Looking at the matchups, it appears (at least on paper) that Battlefield benefited by finishing second behind Patriot in their district. Patriot is playing the higher seed in the second round, and vice versa as it relates to Westfield playing Patriot.

Do the fine folks at the VHSL not understand how this is supposed to work.

The current set up certainly is flawed. Chantilly probably has an easier road than both Oakton and Westfield(depending on how good you believe South Lakes is). I think Patriot and Westfield probably have the most right to be angry as they are two of my and pretty much anyone’s top 5 teams in all of 6A and one will be going home monday. Nonetheless, as a casual viewer I won’t complain, should be a great game!

I don't really don't give two shits who wins that game, I just don't understand how they don't have a full grasp of brackets and how seedings should work. It's a bit JV.

If the goal is to just get into the State Tournament then yes. But if it is to take the Title, it does not matter.

That is nice. I don’t care who wins but I was planning on going and I would like to see a good lacrosse game. I guess I would prefer Westfield winning simply because I have ranked them higher then Patriot all year. Oakton-South Lakes should be a good game too but I wouldn’t be surprised if Oakton blows them out.

The players and coaches gave two shits about the game tonight. Patriot played a heck of a game and our boys did, as well. You could argue that some of the match ups are a bit lopsided, but, that's the way it goes...congrats to Patriot. Good luck to all the teams left in the battle for states.

The Westfield game was the worst officiated game I've seen in a lonnnnng time. They seemed to have issues with the speed and/or physicality of the game. Way too many flags thrown and really odd calls. That crew has no business being on the field the rest of the post season.

Mistakes happen, but their abundance of mistakes had too much impact. In fairness, I haven't seen film of the game. But it sure looked really bad to the entire stadium.

Both teams fought hard and literally went "balls to the wall" till the final buzzer.

Oakton v Patriot should be a good one. Hard to believe both South lakes and Westfield get bounced with no chance for states - luck of the draw I guess. SL battled their hearts out tonight playing with their back up goalie and stayed close with Oakton, with the score 6-6 going into the 4th qtr. Hats off to the Cougs - lotta firepower there. It was a pleasure watching Dodson Piotrowski (Air Force), Stevie Jones (Villanova) and Jackson Cook (Shenandoah) these last 4 yrs at SL. Best of luck to everyone moving on.

Last night in Region D (Region of DEATH) after the Madison Mega-Deaths devoured Stonewall 15-5, we had three slugfests between top level squads with Oakton over South Lakes 9-6, Patriot surviving Westfield 13-12 and Battlefield edging Chantilly 6-4. Spinal Tap wishes the approximately 35 plus all region caliber players who are now turning in their jerseys and lids to their very good coaches a great summer.

Meanwhile, tonight in Region C (Region of CUPCAKES) we have a wonderful slate of delicious pastries. SOCO hosts the TCW Twinkies, West Springfield travels to Colgan for the Battle of the Tastee Cakes, Forest Park (20-8 loss to Patriot, 19-7 loss to Battlefield) is at ROBO LITE where the Oasis will be sponsored by Victoria’s Cakery (10403 Main St, Fairfax). And probably the best game in this bakery, WTW at West Po, could possibly resemble a competitive game between 2 pretty good teams.

The final four is a mix of repeat matchups, with more repeats to come in the Regional Finals and Consolation Game.

I think Oakton and Madison win and meet for the 3rd time in the finals, with Patriot and Battlefield squaring off for a 3rd time for the final spot in the region.

Oakton beat Patriot 11-7, lost to Madison (2x) 8-6 and 11-6, with Patriot beating both Madison (9-6) and Battlefield (8-7), but then losing to Battlefield 10-9, and lastly, Battlefield beating Madison 11-9.

Against the Final Four

Oakton is 1-2
Patriot is 2-2
Madison is 2-2
Battlefield is 2-1

I probably screwed that up some where.

Solid assessment Sir. Oakton and Madison could play for a 4th time in the State Tournament. In 2015 Robinson and Chantilly played I believe 4 times with Robinson only winning the final matchup (the most important one) They made some great adjustments on their face-offs to get the big W.

Moving forward, FO play/success will become a big factor. DeSouza for Oakton dominated at the X v SL. I believe Madison and Patriot have some guns at the X as well. Not sure about Battlefield.

Battlefield also has a great FO committed to Shenandoah. I believe that he will be a major key in battlefields win against Madison.

sguy - Robinson and Chantilly did play 4 times in 2015 and the Rams actually won the regular season game and state championship.

What stands out most from me in these multiple matchups is the impact coaching can have. In 2015, Rams were embarrassed by Chantilly in regional finals as Chantilly long poles ate up Rams O as they tried to set up and run their O. In the state championship Coach Curran, to his credit, changed things up and became much more aggressive and let his team attack the goal. Rams got multiple transition goals including 3 straight goals off the faceoff in about 30 seconds. Without Curran's changes no way Rams win that game. With teams seeing each other so much coaching adjustments do matter.
