Any reports on spring sports for W&L , ODAC? NESCAC issues I believe Amherst, Williams and Bowdoin have selected students on campus. Are all ODAC students on campus. With numbers rising wait until thanksgiving and Christmas.... I get a sense Biden will look to tighten regs on what can and can’t open this Spring, even if there is a vaccine.

Randolph never brought their students back. I know Lynchburg is ending the semester early, at least the in-person portion that is. I can’t remember what HSC is doing, definitely pretty different and I know it’s all in person, ending around the same time as usual.

So the ODAC is on for 21. It’s a large freshman class plus 2 transfers. Who within those categories could have an impact this year. Here’s a few;

There is a tentative 2021 schedule on the W&L website. 10 games, all conference games beginning March 13. Hopefully, they can pull this off. I think no visitors are welcome on campus, so the web streaming video may be our only fix.

HS class of 2021 headed to W&L. Goalie looks solid, with Covid not sure when these highlights were made, some look young. To what degree has covid and the loss of Coach Corrigan affected this recruiting class? The W&L graduating class of 2021 started with 15 players on the roster yielding 9 that continue to play. More than a third didn’t make it to the finish line. This years freshman class also has 15 freshman, hope the majority of them stick. Both the Soph and Jr class carry 16 players each, you win with seniors like to see back to back seasons with a large class graduating both years

You're leaving off the top recruit of the class.

I also hear they have a kid coming in from Jersey and another from PA who are pretty legit

So W&L’s President has hit the pause button concerning sports. It will be interesting to see his reaction should covid become an “endemic” disease. It may turn out that this is something we are just going to have to learn to live with long term. Like HIV it hasn’t gone away we learned how to deal with it. Like measles and the common cold this looks like it’s here to stay. If that’s the proposition we are faced with then the administration should begin to think about the long term effects of covid not just for sports but the university as well. Sports should be given a chance while using strict standards while we learn to live with Covid and its variations. This isn’t going away let’s learn to live with it. As an endemic disease over the next few years the available hosts decline over time each infected person just passes it on to one or two as most others have been vaccinated,had the disease or passed. You don’t get to be 18-21 again hopefully they get to live their lives as normally as possible.

Are you sure? This indicates varsity sports are active, with some restrictions - https://my.wlu.edu/covid-19-resources/c ... -level-2-8.

, looks like women’s basketball is on for tonight

Nice to see the women’s b ball team come out with a win. Glad to see these young people getting a crack at having some semblance of a college experience

I applaud W&L for not only moving forward with intercollegiate competition, but for finding a way to accommodate parents to watch their student athlete in person. Well done!

However, reading the guidelines that have to be adhered to to accommodation that luxury it really struck me unlike any other of the countless articles I’ve read about the disruptions this virus has caused. Very strange! Am I the only one that thought of a George Orwell novel when reviewing the restrictions? It’s almost as though you wonder what’s the point of even going. But I immediately snap back to the parent in me and if W&L were my sons team I’d be most definitely saying - “Heck yeah, count me in. I just want to watch the boys play!”

That certainly is great for the player’s parents to hear.

And while it’s completely understandable that there would be numerous restrictions, paragraph 2 bullet number 10 of 16 really struck me.

Along with already having to have been a current student, faculty, family of coach, or one of the two guests allowed each player, who had their name reported to staff 24 hours in advance, who parked in their designated spot, socially distanced, not eating or drinking anything, kept mask on the entire game etc. you’re also not allowed to get up from your seat the whole time. (Bathroom?!?)

Oh, and the stipulation that this is all superseded by the COVID reduced capacity limitations of the facility (which in this case was already parred down to just two sections for spectators).

It’s nice that they’re trying, but a video feed sounds good to me.
