It does appear that UMd needed a different strategy against UVa. Just try to keep scoring goals.
In the end, it was probably UMd's failure at the Face-off X that really killed them.

On to next year.
Hopefully, Shockey will get back in his groove, and the new kid Calderone will be able to contribute right away on face-offs.
I'm a little concerned about the defense - long pole situation going to next year.
Offense looks strong with Bernhardt, Wisnauskas, Fairman, A.DeMaio and Long back.
It's enjoyable getting feedback from other knowledgable fans. If it weren't for Towson's stall ball tactic the face-off situation would have bitten Maryland last week.
I'm not saying Tillman's a bad coach he just believes in a bad tactic.
Tillman deserves credit for a great game plan against a more talented team, up until he tried to run it out. UVA is either the most talented offensive team in the country, or a close #2, and they couldn't score in a settled situation for about 55 minutes.

Bottom line is that Maryland was not going to win the national championship this year, not with Ierlan still out there to win 100% of the face-offs and with so many uncharacteristic weaknesses for a Maryland team.

Congrats to seniors Dubick, Corley, O'Connell, Zawadski, Brozowski et al who broke through for the trophy 2 years ago (and to Dolan for saving the season last week). All great Terps.

I should add.
Yet another thrill a minute game involving the Terps.

I have no love for the terps (my 7 year old son cried when wide-open-on-the-crease Heacock knocked out our bears in '16 in OT), but man, that's a tough way to go out. That was 100% not a goal. UMD had a few lapses end of game, but that botched call was the nail in the coffin.

Certainly a "Brokedown Palace" moment for the Terps.

Supposedly, last in.
Almost made it to the Final Four.
I think that puts any doubts to rest.

Obviously, taking the air out ... last week ... Nadelen with the same mistake.
it was the right move to burn clock. they failed to execute in other areas of the game.

refs were brutally cruel in their timing to blow a call.
I think you are probably right. If the Terps had won just one of those face-offs going down to the wire, the stalling plan probably would have worked.
In the end, the Terps problems reared their ugly head in the last few minutes - inconsistent facing-off, and lack of a lockdown/takeaway defense.

But in the end it failed. For Towson last week and for Maryland today. Stall Ball failed.

Agreed Sativa.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Refs also blew the Bernhardt "good goal" on his dive...his foot was clearly on the crease circle when he launched himself. So, I'd say it evened out..

No because UVA also scored a goal while being offsides.

Stall ball only becomes effective if you can maintain possession, especially with two evenly matched teams. Md should have played to their strength and continued to press the offense. I agree that a different call at the end may have validated stall ball, but so would have an additional goal or two validated the offensive push

Are we just going to ignore the missed offsides call on UVA's 4th goal, too, then? Because UVA's player was running back to get onside when the ball was being shot.

Yep, even Steven....

#1 getting away with two crease violations in two games. Did any one ask him how he felt about the 3 controversial call? Also How fast is this game?

Wasn’t very impressed by the officials on several key plays. Seems they came up short on the most crucial plays. Was very unimpressed with MDs late game strategy but it might have worked.

In the paper today Tillman apparently asked the ref if they were sure about the goal. Said he didn’t have a good view. Ref said yes or THEY would not have made the call. For getting I suppose one of them signaled a reset on the shot clock

Kudos to Tillman and his players for their amazing class and maturity regarding the call. No bitching, no whining, no tirade. As Fairman said, it was just "let's get the next one". They didn't, but they represented themselves and the University of Maryland very well. Kudos to UVA and move on.

Don't even really have to imagine what the sideline scene would have been like had it happened to Denver, Notre Dame or Hopkins. Heck, there are still fans of a team left out of the tournament 2 weeks ago that can't get over their egregious omission.

Agree with Tillman and team response being an example of true class. Likely to be the best way to move on.

Watching Lars Tiffany post game made me sick. First he cried about Jared being on the line on the dive play, then he said no one on his sidelines knew about the controversial goal, and then he said he didn't believe in replay. Of course not. because had there been replay the Hoos would have lost. Makes me sick. Of course Tiilman handled the whole situation with class as he always does.

Hats off to our tremendous Seniors. Corley was the backbone of this team, Brozowski had a superb year as LSM, Dubick was spectacular at attack, etc. Of course Danny Dolan kept this team in so many games and consistently came through in the clutch.

At the end of the day 8 quarterfinals in 9 years and 7 final fours, 5 finals and a natty in Tillman's 9 years is incredible. #Be the best.

Tiffany always makes me feel a little sick. Probably will cause me to root for the other team on Saturday. Of course, overall I am pulling for Penn State.

There were some nice things for Terp fans this Spring. Bernhardt emerging as a star, (the speed with which he gets to the goal in the open field is awesome), Wisnauskas with his big shots and timely passing. Fairman with his 2-way play, A.DeMaio breaking through as a top offensive midfielder, Puglise with timely goals and hard play, Dubick coming through with well-timed cuts for goals, Makar developing into a top defenseman and Corley's hard-nosed play. A lot of nice stuff.

Much of the season was pretty good. The big wins over Villanova and UNC perhaps being the peak. The loss to a talented UVa team at the very end was perhaps not so bad, but it will always be tough to swallow the two, not very close, losses to Hopkins in less than a week's time.

Just want to say How impressed I was by the composure and class showed on that Goal play. Shows why UMD has been so successful recently.

For getting I suppose one of them signaled a reset on the shot clock Just an FYI, the Ref signaling the reset isn't supposed to be watching ball in the goal, he needs to be following the shooter and making sure there are no late hits.
