Re: WLAX Bracketology

Is the biggest loser with this Cinci win over Ohio State… Penn State ? Looks like OSU's RPI dropped to 48, Cincinnati went up to 60. It doesn't help, but PSU's fate is in their own hands. Penn State's task is about eligibility. If they beat one of Hopkins, Maryland or Michigan, they'll be in b/c th...

Re: WLAX Bracketology

US Lax agreed with me. BC is not deserving of a seed right now. College Park, Md. North Carolina vs. Fairfield (MAAC) Winner plays at (1) Maryland (BIG TEN) Charlottesville, Va. Richmond (A-10) at (8) Virginia Princeton vs. Duke Evanston, Ill. Eastern Michigan (MAC) at (4) Northwestern Denver (BIG ...

Hey! Glad to see my work is being seen. Please share the link so: 1) we get some clicks :-) 2) folks can get the written analysis about how we sorted things out. Hope everyone is enjoying the conference season -- May will be here very soon! Just a suggestion. You might have been more tactful by sen...

Re: 2023 NCAA Championship Bracket

I’m not sure you’re correct in psu being the lowest at large RPI ever even though, as a 29 team field versus 26, it is more likely that a lower rpi than usual would get an at large bid. But a top 10 win goes a long way in sorting the last couple of at large spots and neither nova nor navy had anyth...

Re: 2023 NCAA Championship Bracket

Hopkins wasn't even among the last 4 teams in the field. A top 20 RPI, a top 10 SOS, several wins against teams in the field. They ticked off every box asked of all teams to make the tournament.

Re: ASUN Conference

I can’t help but wonder what having three of the better quality teams in D2 move to D1 will do to D2. Seems like it gets more and more hollowed out. They will do fine - the numbers this year is 113 teams, and you are losing three. And only one each from three of the four regions in DII wlax. And al...

Re: Bracketology - Always a sign The Tournament is near

There is a lot going on there! The Top 10 Average Opponent RPI ranking is what you want. The value directly to the right is the average RPI of their top 10 opponents. For example, Virginia is the No. 1 SOS with an average opponent ranking of 7.2 among their top 10 opponents entering this week's gam...

Re: Bracketology - Always a sign The Tournament is near

. There's still a chance Duke gets in at No. 8 over Loyola or Rutgers does as well if the Scarlet Knights get past Northwestern. Rutgers will definitely be seeded if they win the Big Ten. That would be sad Sad is one word for Duke getting an 8 seed. After their performance in their last 2 games I w...

Re: Bracketology - Always a sign The Tournament is near

How do you calculate SOS? Do you use a website or do you calculate your own? So their numbers are the ones I use because it's one of the five primary criteria for selection. I should have been more specific. I meant to ask how/if you personally calculate SOS. I get from your answer that you use a w...

I'm late to the party. What is the projected 6-8 seeds? Curious to see who BC might face in the elite 8. From Monday: https://www.usalaxmagazine.com/college/women/bracketology-selection-committee-sheds-clues-on-how-bracket-will-shake-out The 8 seeds I projected were the same the committee put forth...

Re: Bracketology - Always a sign The Tournament is near

How do you feel about loyola? Low rpi, but the eye test indicates a good team... it's hard to measure a team who beats their conference by such large margins. Likewise with Stony Brook? They have nearly identical profiles -- beat Florida, Princeton and Johns Hopkins, but both lost to Syracuse. Thei...

Re: Bracketology - Always a sign The Tournament is near

Why is UConn projected to be an at large team? They have a good RPI but their SOS is 47 and their only notable win was against UMass. You answered your own question. Because their RPI is 14, and that is a metric the committee has historically fixated on. It's same metric they would use as justifica...

Thank you! So I used to be a college SID. Had Saint Joseph's lacrosse (M&W) in 2008 & 2009, Penn State MLAX 2013 & 2014 and Penn State WLAX in 2015 & 2016. When I got out of sports and moved to Michigan with my family, I started freelancing and did the first brackets for USA Lacross...

Re: Bracketology - Always a sign The Tournament is near

Hey everyone! It's one of the most fun weeks of the year and happy to chime in if folks are up for reading it. First off, love the banter about the bubble teams and frustrations about RPI, SOS and the like. We need more of it. Secondly -- this is going to be a bear of a bubble to parse out. As I wr...
