Re: Cornell 2024
My expectation is that it's time to move on from 2024 and that this will be my final post until the Fall. 1) faircornell - RE: your post referencing goalie as the game difference I have to disagree. Carroll was really good, but don't be at all misled by what is frequently a misleading statistic - sh...

Re: Cornell 2024
FMUBart - a few things -I did not say that Cornell didn't have the talent to dodge - from anywhere...let alone behind the net (though I do believe that Goldstein seemed to defer to others a bit more recently. Ironic, because he always looked dangerous on Friday, covered by a pole or not). What I wro...

Re: Cornell 2024
Some interesting discussion on previous posts. 'But keep in mind - when comparing teams/analyzing games, keep matchups in mind. I watched most of today's Princeton-Penn game and it reinforced something I referenced after the first Cornell-Penn game in March. Penn has some excellent cover defenders a...

Re: Cornell 2024
Took another commuter-like flight from FL up for the game. Despite high expectations, it was a very disappointimg loss. While the boys, as always, worked hard, they were outplayed in every aspect of the game (O, D, extra-man, FO + a great game by Carroll); too many mental errors as well. A tough way...

Re: Cornell 2024
Not to be redundant with prior posts, but here's my take on the implications of last night's games: -Denver was always in, whether as an AQ or at large. No harm no foul. I initially wanted Georgetown to beat Providence; later regretted it, as if Georgetown had been upset, they probably would have be...

Re: Cornell 2024
Looking Ahead: -Based on current RPI and geographic proximity, there's a good chance that Cornell will play Penn State in State College if they both win their first conference tournament game. If Cornell wins and PSU loses, the venue would probably be reversed. Personally, I've always thought that p...

Re: Cornell 2024
As expected, given the importance of the game (i.e., ILT seed and the potential for an at large bid if they don't win the AQ), the boys came to play and took care of business. It was however, a game that I can only describe as both strange and sloppy. Strange in that watching on-line it didn't seem ...

I'm told by a reliable source that the team left yesterday at 11AM.

Re: Cornell 2024
I don't mean to put the ultimate jinx on the Big Red, but there is virtually no chance that Dartmouth will win this game. I'm that confident in the coaches and players. A "trap game" is a game against an underdog, but credible team. Not one that is outgunned personnel-wise and 0-5 in the I...

Re: Cornell 2024
CU77 - you are correct on the head-to-head.
It is in the listed selection criteria. I had previously read an erroneous post.
If it comes down to splitting hairs between Cornell and Yale, this could be to Cornell's benefit.
Not so for Denver, if Georgetown win an AQ.

Re: Cornell 2024
I think you guys may have misinterpreted my post. Long is definitely back next year (I read somewhere that he worked at Delbarton when he withdrew). As is Kelleher. And Kirst. It also appears of the three Canadians who entered the same year, only Cook is leaving, as presumably Dalton and Graham with...

Re: Cornell 2024
Whether through graduation or the transfer portal, Blake and Wirtheim were/are not returning. Which leads to a related topic - take a look at next year's graduating class. Yikes. It's full of what I'll call program-foundation players. This year's freshman class is excellent, including a highly unusu...

Re: Cornell 2024
A few additional observations/comments from my initial post-game post: -I don't think I've ever seen a game with more 'in the crease' calls. The good news is that most of them were on Harvard (though Nikolic had a goal wiped out). -Something to clean up - Cornell lost 2 offensive possessions on 2 fa...

Re: Cornell 2024
A very credible performance in a game that mattered. A few overarching thoughts: -The defense stayed connected, rarely overextended, and was very judicious with their shows and slides. Even with the 18 goals last week, the defense as a whole is communicating far better; again connected. Think of Har...

Re: Cornell 2024
Too much discussion on what fans from another generation would argue over - "who is better Mantle or Mays." I'd prefer to focus on the next two Ivy games. Why?: The Big 10 will get 3 NCAA bids (1 AQ and 2 at larges) - MD, PSU, and Hopkins -The ACC will get 4 bids (1 AQ and 3 at larges) - N...

Re: Cornell 2024
One question on rules, which may have changed in the last year or two. On Cornell last (brief) possession, when I think it was Dooley who made an excellent play getting the ball to Goldstein. I was expecting Coach B to call time out since Goldstein was under duress, though by an o-mid, not a pole. I...

Re: Cornell 2024
Thank God for frequent flier miles, as I made the long trip north to watch a terrific game. I don't believe in what I'll coin as "pyrric defeats," but this team is certainly resilient. Down 4 a few times at risk of separation and they come right out of the box at half and outplay ND. -No c...

Re: Cornell 2024
semsox is correct. There is a possible scenario that "we" wanted Penn to win, not Harvard. That is, if Harvard had won and Cornell lost to Harvard, there would have been a scenario where Cornell would have been out with a 4-2 record (depending on P & Y results). Now that Harvard has lo...

Re: Cornell 2024
I was at the game as well. ND's e tire defense was lights out, just not Rogers. Unfortunately, the Big Red offense, pretty much couldn't do a thing all day. ND's relatively unhearalded FOGO dominated that day as well. I believe this was Coach T's last game. 'Also attended the prior Cornell - ND game...
