In 2016, 2017, and 2018, they were contenders until the end for the postseason. In 2019, they dropped about, as their hopes for an at-large berth ended early. No doubt they had a brutal schedule. They actually improved in one way-by not having any bad losses.
Rutgers will have a new goalie and, I believe, some new defenders in 2020. However, most of their offense is returning. How is their incoming recruiting class looking?
Rutgers 2020
Re: Rutgers 2020
Tons of returning offense and some good pieces on defense. They lose a little bit of depth in their midfield but return some really good pieces. Their top FOGO returns after playing through injuries this past year. The loss of Edelmann in goal is huge. They could count on him to outright commit robbery on shooters a couple of times a game. Their defense will have to improve and let up fewer point blank shots that Edelmann would somehow save. With Michigan getting better, OSU returning a ton, PSU returning everyone, Maryland returning 80+% of its scoring, and JHU bringing back Epstein at attack...RU is in for a tough, tough season.
Re: Rutgers 2020
The loss of Edelmann, Pless, Christiano and Rose looms large. And, its no certainty that Charlambides, who will be next season a 24 year old 2d year post grad student, returns to risk further injury. I liked Pounds in HS; but then again I liked his brother in HS as well and he didn't return for a second season at Annapolis. I agree that RU is in for a tough 2020.Wheels wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 2:28 pm Tons of returning offense and some good pieces on defense. Re: Rutgers 2020
Edelman was an excellent goalie, biggest void in 2020 to fill and present pickings right now appear slim.
Re: Rutgers 2020
Rutgers gets a commitment from Harford CC M/FO Moriah Yousefi.
Nice depth add to the Scarlet Knights. Kid can play and did great against the best JUCO talent out there last season.

Duncan Clancy, freshman at RU in '10, sophomore in '11, injuries... Graduated from Jacksonville (I think this is accurate), and... What happened with Clancy? Why leave RU? Was the injury so serious? Did he make noise at Jacksonville?

Re: Rutgers 2020
Anyone have insight into who will start in the cage? Looks like 3 transfers and a freshman.
49 Kevin Carbone Gr. Goalkeeper Huntington, N.Y. / Chaminade HS Binghamton University
41 Zach Groff Fr. Goalkeeper Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge High School
36 Stephen Russo Jr. Goalkeeper Livingston, N.J. / Livingston HS Cleveland State
43 Billy Kelly Sr. Goalie East Northport, N.Y. / Northport HS Nassau Community College
30 Ben Pounds So. Goalie Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood
91 Cole Touhey Jr. Goalie Gladstone, N.J. / Rutgers Prep
Zach Groff was very solid in club ball and in high school. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the Big Ten.
Re: Rutgers 2020
Here is a summary from Rutgers Head Coach Brian Brecht regarding last Saturday's scrimmage with Georgetown. Sounds like after halftime Rutgers substituted freely especially after building up a 14-8 lead at the end of 3 quarters:
"I was pleased with the scrimmage as we played it like a real game and after the first half with our starters RU led 8-6. We subbed Mullins, Charalambides, our first midfield, and defense and was able to grow the lead after three quarters 14-8. The final score was 15-16 as the fourth quarter was a good experience to have everyone that was healthy play as we had a chance to play 3 different goalies and all 42 players that traveled. On the scoring sheet for the night, Kamish had 4 goals and 1 assist, AC had 2 goals and 1 assist, Mullins 2 goals, Scott 2 goals, Sprock, Peterson, Mead, Gillespie and Stevenson all had a goal with Schachte and Sanguinetti both having 2 assists and Bullett and Masessa both chipping in with 1 assist for the game."

Re: Rutgers 2020
Precisely. Coach Brecht will send scrimmage summaries and periodic YouTube links on practice and conditioning activities to lax alums and interested parties.
Re: Rutgers 2020

Re: Rutgers 2020
Rutgers may not be the best team in B10 but they can upset anyone in or out of conference unlike their football squad

Re: Rutgers 2020
what is the goalie situation for 2020, looks like there are 5-6 on the roster
Re: Rutgers 2020
That was not long after Tom Hayes moved from Drexel, Hayes got Drexel to two small college tournaments (USILA) and then of course, the Knights were regulars in the NCAAs.
Steve Fink out of Springfield was one great player, brother of Dennis Fink.
