Excited for the Towson v Cornell Game and the Penn State v Cornell Games this weekend. I think Towson might look past Jacksonville and have a little trap game, but will get through it in a 2-3 goal win. Cornell is 37% at the Face-off X this year. They can run into big problems this weekend if they cant capitalize on the possessions they have.

They beat Hobart 18-17 in OT. This was when the D II & D III championship was combined.

Duke beat Loyola tonight 11-7, so that accounts for some of your prediction.
It looks like you are predicting Cornell to lose to both PSU and Towson this weekend.
Denver to beat Notre Dame - although that would probably put Denver in front of Maryland.

Villanova lost to Penn, so they probably won't be #8.
PSU beat Cornell.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Penn get a couple of bottom top 20 votes despite their 1-3 record. Best 1-3 record in the country.

Notre Dame beat Denver 10-7, keeping ND in the top 10
Villanova lost to Drexel, knocking Villanova out of consideration for the top ten for sure
Towson is losing to Cornell badly
OSU beat Hofstra 14-8
Maryland beat Albany 14-9.
Yale is pounding Michigan.
Penn State still has to play Jacksonville.

OSU is the only undefeated team, but probably doesn't have the wins to be #1. Then you have a bunch of 1-loss teams.
So something like
1 Yale
2 Duke
3 PSU
4 Cornell
5 Towson
6 Notre Dame
7 Maryland
8 Ohio State
9 Loyola
10 Denver
11 HIgh Point
12 Virginia
I would choose Duke as #1 myself, but there is a lot of luv for Yale these days.

Yale had a solid win over Michigan and didn't hurt themselves, but I think Duke's win over Loyola (Duke's second top-5 win) will give the Blue Devils the rankings edge to jump to #1. I also think that after Cornell's thumping of Towson, Penn State's win over Cornell becomes even more valuable currency. Here's my guess at the top 10 (heavily weighting, and probably overweighting the Sunday results -- it may be crazy to think Towson would drop out of the top 5):
1 Duke
2 Yale
3 Penn State
4 Cornell
5 Notre Dame
6 Towson
7 Maryland
8 Ohio State
9 UVA
10 Loyola

I think you both make good points. Another hard to predict weekend, which makes it more fun.

I would rank them:

1 Penn State (5 - 1) beat Cornell & Jacksonville
2 Duke (6 - 1) beat Loyola
3 Yale (3 - 1) beat Michigan
4 Cornell (4 - 1) beat Towson, lost to PSU
5 Towson (5 - 1) lost to Cornell
6 Notre Dame (3 - 1) beat Denver
7 Maryland (6 - 1) beat Albany
8 Ohio State (6 - 0) beat Hofstra
9 Loyola (4 - 2) lost to Duke
10 High Point (6 - 1) beat UMBC
11 Denver (4 - 2) lost to ND
12 Virginia (4-2) beat Brown OT
13 Syracuse (3 - 2) beat JHU
14 Georgetown (6 - 1) beat Fairfield
15 Richmond (4 - 3) beat VMI
16 Navy (4 - 2) beat Lafayette
17 Rutgers (4 - 2) beat Princeton
18 Army (4 - 2) lost Lehigh
19 Villanova (3-3) lost to Penn & Drexel
20 Johns Hopkins (2 - 3) lost to Syracuse
21 Colgate (3-2) beat BU

Yale beat Penn State. Small matter but I'd say swap their spots.

Inside Lacrosse had them tied for 4th last week.

4 Penn State (6 - 1) 444 5
4 Yale (3 - 1) 444 4

I would think PSU has a better chance to move up with a win over Cornell, than Yale's win over Michigan. But, it is probably more appropriate to show them tied again. Their results against Villanova in back to back weeks makes it more complicated to rank them.

Yale's only top tier win is PSU. Lost to Villanova.
PSU has top tier wins against Villanova, Penn, and Cornell. I think most consider Penn a top tier win despite their record.

Towson, Cornell, & Penn State's losses all came against top 5 teams, so I think one of them should be number 1 this week.

You can make a case for Ohio State, being the only undefeated, but they really have not been tested. If they beat Denver next weekend, they should get the top stop.

All the other 1-loss teams have Ls from much lower ranked teams.

Duke does have the 2 nice wins over Loyola and Denver, and High Point, their loss, is around #10.
Notre Dame also has 2 nice wins over UMd and Denver.
I don't know that one can ignore the wins.

Villanova losing twice this past week, took away a good win for PSU and made Yale's loss to Villanova look worse.

The polls tend to be an almalgum of a team's body of work modified by recent results, the more recent the more meaningful, along with a dash of respect for a program's legacy. Penn State was definitely better than Cornell on Friday, and Cornell was definitely better than Towson on Sunday, all with one loss, so I'd be surprised if those three don't show up in the various polls in that order. Duke with the longest winning streak outside of Ohio State carries some weight. Yale has benefitted from being the reigning national champ along with the preseason and in-season hype that goes along with it, which in the minds of the some pundits lends weight to it's narrow victory against PSU. Maryland gets the benefit of the doubt for getting into the final four for as long as anyone can remember. Looking forward to the reactions that come out tomorrow morning when the polls do.

I think Maryland gets a little plus from Notre Dame beating Denver out on the West Coast. Last week, Maryland dropped for losing to Notre Dame in ot out in Notre Dame's indoor stadium. With ND winning over Denver that loss doesn't look particularly bad.
