Last nights games were certainly eye-openers and definitely makes it more difficult to predict results. Fairport looked to be the top of Class A, but had to go to OT to beat Thomas, who while now has two recent, competitive one goal losses still has only one win in SecV. Who would expected Penfield fresh off a pallid 7-2 loss to Fairport take down Victor? Then Canandaigua takes a step back with their loss to Pittsford.

Overall, Sec V isn’t as strong as last year, but it’s going to be quite competitive from here-in out with few easy games for any in Class A & B.

Thursday may present the game of the year with Brighton at Victor. Fairport at Canandaigua should also be interesting as well as a number of other games.

Can't take the Penfield out of the IQ resident? :D

A - It looks like Fairport to lose, playing very well right no
B - Brighton looks to be the front runner, will see tomorrow as they play Victor. Victor is down, even with Hay and Pezzimenti, they do not have the depth or the skill level of years past. CA, win a close one to thomas is awful this year, beat penn yan, but lose to pittsford, who is down this year

Competetive games left:
CA has Fairport, Hilton, Victor and Penfield
Victor has Brighton, JD, FM, Corning, CA
Brighton has victor, fairport, irondequoit

It will be an interesting sectionals this year in B

Big night of games all over the place tonight but I would agree w ardilla that the Brighton-Victor contest is the most attractive. Any doubters of Brighton may be swayed tonight should they win.

Geneva hosting PalMac is a sleeper of a good game. PM hasn't been tested since late March so we'll see how they fare in G-town.

Hilton could also take another step forward against Thomas tonight. Sure Thomas looks below their usual standard this year but BLaxFive says they're 23-1 against Hilton over the past 16 years.

Brighton Barons get a sweet one in 12-8 win at Victor.

B 0 3 4 5 - 12
V 2 0 4 2 - 8
Victor started the game with two quick goals and as Brighton sought to find their game the defense tighten up to close the 1stQ down only 2-0. Brighton started to click in the 2ndQ with three unanswered while Victor spent too much time throwing the ball away and even shot wide on a one on one just before the half.

The 3rd and most of the 4thQ was a flurry of back and forth goals. As Victor drew even early Brighton was able to stay a goal or two ahead which is remarkable because Victors fogo Reagan Endres was totally dominating the X and therefore could have dominated possession but turnovers and a tight Brighton defense gave their highly talented offense their chance to keep the Blue Devils chasing the lead. It’s likely that if Victor hadn’t dominated the X then Brighton could have won this game by 16-8. They were unstoppable despite a strong effort by their GK. Brighton’s GK Butcher had a big game himself with 11 saves and it seems like he uses anything including his head, elbows and ankles to make dramatic stops.

Brighton’s win brought on an appropriate celebration for beating a three time state champ as well as their first win over the Devils since 2011.

Before attending the Victor-Brighton affair I was in Canandaigua for their match against Class A leaders Fairport. For the most part this was a close, well played game. Canandaigua's only lead was their first goal inside of the opening minute and outside of an early part of the 3tdQ when the Braves drew even it was Fairport with a one or two goal lead.

Canandaigua got within one at 9:04 of the 4thQ and had possession most of the last few minutes but they could get one by and their last shot was saved by GK Defendis (11s/6g, 65%) inside of the last minute of play. Fairport has a strong midfield and attack, but one issue to be dealt with is that the defense tends to get frantic with clearing when under pressure and It almost cost them against Victor and again with Canandaigua. After that last save they struggled to get the ball across midfield and alertly the bench called a time out. With ball then in possession of Klay Stuver and a give n go with a longstick, he then rock and rolled in for the insurance goal at 0:27 followed by another at 0:06.

F 3 2 2 2 - 9
C 2 1 2 1 - 6

All aboard the Brighton band wagon! The boy's team is matching their girl's success.

And BLN continues to put out quality entertainment.

McQuaid over PY 5-4. Watched game on Varsity Media. Both goalies looked real good, two strong defenses. Well played game.

Made my way out to Victor last night to see what i thought would be a good game. Good for the first quarter and then Victor just outplayed CA. Bellis and Pfiefer were nonexistent. CA lacked the technical skills on D. Victor played sloppily, but still out gunned with Pezzimenti and Hay with assists and Victor D played extremely well. Looks like a Brighton VIctor sectional matchup. Wonder what the next BLN video release will be?

That was a surprising result considering how I watched McQuaid take two OTs to defeat Nichols while PY seemingly took down Nichols recently 9-2.

I was at Victor too. Just 1-0 to Victor after 1Q and in control by victor throughout, though it felt like a close game to the end as both played with great intensity. Stars of the game were Victor fogo Regan Endres 11/16 who allowed his team to hold more possessions. I like him as a fogo as he has the skills and athleticism to do more than just flip the ball to someone and he can take it to the hoop on a fastbreak. The other star is obviously Joey Pezzimenti, 4g 1a, who was difficult to stop. Victor still has issues with unforced turnovers, but seem to be more fluid then earlier in the season. Canandaigua’s problem is that they don’t have a Pezzimenti to take it to the goal. They depend too much on moving the ball around for a shot, then too often their shooting is erratic. I do like their hustle though. Both GK played well, especially the Braves Kenyon 12s/8ga, who undoubtedly faced more shots and pressure.

Though I was at the Victor-CA game on Tuesday, initially I had stopped at Pittsford to see their game against Hilton. I was able to depart that game because the Panthers had seemingly run away wth a 6-0 after one. While Hilton has a statistically strong fogo, he apparently only lost two that night, it didn’t seem to halp the Cadets score or stop Sonny Imburgia who waltzed in for three 1stQ scores.

After a 6-0 lead one would expect to find the final result a total blowout. So, how did Pittsford only manage three more goals the final three quarters? Did Hilton bear down or Pittsford dial it in?

Well Hilton gets another chance against the top Class A team today in Fairport.

Curious times for Class A Hilton as they dominate FO against Pittsford in a 9-3 loss then go 11/21 at the X against Fairport yet hang on to a 9-4 end of 3rdQ lead to get their first ever win against the Raiders, 9-8

That leads us to this weekends locally hosted pairings against non-section opponents which should give us a feel about how Sec V will do in the regional playoffs.

Fairport gets to rebound against undefeated Jamesville Dewitt from Sec 3
Victor gets to test their improvements against the leaders of Sec 3/Class A Fayetteville Manlius
Canandaigua hosts what looks like the probable top of Sec6/Class A Orchard Park

CA mauls OP today. Simply stated it looked like two teams playing at two different speeds. OP really struggled against CA's ride and relentless pursuit of the ball. While the Braves moved the ball on their clears and on O, the Quakers did not. Did not look anything like the OP squads of old. Nice bounce back win by Cdga after 3 straight losses.

At half CA celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the 2009 State Title team. Many former players/coaches of that team were on the field today. Ten years ago there was a great, spontaneous celebration that ended on the courthouse steps. Also great to see Nort involved with that team.

Extraordinary results from this past Saturday. Surprised not just that Victor beat Fayetteville Manlius, but won by 13-4. I think it clear Victor will be a tougher match in the playoffs than their earlier form. Then for Fairport, fresh off a loss to Hilton comes back to win over Jamesville Dewitt. The sectionals should prove interesting.

Thanks Nigel for the video. I was there at the then Salen Stadium for all three games. Was unaware of the hometown reception. That was pretty cool. Remarkable how the Orchard Park program hasn’t been the same recently. As you will recall in that Class A final ten years ago it was Orchard Park playing in the against West Islip. OP and Hamburg used to put up some good teams, but they’re just not the same anymore.

Very nice road win by Cdga last night in Hilton - chased them the whole night and caught them in the end. 7/18 on the FOs is a problem for the Braves however.

Wayne bounced back from their Geneva loss to take down McQ. McQ has got to be disappointed in that result.

Another big challenge for Brighton tonight over at P'ford. Panthers on a nice 4 game run - can Brighton continue to put up their season long double-digit goals against a stingy P'ford defense? Should be quite a few high end SUVs in the parking lot tonight!

VIctor looked impressive, they are beginning to put it all together. It will be a Brighton Victor final in B. CA has too many holes to fill. Fairport still has the edge in A. Just weeks away to playoffs
