Patriot League 2020 Championship Final Prediction (Poll)

Post by laxpere »

Patriot League pre season top-20 ranked teams

14. Loyola What's life without Pat Spencer, Jacob Stover and Chase Scanlan going to look like for Gang Green? Aidan Olmstead and Kevin Lindley seize the moment. LSM Ryan McNulty is a havoc creator — he can actually cover the ball-carrier which is seemingly becoming a lost art for offensive-minded LSMs. The schedule is tough, facing Virginia, Johns Hopkins, Rutgers, Towson, and Duke in the first month.

15. Army The Cadets will have firepower led by quick-witted Brendan Nichtern and a handful of top scorers from 2019, but will a new goalie and top defender be enough in their annual ritual of close games? Patriot League feels like trail mix. CBS Sports will televise 10 or so Patriot League games this season.

20. Lehigh Unless they upset either Penn State or Virginia, their non-conference slate (average RPI 44) offers little entry as an at-large selection, although the Patriot League is wide open and Lehigh will win boatloads of face-offs — which is why the IL brain trust slots them here ahead of Delaware, Albany, Navy, ’Nova, Rutgers, Princeton, Hofstra, Drexel, Richmond, Bucknell, RoMo, Michigan and Marquette.

Patriot League Championship Games
2010 Army 11 - Navy 8
2011 Bucknell 10 - Colgate 3
2012 Lehigh 16 - Colgate 14
2013 Lehigh 11 - Bucknell 5
2014 Loyola 16 - Lehigh 7
2015 Colgate 11 - Army 8
2016 Loyola 14 - Army 6
2017 Loyola 13 - Army 4
2018 Loyola 15 - Lehigh 8
2019 Army 11 - Lehigh 7

Navy vs. Lehigh in 2020 PLT with Mids earning the tourney title and AQ for NCAAT. Go Mids!

Obviously being a little biased, but i see Loyola's non conference schedule as grueling and preparing for patriot league play. It is not where you start it is where you finish and I see Coach Toomey having all the pieces in place by tournament time

Did Navy add some good players this year, or just new coaches?

I did see any one new from Navy, Even BU had a pretty big dump off. This is how the coaches see it. After the top three Army, Loyola and Leigh I think it will be tight. I put Army first for ya Lenwood.

Agreed - I think it's in jest, but IMHO, Navy, and the Patriot League in general, add good (really good) players / exceptional student-athletes, EVERY year...one of the many attributes that makes the PL so attractive to compete in for serious student-athletes. John Feinstein captured that aspect of the PL twenty years ago in his book, The Last Amateurs, and it's still relevant today.

Hmm...IMHO, looks like a misguided preseason pick by the 2020 PL coaches and SIDs for Navy at #5 in the PL...however, VERY well guided pick for Gk Ryan Kern on the preseason all-league team.

https://navysports.com/news/2020/1/22/n ... -poll.aspx
The Navy men's lacrosse team has been picked fifth in the 2020 Patriot League Preseason Poll in a vote cast by the league's coaches and sports information directors, it was announced by the conference office this week. Additionally, goalkeeper Ryan Kern (Sr / Middletown, Del.) was named to the preseason all-league team.

2020 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Preseason Poll
1. Loyola, 111 points (8 first-place votes)
2. Army, 111 (7)
3. Lehigh, 99 (3)
4. Boston U., 76
5. Navy, 59
T6. Bucknell, 55
T6. Holy Cross, 55
8. Colgate, 31
9. Lafayette, 15
GO MIDS! ... best wishes scrimmaging UDE Blue Hens this weekend and building on the solid play vs. JAX and UNC from last week.

USILA Preseason Poll
14 Loyola Maryland 121
15 Army West Point 96
20 Lehigh 25
Navy 6
Bucknell 4
Schedules prior to first week of PL play on February 29th
Care to guess early season records?
Loyola plays UVA/JHU/Rutgers/Towson 1-3 or 2-2? Probably very unlikely to happen but is there an outside shot at 0-4 without the three Ss (Spencer/Stover/Scanlan)?
Army plays Mass/NJIT/Rutgers/Marist/Cuse 2-3 or 3-2?
Lehigh plays UT/UVA/VMI/NJIT 3-1 or 4-0?
Navy plays Manhattan/Furman/Rich/MD 2-2 or 3-1?
Bucknell plays Furman/Bryant/SHU/OSU/Binghamton 3-2 or 4-1?

Lehigh plays UT/UVA/VMI/NJIT 3-1 or 4-0?... 4-0?! Really?!... 3-1.
Navy plays Manhattan/Furman/Rich/MD 2-2 or 3-1?... 2-2.
Bucknell plays Furman/Bryant/SHU/OSU/Binghamton 3-2 or 4-1?... 4-1.

I agree that the first is the toughest one.
Maybe I am underestimating UT, but I didn't want to use 2-2 since losing more than one of the first four games on that schedule would be a disaster.
Could Marist be a landmine for Army?
