Ivy League Standings & Predictions

#6 Penn 5-3 (3-0)
Brown 4-5 (2-0)
#5 Yale 6-2 (2-1)
Harvard 5-4 (1-1)
#10 Cornell 6-3 (1-2)
Dartmouth 2-6 (0-2)
Princeton 3-6 (0-3)

Cornell @ Harvard -- Crimson is surging off 3 straight wins. Cornell isn't looking like a team that deserved their #2 national ranking only a couple of weeks ago. Cornell is also beginning a gauntlet of 4 straight road games at Harvard, Syracuse, ND and Brown. Harvard pulls out the upset 17-15 behind another outstanding goalie performance and a 60% win rate at the FO X.

Dartmouth @ Yale -- Despite 20 saves from Ben Hincks, Dartmouth won't be able to hang with the Elis for long. Yale for the W, 17-9

Penn @ Brown -- Battle between the only undefeated teams in the Ivies. Could this be the signature win that has eluded Daly? During alumni weekend at Brown State, no less? Tough pick, but (homer alert!) I am going with Brown, 15-14.

Princeton @ Stony Brook (6-4) -- Princeton received votes in this week's media poll at 3-6. Hmm. Does NJ Lax Mom's Weekly have a vote in the poll?!?! Tigers regroup from a tough Brown loss to pull out a 12-10 win.

Can Opener - I like your Brown pick :-)

I wouldn't put it past Harvard either, but I'd be surprised. Agree on Yale/PU.

Excellent post CO.

Only issue is your username ... “Can Opener”??? Really?!? What’s the matter, was “Vacuum Cleaner” or “Place Setting” already taken?!? ;)

Anywho ... with Harvard “surging,” can it be 1912 again? :o

Ah ... thanks for the clarification!

Is there a video on the “place setting” stick check?

Your guess is as good as mine, but I don't think Harvard puts up 17 against Cornell. Crimson hasn't scored that many against anybody this year and only Penn State has scored more than 16 against Big Red. I do expect a close game with Cornell on top. Looks like 60 degrees at game time, although field will be wet from overnight rain. A great day for lacrosse!

Cornell @ Harvard, the battle of the two teams whose only Ivy win is over Dartmouth. Given the remaining conference games on Harvard's schedule, and Cornell's 1-2 conference record, this looks to be a very important game for both teams' ILT pretensions. I'll agree with the part about Cornell scoring 15 goals, but I expect the Big Red to show both their talent and their mental toughness in prevailing 15-11.

Definitely some interesting contests tomorrow, looking forward to it! The only one I'm confident in calling is Yale over Dartmouth, the rest could go either way, which is awesome!

But here we go:

Yale 18 over Dartmouth 4
Eli's looking to get back on track in the Ivy's

Penn 15 over Brown 10
Love Brown's win last week, but Penn's a buzzsaw right now and I don't think the Bears are going to slow them down.

Cornell 14 over Harvard 12
I feel the Big Red are just too much for Harvard.

Princeton 12 over Stony Brook 11
This one is crazy. Stony Brook has proven they can beat "good" teams, but losses to Hartford and Sacred Heart keep things confusing. I'll stick with the Ivy League on this one.

Hard to argue too much with these picks. Basically in line in line with how Vegas would handicap these games. The problem is that we haven’t had a single Ivy weekend go according to plan. Someone will probably get upset, but other than Yale we just don’t know who.

As regards the Yale "lock" over Dartmouth, we don't have to look further than last years 2-7 UMBC knocking off the undefeated (I believe it was 9-0) Albany team at about this point in conference play to find the model for an upset of such proportions were the Big Green to somehow manage the feat. I'm too much of a homer to even consider betting against the Bulldogs no matter how high the odds, but even with exorbitant odds of greater than 100:1 I wouldn't advise anyone to risk significant money on such an outcome. Nonetheless it does seem pertinent to point out that the possibility exists. As for the other games I will be keeping a sharp eye on how everyone is playing, expecting Penn and Cornell to prevail (as well as Princeton, but we all know OOC hardly matters any more now that the real dog fight has begun), but perfectly willing to jump ship should the need arise. Both Brown and Harvard appear to have enough talent to be able to keep things in doubt should they manage to hang around. Both have excellent goalies ( as does Dartmouth) and we all know how much outstanding goalie play can impact a game in terms of neutralizing a projected talent advantage. Anyway, things should be interesting from here on out. Let the best teams prevail, and let everyone stay healthy.

Glad we can make you laugh!... after all "laughter is the best medicine"!

It's just for fun, give me a break... additionally, with our limited Ivy League schedule of games each weekend to predict, it gives us a variable for differentiation instead of just saying "I pick Yale to win over Dartmouth".

Good luck to all the teams and players this weekend! And would love to see a Big Green upset, but won't predict it.

Cornell 14 at Hvd 10... BR has been there so has greater incentive to prevent IL season slipping away.

Yale whatever they want Dart 7... no haven in New Haven

Brown 14 UPenn 12... Ever True, home cookin'

Princeton 15 at StonyBrook 11... it's non-league so why not

Well RumorMill did correctly predict the exact score of Cornell-Dartmouth last week!

Meanwhile it's Dartmouth-Yale 4-4 at the end of Q1 ...

CU77, I just checked out your SI vault links. Good stuff! I love a good history lesson. I'll have to see if I can find any more lacrosse stuff on their site.
