated by the Left’s embrace of totalitarianism vis suppression of speech and information. Sorry but that intrigues me!

Tell me when the Right accosts a press secretary at a restaurant or a majority leader in his driveway, or a google engineer who says something positive about the left, or shoots up a group of Democrats at a softball game. I’ll wait!

Suppression of free speech/information? You mean like tRUMP's calling CNN "fake news" and refusing to answer their questions or to allow them access to news conferences? Or the radical right's attacks and threats on the Dixie Chicks?

Accosting someone? You mean like Republican Greg Gianforte 'body slamming' a Guardian reporter in Montana and having tRUMP praising him for doing so?

Shooting up people? You mean like right wing hero Timothy McVeigh blowing up a building killing 168 people and maiming others?

Charlottesville? Gordon Kahl? Eric Rudolph? Shoot 'em up at a synagogue or black church in South Carolina? Voter suppression in the South, gerrymandering?

Sorry pal, but it's the delusional right wing that has long embraced totalitarianism.
That said, let's not kid ourselves that the left is incapable of full scale totalitarianism. Of course they are.

That's why we need to respect the system that prevents us from going either way.

But totally agree that the risk right now is far more from the right than the left.

On the subject of partisanship-----my facebook feed is as diverse as you can get. And the lefties are calling out Pelosi's nonsense (emissions tacked on, etc.) and the righties are calling out McConnell's bailout for Billionaires, and screw the everyday guy nonsense. Everyone is fed up with them.

I hope it lasts til November, and every last incumbent loses.

This could be a death blow for the airline industry, which has made a remarkable comeback from 9-11.
Even with a bailout, it will be difficult to prevent bankruptcies & massive layoffs.
When the industry consolidates & comes back, there will be fewer choices & fewer good fares for travelers.
To hang carbon restrictions on the industry while in crisis is selfdefeating.

I have started looking in more detail at the international data. Comparing it to the US. It is not good.

Currently the nation with the highest number of cases per 100,000 in population is Italy at 105.7 cases / capita. New York State is worse at 107.3 cases / capita and Italy is 2 weeks ahead of New York State. Italy is about 3 times more populous. Italy currently has 100 deaths per million. NYS is no where near this, yet. Hopefully they won't. Italy is currently seeing about 9.5% death rate. NYS is currently at about 1% death rate, but don't be fooled, this will go up.

There are a number of European countries that to me appear to be doing considerably better than the US, and certainly better than NYS. Germany is the shining star. They are a week or two ahead of the US and have a larger per capita infection rate and a slightly smaller death per capita than the US as a whole. They have a death rate (death per infection) about 30% of the US. Part of that is probably due to our lousy testing, but they have their own testing issues I would think. What is true, is they have an order of magnitude more ICUs per capita than the US does. Austria, Norway, Denmark and Sweden all seem to be doing better given their earlier start dates as well. They certainly aren't lagging the US to any significant extant. France, Belgium and Holland seem to be doing slightly worse than the US, but are also farther along the curve.

Trump should have divested himself of his businesses on day one of his presidency and put them in a blind trust. Why are we even talking about this now? Oh, you mean to say he never did? Surprise, surprise.

Not just divesting. Trump family business relies on certain properties more than others. Trump Doral golf course a big part, and it is now shut down. Got to be lot of hurt there for OD and family to lose all that cash flow.

Anyway. back on planet earth, our firefighting non-partisan (we swear!) media is all over the story of an Arizona couple who drank Trump's touted cure drug and died. Blaming, drum roll please cause this surely will shock the conscience, Trump! lol. When I down a gallon of bleach later today (Cuomo said it killed 99.99% of all germs!), will Brooklyn be out there slaying Andy on the internet for giving me tips on how to stop spreading germs?!

Yeah, nothing scares the people more than a gang of Republican families attending a Fourth of July parade!

Back to freedom of speech.

You either stand for free speech or you don’t. You either stand for the First Amendment or you don’t. You either believe that every citizen has the right to speak freely (with the exception of direct, credible threats), or you want the government to be able to have the power to decide which opinions are or are not acceptable. Which opinions are or are not imprisonable.

Which party do you think wants to control speech and which one doesn't? You haven't been paying attention if you answer incorrectly.

Another word you don't understand. Totalitarianism means the State does the suppression, not, you know, experts in a field mocking some dumb*ss on the internet.

When someone who knows zippo about infections diseases blathers nonsense....and an expert in infectious diseases tells him to shut up, you're making the situation worse, because people like Pete Brown believe they guy's nonsense "deserves consideration".....you think this this is totalitarianism?

Wanna hear my lecture on aerodynamics? I haven't read a single book on it. Should I give a lecture, and wait for Boeing's designers to spend a few hours mulling over my "ideas" on the subject? And if the Boeing engineers tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, shut up.....should I cry and call them totalitarians?

Where do you come up with this stuff?

Oh right. Because the American right would never go in and, I don't know, mow down black parishioners in a church because they have nothing better to do?

What world are you living in where you have concluded the left is the source of all evil in the world, and the right are shiny knights that save the pwetty princesses? Is it true that only registered Democrats are in prison? And Democrats are mean to animals for no reason?

Inquiring minds want to know. You really seem to have the world figured out.

You either stand for freedom of speech, a fan, or you don't. It's quite simple.

You're hiding, as all leftists do, behind the 'private companies aren't the government' phony shell.

Either for it, or you're not. We all know the Left would crater free speech if given half the chance. And most here on this board who parrot left talking points would be perfectly fine were that to come to pass (until they take your speech, which they will).

How’s about seeing how it all plays out? You guys are like the Catholic Church arresting Galileo for heresy for believing the earth revolves around the sun. You’ve got the same puritanical passion and intolerance.
See how it all plays out - millions dead, huh?

And this guy is an expert. This has nothing to do with Galileo and the church.

You wanted to know why some of us think the Ginn piece just sucks. It is because even I could find lots of problems with Ginn's fast and loose use of data. And I said so in my first response to your post.

Your answer is to call us names. It is because you don't really have an argument - Ginn's work sucks.

And actually having read War and Peace, what I posted isn't anywhere near that size.

You mean your post wasn't as long as War and Peace? Dang, knock me over with a feather, Red! I mean, you read it, I must take your word as the expert on Tolstoy!
