Reshuffled Heels lineup clicked against Duke. Can they pull off another upset against UVA?

yes they can. they will win the goalie war. 'hoos gotta win faceoffs and not reboot their turnover fetish.

wgdr is right on point. If they had won a few more FO's and allowed the D to rest a little, they would have won. The reffing was bad but it was not the reason they lost. Their shot placement was weak at times and the SSDM's clearing was a little shaky. It stinks as they were 3-3 on EMO until the last two times. I would love a shot at them in the ACC tourney.

UNC's NC in 2016 should be warning enough that if this team can get into the NCAAT, they are capable of going deep.

UNC looks like a completely different squad with Johnson in goal, they should match up well with Cuse if they can win some faceoffs

I think the baby Heels will play inspired lacrosse on alumni weekend and beat Cuse by 1-2 goals. Not sure they can beat ND in Arlota, but then again they would probably benefit the most by playing the play-in game and wining that to help their SOS. They are certainly playing better the last few games. Lets see what they can do in the next 3 games. It will not be an easy task, never is this time of year...

Im thinking this year's team is much more like the 2017 team where they had to win the ACC tournament to get into the NCAA. The 2016 Championship team lost to Syracuse in the first round of the ACC tourney but still made the NCAA based on the quality of their in-season wins.

Have you ever seen a quarter so badly played as the Heels did in Q4 yesterday versus UVA?

Tiffany had roiled his sideline by trading Rode for Burkinshaw (hail mary to save Burkinshaw for next season is my call), and then Burkinshaw let in every shot thrown at him in Q3 (he was credited with 6 saves, but I swear I didn't see one). All the Heels had to do was shoot the ball, but their Q4 FOGO wing play was almost stupendously bad even as their FOGO was playing even with UVA's.

The calamity seemed to engulf itself as nearly every player made some bad play (argh, why teams go to the last seconds on the shot clock to do a dodge is unfathomable) or half-arsed effort at a GB. I think Matthews is a fine player, but he must look inward today to recognize that the UVA player who checked the ball out of his stick for the loose ball at the end leading to the winning goal simply wanted the ball more. Breschi's sideline body language was demoralizing to his squad.

The Heels had this game sewn up...12-8 going into the 4th, against a goalie that could not save a shot and a team wondering what their coach was doing. No excuse for losing this game.

PB, I agree with a lot of what you had to say. Even though there were moments that make me optimistic about the next couple of seasons, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory seemed to be what defined the 2019 Heels.
