Looking over the recruits as they file in, it’s evident that there is an emphasis being placed on D & LSM.

Additionally, the athletes have a recurring theme of size and/or a multi-sport background.

Coach Childs certainly has no difficulty grooming offensive talent, so I like the attention I see being paid to the defensive side of things.

Schedule up.

https://ycp.prestosports.com/sports/mla ... 0/schedule

Down to 5 conference games with Frostburg out, so there is another OOC game.

Changes are:
OUT
McDaniel, Bryn Athyn, Frostburg*
IN
Ohio Wesleyan, Lycoming, Mt St Mary’s (NY)

Drawing OWU and RIT at the Mustang.

Hope that MSM game is to increase recruiting profile in NY/NJ, b/c it’s sure not a SOS bump. If Vegas took D3 lax bets, the spread would be in the neighborhood of 20 goals.

Correct. the MSM game is not a SOS bump, though certainly not a downgrade from losing the likes of Bryn Athyn either.

Out of conference they have W&L, Gettysburg, Lynchburg, Cabrini, Stevenson, RIT and OWU. (Same top teams as last year but adding OWU)

With Salisbury and CNU in conference, this will probably be one of the stronger DIII schedules you will see this year.

Real trade off here was getting OWU in and Frostburg out, and yes, that’s a SOS boost.

You can’t just look at their records and the score vs the one common opponent. (Well I guess you can, but you won’t have a great idea of who is better than who in this case) There are a lot of 12-8ish teams who would lose to Salisbury, and they are not all as good as one another.

Look at their schedules. OWU had a decidedly tougher SOS (Cabrini, RIT, Salisbury, Denison).

I was (and still am) going by that, combined with the final D3 top 20 coaches poll. With Frostburg up in D2 now, that final poll is our remaining litmus on where they stood against one another at the end of last year (at least in the eyes that count). OWU got votes. FSU got none. (I know those coaches watch quite a bit)

Deep

I actually chuckled a little with you saying the coaches on the poll "watch quite a bit" Lycoming received 9 votes at 9-9 playing no one

They were blown out in all their top 20 matchups and lost to all of the teams they played in the top 40ish. Lose top 4 scorers. Just cause you schedule hard doesn't mean you're good.

I have Spartans by 10+ with my only concern that it maybe closer because of the environment and set up of Mustang Classic and looking ahead to RIT

:? Perhaps those coaches are not watching as much as I would hope. As I watched York fight they’re way into relevancy over the years, I always felt that teams’ historical success’ factored in to current rankings way too much. Maybe OWU is benefiting from that.

I’m not saying OWU is good or bad, I’m saying that playing them over FSU is an improvement to York’s SOS in the eyes of the people putting those little numbers next to the teams. (To my understanding, OWU & FSU’s own SOS’ are factored in to that)

Yes. Trap game potential indeed. I’ve got a running bet with an old high school teammate and RIT guy. Needless to say, he’s running up a tab on me...

Shaadb-man,

No doubt York is the superior team but I'd caution any teams that might overlook OWU. They're always a scrappy group that plays hard. They lost some key players a couple years ago, but you never know what a year of chemistry and an off-season training may produce. I honestly have no idea and don't have a horse in the race, but it would be wise for any team playing OWU to be prepared.

York lost 4 out of their top 5 scorers and fogo I believe. Childs is an excellent coach and has really ramped up the program these last few years. W&L lost AJ and Mize on the offensive end and have a lot of questions on D that need to be answered. First game of the season for both groups. Have to believe there’s some extra incentive in this one for the Gennies based on how they went out last year. Will this be another close contest or a blow out by either side.
