And tiring. The skill level of the women on the field at any one time is astounding. Need to work on defense.

I really like the women's version of this.

For good players it makes alot of since to place more onus on the offensive player to shoot safely.
I've watched the full game you linked and it only had one whistle in the whole game.

While shooting space is gone the have a new rule called Walling
Rule 11.11 Walling
11.11.1 Defensive players crowding in front of their goal or forming a stack/wall type formation in front of
their goal without marking an opponent within a stick’s length. Double-teaming an off-ball attacker
in front of the goal is permitted.
I wonder how you read "defensive players". Does that mean it can be singular or does it need to be at least two players Walling?

The men's stick make it a bit to easy to score. But i like that the rule set are very similar.

Just curious: do you guys mean this in a negative way?

I'd really be unhappy if this was the style and rules adopted for the Olympics. I love small games for practices and conditioning, but that's about it.

Can't speak for 8meterPa but for me, yes. I have the same feeling as you on that.

I detest this style of play. Makes goals meaningless. No spontaneous celebration. No regrouping/discussion after goals.

I’m puzzled as to what the rationale was for the change of style for the olympics. Changes the whole game. I’m curious what the players think about this style. Is it all in the name of “Growing the Game”? Well this is a Change to the Game. I hate it.

Basically, Cletus, I agree with you, other than as a fun way to shake things up during practice or something. The "rationale" is as you say. I think one of the color announcers says it in the opening remarks of the full game video: to make the game "grow" by being accessible to the public who won't bother to learn the rules and cannot be expected to handle whistles.

Not meant to be a positive or negative comment - just an observation.

My point was that it is just like a NBA all star game - run and gun, no defense and is just entertainment, not a real game. But doesn't mean it's not fun to watch athletes sprint up the field and sling shots from beyond the 8 meter.

Sorta like the home run derby as another comparison

A Cletus sighting!!!! Good to hear from you again...In principal I agree with you. If this style wasnt adopted would the regular game get played at the Olympics?

Therein lies your answer to this lafaux game. "Oh, it's lacrosse, they've got sticks and a ball and goals." No it's not, it's lahoops being pushed by some group who have no respect for the game, its tradition and nuances, or beauty of the game, all in the name of growing the game. "Would the regular game be played at the Olympics?" Probably not, because as hell bent on getting "lacrosse" into the Olympics as someone/some group is, the world is not ready for Olympic lacrosse. Anyone care to predict right now who takes home the Gold, Silver, and Bronze if the regular game were played at the next Olympics (I'll go with the US, Canada, and the Iroquois in no particular order on the mlax side, you guys can call the wlax side)? This, IMO, is the reason for this perverted version of our gorgeous game which doesn't require as much skill and makes much more room for error. This is an aberration of a beautiful game, put me in the camp with those who hate it.

I guess we public aren't given too much credit for our capacity to learn rules and handle whistles. The game was booming before the virus hit. Changing the game to make it more palatable is a sad commentary. Obviously someone who doesn't know or appreciate the game made the decision to change it to "grow" it.

As well as can be expected, Doc. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Any D's you might know who can weigh in on this topic?

I think it would if you had the right people "selling" it.

👆 thank you for answering that softball question...I am torn, as I suspect that the answer I would give to that question is very similar to yours. I do not see the beautiful game being part of the Olympics. The version in the OP will.

I cant see anyone who played/coached Defense thinking it is good for the game.

Nope, it's not good for the game but the "pushers" don't care about that part. This is about making the game easier, defense be damned, because the rest of the world isn't good enough yet to compete with the dominate teams (countries). Next they'll just do away with the GKs (you wanna be a keeper in this game?) and make the goals smaller. The team scored upon can then just reach in and get the ball and head down field. Hey, they did away with a jump ball after every basket in hoops so lacrosse sure as hell doesn't need a faceoff after every goal regardless of what that brings to the game, and you don't need a keeper either, just shrink the goal (or would that require too much skill/accuracy for the rest of the world?). You pushers might be able to fool some of the people some of the time...and all that, but there are a bunch of us you're not fooling one little tiny bit. This is about commercialism at the expense of the game, you'll sell the soul and spirit of the game for the almighty buck while stealing the name of the graceful and beautiful game to boot. When you hand out your Gold Medal, have that team do a victory tour in the US and compete with the top D1 teams in the country in a real game of lacrosse and see how golden they look. Maybe that'll help you grow your game, eh?

I agree with the group - fun to watch, especially with that level of talent on the field, but this is not lacrosse. BUT, as long as the Olympic version doesn't interfere with the college/high school game (which we've been making so much progress with!), why does it matter? It should be a priority to get something/anything into the Olympics to increase exposure to the sport not just in the US but worldwide, and this fan-friendly version would accomplish that. This may be common knowledge but it's worth noting that these changes weren't just targeted at making it more accessible to new fans, there were also IOC-mandated considerations about roster sizes, field space, continuity with the men's game, etc. Again, this is NOT lacrosse and personally I would much rather watch a good college or World Cup game than this. But this is better than nothing, and for the purpose of growing the game, it might be better than the college version.
