Twenty (20) years ago today...

Post by Turtles Lax »

...YOUR University of Maryland Women’s Lacrosse Team (aka: TL’s Laxchix) won their seventh (7th!) CONSECUTIVE Natty ‘Ship beating Georgetown 14-13 following multiple overtime periods ending in sudden death VICTORY! TL was there...duh!

The game was played at The Hop in truly miserable wet and cold conditions.

To the best of TL’s recollection, the Mighty Terrapins jumped out to a 7 or 8 to zip lead before the Sheehan Stanwick led Hoyas got back in it. It was then a really well played battle royale.

Then to OT...another OT...(maybe another)... then a golden goal by Allison Comito off an assist by Tori Wellington. Frankly, nobody knew the game was over for a moment or two.

One of a TL’s all-time fav lax memories is Alex Venechanos stopping multiple free throws by the great Sheehan Stanwick in OT.

Wish TL could recall every moment of that great game but remembers lotsa stuff about the after party back in glorious College Park.

Can anyone name the Terp MOM who wowed us with a seemingly world record keg stand that night? Probably not.

But can anyone recall what still standing all time women’s lax record was set in the quarterfinal game that got TL’s Laxchix to the last 4? Go ahead and post a reply...

Peace, out.

The game you're referencing was 19 years ago.

Your are correct.

Game was 2001...was counting ‘seasons’, not years, but still technically wrong, of course.

Peace, out.

1 - Was it Connie Chung '69?

2 - Most minutes played in a season by a GK.

Nope...not remotely close.

‘Twas a Terp MOM...and Turtles played 2 keepers that season...including the ‘Ship game.

Peace, out.
