Re: Best Examples Of DI Coaches Who Do More With Less?

Corrado of Villanova. Not a fully funded program, less then stellar facilities yet he gets the recruits, consistently in the top 20 and regularly has wins against a few top 10 teams.

Re: Villanova 2024

While it might be a little early to be picking at the bones of Cabrini. I was wondering if moving the team from the Villanova football field to the Stadium at Cabrini has been discussed. There would probably need to be more stands built but itis a soccer lacrosse field. So I trying to decide if that...

Re: Is Lacrosse an "Aristocrat Sport?"

I find it ironic that the former head of Harvard is talking about Aristocracy between the millions Harvard makes off its endowments, the high tuition barrier, and the pristine campus in Boston, it is a nice little kingdom. I am not sure how 50 kids out of 8000 are the issue. On my short time on this...

Re: MOUNT ST MARYS 2023

Fundraising for scholarships? That’s not how it works in the slightest.
Umm that is exactly how Villanova did it. The booster club and alumni raised the money to fund lacrosse scholarships.

Re: MOUNT ST MARYS 2023

the alumni want “Someone who is a Mount alum”
Shouldn't the Alumni be out fund raising for scholarships so the next coach can succeed instead of fighting the battles Gravante had?

The Mount had a 42% win ratio the past 28 years maybe its time they bring some new blood in.

Re: MOUNT ST MARYS 2023

Thanks for the chart 10stone5, I'd say what I found more interesting is the schools below the MACC schools. They have consistently been to the tournament and are spending more then twice as much. So 2 questions 1) I want to be a D1 coach is the Mount a good choice. Limited Resources Harder Recruitin...

Re: MOUNT ST MARYS 2023

How Many Scholarships does the Mount have? I'm sure that would be one of the first questions any preceptive coach will ask. Recruiting is a huge part of the job and getting good talent requires money. It would make it a much less attractive position. Think buying a Bentley on a Kia budget. how many ...

D3 Roster Size

Thought I'd take this subject out of Coaching Carousel Few thoughts. First when you say roster you need to consider the parts of the whole. There are many different positions. Here is a quick breakdown for a starting team: Fogo (2) Goalie (2) Long D Pole (5) Long Mid Pole (2) SSMD (4) 2 Way Mids (2)...

Re: Coaching Carousel 2023 - D3

What is an appropriate roster size for a lacrosse team? I would think the schools that have vacancies would have a sense of urgency...... since the summer recruiting season has already began My observation is the average is between 45-50. Weaker programs usually have less then 45 while stronger pro...

Re: MAC 2023

What an absolute beat down in the Freedom side today. Stevens almost dropped 30 on Arcadia. Are the ducks for real? I'd have to go with they are the Big Fish in a small pond. They were soundly beat the two times they played ranked competition. With their transfer portal acquisition and recruiting I...

Re: Eye Black

For 2023 the NFHS made Eye Black in all high school sports a point of emphasis. In the past it was the responsibility of the official to check before games and have it cleaned up. This year they made it a time serving penalty and shifted responsibility for enforcing to the coaches who certify their ...

Re: Eye Black

I believe you are quoting the high school rule which is a point of emphasis for 2023. I do not know of any such rule in College and based on some of the fun eye black patterns I have seen it probably isn't a rule and the ref applied the high school rule to a college game.

Re: Princeton versus Maryland

Lets not forget Maryland's D side it is pretty damn good. With the Goal tending, Stong D, very efficient Clearing and Strength at the face off "X" Princeton will need to find ways to possess the ball, add Maryland's Offense holdingthe ball and the shot clock. I'd say Princeton have to have...

Re: D1 vs D3. What’s the difference

Ok. Your last comment tells me enough about your college lacrosse knowledge. No teams carry 75 kids. 3rd line middies at Salisbury and Tufts are elite Sorry just feel like throwing some gas of this exciting thread. Team don't carry 75 (Most D 1 schools have close to 50) but a lot of D3 teams carry ...

Re: D1 vs D3. What’s the difference

When saying the" bottom half of D1" it is not an apples to apples comparison to D3. The bottom half is playing the top half of D1 some of the best Lax athletes there are. They may not look as good because of that alone. For example compare the Lions or Browns vs the Chiefs or Rams. The ath...

Re: D1 vs D3. What’s the difference

This just popped in my head. There is a recent actual example of D3 vs D1. Last year Cabrini a recent National Champion played the University of Penn in the only game Penn had last year. The score was Penn 23 Cabrini 9. Cabrini started off strong in first quarter put then Penn shook off the cob webs...

Re: D1 vs D3. What’s the difference

I am on the side that this is a pointless exercise. It is an argument similar to can a College team beat a NFL team. You ask any D3 coach at a summer tournament who the top Recruits ( D1) are and they will tell you. Why because they know it is pointless to pursue them and better to put their recruit...

Re: How are College lacrosse Refs graded?

Completely out of his element. He had 2 more senior officials with him, but the mistakes were painful. Give the ref a break, it is a process moving up, the talent gets better and the speed increases, The ref would not be on the field if they didn't think he could develop which is why he had 2 senio...
