My opinion, just that, the “best” NY public team this year was GC.Yet they lost, by 1 to Pequa and twice close to Set. What does that mean? It means they lost!! Set losing to JJ is a terrible loss, relative to what they should be playing at which is top 10 in the country. Is JJ better than Set? I would say no, despite the head to head. H2H is very over blown.
"Set losing to JJ is a terrible loss"? Really? Do I think it was an upset? Yes, I do. Yes, they lost to Set in the first game of their season by 6, without one of the Fords, but it was a team that clearly got better at the end of the season. But JJ was 20-3, no bad losses, Lost by 2 to an in form Victor team (goalie had 19 saves, huge faceoff advantage, in I believe their 5th straight title game appearance), beat SWR and CSH, Yorktown, Wilton, Ridgefield. A little respect, please.

And H2H is very overblown? That's just a silly statement, in my opinion. Is it the be all and end all? Of course not. But it matters, if not, tell me what matters more. Set was a better team than GC, they beat them twice. Period. If they played 3 more times, could GC win all 3? Yup. But they had two chances, and Set won.
“Terrible” was a poor choice of words and does indeed sound demeaning to JJ, which I did not intend. Apologies for that. As for H2H being overblown, well, does this result not support that? Set won very comfortably in the first game, would that not suggest they were comfortably the better team? And yet they lost round 2. Of course H2H has meaning and outside of common opponents and playing similar teams can be the only way to compare 2 teams. However, when there is as much overlap in schedule and quality of opponents as these teams have, the totality of their performance can really provide a more in depth and nuanced feel for their relative strengths than one H2H meeting.

No need to apologize, I didn't take it as a slam, more of an oversight. At the time, in the first game of JJ"s season, yes, Set was the better team. But as the season progressed, JJ got demonstrably better, as a team that lost a ton of seniors last year gelled, and got some key players back. Yorktown also beat JJ comfortably in the beginning of the season, and JJ beat them at the end as well.
I agree with your point that the totality of teams performance gives an indication of who they are as a team for the season. And in that measure, Set is a better team than JJ. But as you know, teams peeking at the right time matters, especially in playoffs as competitive as NY's. Victor is another example of a team that's season looked good, but really put it together down the stretch.

No effing way stick 's coming back. He finally talked me into joining him and so many other former Laxpower folks to use texting in lieu of posting. One his reasons was that no one cared about anything we Yanks had to say.

Come on... We Long Island guys need to support each other. Whether we're Section VIII or Section XI.

I see that Cold Spring Harbor is a D team by the numbers this year. If they do not or can not “play up” (not the best year to do it in Long Island C) they should be a strong threat in D.

That would be ambitious of them. They would have to get by Manhasset and Mt. Sinai (or SWR) just to get off the Island.

Accuweather has a long term forecast right now of 80 degrees and sun.

Maybe the Garden City Pool will have some available swim time for lax fans?

At the half in a battle of undefeated teams. (It’s on You Tube).

Mt. Sinai 6
SWR 2

Either, but especially Mt. Sinai a tough out for anyone…anyone.
