CAA (M)
Conference: Eight games with four home and four
away. Teams face four teams once apiece and two
teams twice each.

Non-conference: Up to each institution’s discretion.
“My administration has been wonderful to work with,
”Hofstra coach Seth Tierney said. “We’re trying to base
it on 75 percent of what we’d allow. We’re hopeful to
get into the lower teens — 12, 13, 14 games. They’ve asked all the teams to be as financially sensitive and feasible as possible. If it’s an overnight situation, bring
it forward and decide if it’s worth it.”

Conference tournament: Top four teams will play at Hofstra, which was selected to minimize travel for all teams, on May 6-8.
There you go, Tierney let the cat out of the bag.
As you’d expect, minimize overnight stays, which
anyone playing at UMass, that’s an overnighter.

Albany Drexel Feb 27
Albany Umass March 9
So three games on the schedule, subject to change
I’d assume, Villanova is showing Delaware on their
schedule,
FEB 13 (SAT) TBD
AT UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE
NEWARK, DE
Will Villanova be able to squeeze in the other CAA
teams normally on their schedule, I’m guessing
Drexel, yes, Hofstra, Fairfield, no.

So, eight conference games required for the CAA.
So, six other/OCC slots available with Towson,
I’ll assume for now all the Maryland teams from last year
+ Georgetown get five of those slots.

So this makes sense now,
they play three CAA teams twice and
then the other two once,

first game is Tigers at UVA in 16 days.

IL has two CAA teams on a teams-to-watch list,
https://www.insidelacrosse.com/slidesho ... ?slide=all
Drexel was 3-3 last year, but its three losses were
one-goal setbacks to Albany, High Point and Saint
Joseph’s. They avenged the Saint Joe’s loss two
days later, beating a Top 15 Villanova program. It’s
also a team that was two goals shy of winning the
CAA Tournament in 2019. Point is, Drexel’s been
close. Their key fifth-years are back, with Reid
Bowering, Matt Varian, Collin Mailman, Luke Hurley
and Jimmeh Koita. That’s a good mix — with Bowering
the scorer and finisher, Varian the dodger and feeder
and Mailman athletic coming downhill. Koita has been winning face-offs above 50% the past three years. The
CAA is a dogfight. UMass seems to be a safe preseason
leader, but you could essentially put the next five
teams in any order and you wouldn’t be wrong.
See point prior about the CAA. Fairfield, like Drexel, might be sneaking under the radar in the league —
but they’re a threat. Dylan Beckwith, the dynamic lefty,
is in contention for CAA Player of the Year. Add in Matt Chlastawa as a do-it-all guy to go with Beckwith and
Bryan Reda, and that’s a good group. Travis Ford can
shoot and score from the midfield. And Jake Tymon
can lead a D. What’s going to be intriguing is how teams
do in Year 2 with a new coach given the COVID-19 pandemic. Does more time on a non-field setting hurt,
or potentially help?

CAA Announces Revised Championships Schedule For The 2020-21 Season

RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its revised conference championship schedule for the 2020-21 season as well as new scheduling formats for regular-season competition.

With the movement of fall sports to the spring due to the CoVID 19 pandemic, the CAA is planning to conduct 21 championships over an 11-week period starting in early March and concluding in late May.

The conference has adopted divisional scheduling formats in the sports of baseball, women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, softball and volleyball with the goal of reducing travel and limiting overnight stays.

"I'd like to thank the CAA athletic directors, senior woman administrators and conference staff for the countless hours they've dedicated to putting together schedules that will allow our teams to compete this spring," CAA Commissioner Joe D'Antonio said. "The health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes and coaches remains at the forefront of all decisions that we have made and will continue to make. We are excited to provide an opportunity for our student-athletes, who have endured so much over the past 10 months, to be able to return to competition."

Do all 8 games count in the conference standings or only the 5 game round robin?

Sounds like all 8 will count, to determine the
tournament of 4.
So, as many as 10 conference games for two teams.

Updated rosters, interesting to see all of the transfers and 5th years.
Wasn't every publication / media saying Varian was coming back?

He was there until recent.

Who knows, disciplinary, injury, that knee never really came back all the way, hopefully its just something "mundane"
like he got a work position he just could not pass up.
I don't see anyone on that roster who can make up for Matt Varian, they'll just have to experiment and slog through it.

Next up, my choice would be Ryan Genord, he had a very good 2020, but I believe they’ll go with Jack Mulcahy.

If Varian is not back, that will seriously hurt Drexel’s chances of winning the CAA. The only way Drexel wins with their defense is by scoring 14 a game. Bowering is a great 1v1 player with a sick nose for the goal, but Varian is the straw that stirs the drink on offense. Mulcahy will have to step up big time. He’s a great young player and could do it. We shall see.

The CAA will be a dogfight again this year. It'll be interesting to see the impact of the fifth year guys.

I'm disappointed to see Matt Varian (82g 84a) off the Drexel roster because he was one of the top 6 fifth-year offensive guys predicted to return this year (although he redshirted, so this would have been his sixth). The other five in no particular order are Ryan Tierney at Hofstra (121g 65a), Reid Bowering, Drexel (122g 34a), Charlie Kitchen, Delaware (118g 66a), Dylan Beckwith, Fairfield (80g 77a) and Jeff Trainor, UMass (76g 53a).

These are the guys who might determine who gets out of the Thunderdome in May. But of course, the ultimate winner, as per usual, will be the team with the most dominant defense and goaltending. That is why most people have UMass as the favorite going into the season.

To be seen is whether UD can replace DeLuca in goal and if Hofstra and Drexel can tighten up their defense a bit. I have no doubt Towson will have a great defense but they are coming off a season where they scored SEVEN goals a game. Tough to win that way. Fairfield is a work in progress.

Should be fun.

The only point I’d make on Varian, Drexel has done better
in recruiting the past few years after having gotten
pummelled during that early recruiting phase. Last year
they did a decent job re-working their offense after
losing to graduation one of the top CAA players no one
knew about, Marshall King,

But, yes, the returning seniors are going to be tough
to beat, these players should be fully charged after
missing out on so much lacrosse.

As far as goaltending, no Ben DeLuca, no Sean Sconone,
Jack Concannon or Tyler White in this group, but the
freshmen at UMass looked good last year especially
against Yale, and also, the Tigers do return Shane Brennan
who has valuable experience from those 2017, 2019 top
Towson teams.

The most complete teams across all areas look to be who
anyone would expect, UMass, Hens, Dutch.

10Stone5,

The Hens could put Ben DeLuca in goal, but I think he used up his eligibility at Cornell twenty years ago. They will, however, miss MATT DeLuca in net.
