Throw the ball down and not allow guys to use the back of their sticks to withhold the ball. This will improve tempo and created more unsettled play in the middle of the field.
Like a hockey FO? Sounds fun/fast/contested/chaotic ... I like it
Yes. Just throw it down quickly and let the scramble ensue.....the bounce of the ball adds some variety and makes it more unpredictable.
I do this occasionally in practices during small sided games on restarts OOB or just to have fun.....but be careful when you do drop it. The sticks are flying and I have been hit, not safe for the guy dropping it.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Yes, and then your new Face Off Specialist will be a 250 lb lineman, who's only job is to win that scrum and get the ball to one of his wingers or goalie... the new face of FOGO's.

Whatever "new" rule or procedure someone thinks about putting in place, good coaches will develop a specialist to take advantage of it. Current face off procedure is awesome as it is now. No need to change because someone isn't happy that the other teams fogo is better than theirs. And as UVA proved, good defense and goalkeeping can still rule the day!

Make the FOGO go down, set and drop ball. Put on some shin guards.

We also did butt to butt and place the ball between their backs. Forces position first and GB practice.

AreaLax wrote: Wed May 29, 2019 6:56 pm Here are rules for the new PLL
● The face-off area will consist of two lines at midfield (6-inches apart along a 4-inch line) good idea

● Face-off players will position their sticks along the lines outlined on the diagram below

● Sticks will line up with the ball closer to the top of the headreally good idea

● After the whistle and clamp, wing players are permitted to use their sticks to dislodge the ball from a face-off lockup. e.g. Wing players can poke and/or rake the ball out, but cannot body-check a face-off player. Standard infractions apply (push and/or slash)The Beast made it clear, this will have very little impact...ball will be coming out cleanly

● Once the ball is clamped, the player has one step to remove the ball from the back of the stick. This must be performed in one continuous motionlove this

● If a player commits an illegal procedure foul prior to the faceoff, the opposing team will be awarded possession, and the infracting player will be prohibited from participation in the next face-offlove this

● Hands are not permitted on the head of the stick at any point duh!!

● Ball is placed before the players enter their stance. The official’s verbal queue will be “down, set” followed by blowing the whistle
Some of these rules may make sense for D1....give it a year or two and see how it works out.

And it's funny that FIL let's the fogo keep it in the back of their head all the way to the goal! I don't have a problem watching that either.

I'm kinda liking the face-off men back to back with the ball between them.

That's a little too hokey for me but the hockey FO drop concept seems interesting as it creates 3v3 GB chaos. Great GB teams will gain an advantage but that's fine:; it's a "team-earned" advantage.

Agree, it should be a gb, and NOT someone pinching the ball and picking it up in the back of the stick..

There's not a reason in the world why a lacrosse stick needs to be made out of a flexible material. Make them out of a material that doesn't bend and twist, then you have to clamp and scrape. Pinch and pop is BS to begin with, no way you should be able to do that with a lacrosse stick. You'd do away with the circling crab dance too, which seems to me to either be holding or witholding the ball from play. No way two guys should be tied up like that for as long as they are.

i'm no polymer expert, but wouldn't plastic or any other material, if not pliable (if that's the word), be much more prone to breaking?

Breakage was my first thought as well. The old heads seemed to break the first day of the season. Heads now seem to last way longer....
