Re: College hazing

... Again, what has impressed me is when the "responsibilities' are flipped...it's the upper classmen, including the "stars" who shoulder it. Freshmen can be expected to pitch in to help, as they see the opportunity to do so and give a good impression. And culture is built... I think...

Re: College hazing

You can argue Cornell had no choice but to fire Deluca because of the hazing incident in the previous year that resulted in a students death. Optics may have been bad to keep him on. But the way he was treated during his dismissal was pathetic. They treated him like he was at the party pouring booz...

Re: College hazing

Cornell Athletics has an official policy against hazing, and rumor has it that Coach Ben Deluca was fired because the team engaged in hazing. (The administration was silent about the reason, so it's not clear if he condoned or even knew about the hazing.) OTOH, magazine articles about Cornell's long...

Re: Cornell 2024

I just noticed that the NC$$ has replaced the Volunteer Coach position with a second Assistant Coach position . But Cornell still has Willie Klan listed as a volunteer . Since Klan played GK, he must have had some influence on Ierlan's improvement (IMHO) this season. Does anyone know if Klan (or som...

Re: Most Painful Loss You Have Witnessed Involving Your Favorite Program?

NoLeft You reference the 1976 final between Cornell and Maryland. For many many years, the game was referred to "as the greatest lacrosse game ever played." Before an SRO crowd in Brown's football stadium, Cornell won 16-13 in OT. You are correct, Cornell did take the lead late in the 4th...

Re: Cornell 2024

... Perfetto-- Excellent player at Manhasset who perhaps was a bit in the shadow of others there. He played a little x attack when Long was out, as well as up top on emo, but his playing time seemed to decrease over time as Coyle took over the quarterback role. I agree he is a great candidate to ma...

The PLL. He was the first pick in the draft.
Does the PLL pay enough, even for its #1 pick, that he won't need another job too?

Re: Cornell 2023

I agree with what VRR wrote about Davis doubling unnecessarily. My point was to highlight Staub having a teachable & learning moment. Davis did too. To this I might also add Blake hitting the pipe just before the end of regulation, although I think most players would take the same shot. In the f...

Re: Tewaaraton Finalist

Looks like the only college player on Team USA wraps it up with a good game Monday. I guess there is some justice if he does; UVA’s recruiting is just absurdly good, they need to share the goods. UVA by my count has the #1 recruits of Shellenberger, Millon, and Duenkel; Duke has O’Neill. Cuse has S...

Re: Cornell 2023

Just to make a point, last year IL ranked Brendan Staub the #12 recruit in the country and #4 among defenders . He was also named Best Player in Nassau County by Nassau County Lacrosse Coaches Association . Yet last week we lost the Michigan game when he lost track of his man. The the announcers men...

Re: Cornell 2023

VRR and I have already had this conversation about team speed off line, having reached the same conclusion fairly simultaneously. There are, of course, other determinants of success besides speed such as strength, skill, athleticism, heart, leadership, etc., but speed is up there in importance and ...

Re: Cornell 2023

I did have Tully at the end— he is excellent. We also have another great goalie coming the following year. Yes, several of the Ivies have very good recruiting classes. There are great players all over the country and we and the rest of the league are getting our share. Sorry. I overlooked Tully at ...

Re: Cornell 2023

Thanks, VRR & AF. Very astute observations, as usual. To AF's look ahead at the incoming class, I'd add two things. Most important is to add incoming Matthew Tully to the list. IL rates him as the #3 GK in the class of 2023. IL's analysis is worth a read. My other point is that, while we have an...

Big Red picked to be upset by 2 of six here: https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/staff-debate-which-seeded-team-should-be-on-upset-alert-/61456 I don’t see it. Tournament experience is the underrated intangible factor. Massey still predicts Cornell by two. I don't know who's correct, but I can't...

Re: Cornell 2023

Looking ahead to next year, who'll take Adler's place? Staub looks as if he can handle the job.The depth on the current is good. How about one of the incoming recruits? Only two close D are listed as incoming, and the current roster lists 3 first-year, 1 sophomore, & 2 juniors at defense (includi...

Re: Michigan at Cornell

Boehm is Michigan's highest scoring player. He's played in everyone of Michigan's games this year. In M's six losses this year he went: UVA (1,0) Marq (1,3) ND (1,1) JHU (0,2) Rut (4,1) PSU (0,0) Michigan lost every game in which he scored 2 or fewer points. Curious: Who are the best close D's he's ...

Re: Ivy League 2023

Out of curiosity, if you are willing to say it publicly, what kind of number would need for an endowment to be the primary funding source for the team? 5% of $20mm is $1MM, which would likely be enough? More than just "primary"? Or would $30mm be needed? Endowed coaching positions are $5m...
