Because Stevens played a comparatively weaker schedule with few quality wins over ranked opponents.

Loss to Roanoke, lower-tier regionally ranked wins, and relatively weak schedule put them behind the eight ball with limited options if they did not get AQ. It doesn’t appear on the surface that returning to MAC Freedom conference will address those issues. They need to improve their schedule.

Probably won't address those issues, but should make it easier for them to walk away with the AQ. Right now there are no St John Fishers in the MAC Freedom.
