Re: Virginia 2025

Yeah, from what I've seen, I agree that the next Millon looks even better. I'm surprised that I've seen some hestitancy to call Shellenberger the best UVA player of all time, like they will say he's arguably the best. It seems clear to me, both statistically and from his complete game. I don't know...

Re: Way too early 2025 top 5

Like ND, Cuse, Princeton, and Cornell in to be top-5 contenders in the early season. I'd almost add Yale, but many here think Brandau was the best lacrosse player this year, so they couldn't possibly overcome his loss. ;) On Yale (side note: I'm not sure why you need to throw in a shot at Matt Bran...

Re: Way too early 2025 top 5

Like ND, Cuse, Princeton, and Cornell in to be top-5 contenders in the early season. Notre Dame has been organized and efficient for the past few years, and Chris Kavanaugh looks poised to lead the offense. For Cuse, I really like their offense and they don't need to get better on defense given the ...

Re: QF #3 Hopkins vs #6 Virginia Sunday @2:30

LOL. This is what Hopkins has come to? The glory days are long gone… 2024 celebrating a big 10 regular season conference title? And quarter final appearances back to back years? YIKES. Why any top recruits commit to JHU is beyond me unless they’re from the area, played top MIAA and grew up going to...

Re: Tewaaraton Award 2024

O'Neill's listed weight jumped this year, and I thought he looked bigger. Don't think the muscle he added improved his game and may have slowed him down a quarter-step. The fact his assists were down probably led to his decreased shooting efficiency this season. Not at all the same player as in 2023...

Re: QF #3 Hopkins vs #6 Virginia Sunday @2:30

As to QK, amazed by the intense criticism he gets - from both sides: JHU fans who claim he's biased against, and those who think he's a JHU homer. I think he's great, and a rare leading analyst of any sport who - while being one of its biggest champions - is willing to point out flaws/shortcomings ...

Re: SF #6 Virginia vs #7 Maryland Saturday @2:30

While I could see this game play out in a variety of different ways, my gut tells me that Maryland pulls put a win on Saturday. Beyond the potential advantages at FO and in the goal, I think the biggest advantage Maryland has will be on the sideline. Tillman and crew make great adjustments, and hav...

Re: QF #3 Hopkins vs #6 Virginia Sunday @2:30

If you really want the play that turned the game around it was Hop - up 2 - Kilrain coming down on potential fast break - with the ball - passes it to Angelus who falls - scooped up by the Hoos - Cormier finally scores - I was always concerned but that's when I really got a bad feeling. I said out ...

Re: Next Programs To Win National Titles For The First Time?

Yeah, and how many titles did that buy the Jays? Who started with every advantage of being a storied program with a long history of success, which is the only reason they have alums willing to do this in the first place? The fact that Hopkins has been in the relative wilderness for a while speaks t...

I was in the game thread and said I think he is in the crease, but I am not sure there is enough evidence to over-turn it. This play was not like the Duke goal . https://www.pennlive.com/pennstate/2023/05/duke-ot-goal-called-good-despite-un-reviewable-violation-leaves-penn-state-lacrosse-beaten-by-...

Re: SF #6 Virginia vs #7 Maryland Saturday @2:30

Princeton and Gianforoco gave up 29 goals in 2 games against an anemic Maryland offense. I think the Terps win this game 1/3 of the time solely on the strength of Wierman. I also am the record that the Terps had a better chance of upsetting Duke than most thought. That being said, I fully expect to...

Re: SF #6 Virginia vs #7 Maryland Saturday @2:30

Maryland doubled up a potent offense by going against an Ivy defense. Maryland has a 1/3 chance of winning. Whether that counts as "great" is a matter of opinion and reflects your analysis that Maryland needs its to best players to perform to win whereas Virginia is less dependent on any ...

Re: SF #6 Virginia vs #7 Maryland Saturday @2:30

I think the way Virginia plays defense presents a lot of challenges for Maryland. Long and rangy, slower to slide, and able to cover space on the inside with their length. The question will be does the goalie let some iffy ones in. Maryland had a low assist rate against Duke because they were makin...

Re: SF #1 Notre Dame vs #5 Denver Saturday @ noon

Hard to see Denver keeping this game within three goals. ND will ride Denver into the ground, especially if the refs let the Irish push and slash for four quarters. ND will get to rest their guys. If Maryland wins, expect a never-ending string of complaints on X about the late game disadvantage once...

Re: SF #6 Virginia vs #7 Maryland Saturday @2:30

This will be Virginia in a big way. Maryland can not stay with them offensively. Maryland doubled up a potent Princeton offense. Maryland requires two critical pieces to thrive: FOGO and goalie play. If they get those, they can win and it shouldn’t surprise you. Might not be a blowout, but they abs...

Re: Tewaaraton Award 2024

Unless Pat Kavanagh has an unreal weekend en route to a title, this is Shelly's award. Even then, it probably still won't be enough. Shellenberger may have already won it after his "Tewaaraton moment" yesterday. Entenmann hasn't done enough and Chris has outplayed Pat so far in the tourna...

Re: UVA 2024

... If there was any doubt who’s going to be the ignition for UVA next year, there isn’t any more. Millon took over for most of the game for the Hoos. Shelley when it counted most... I was impressed by how both took the microphone at any given moment but neither did it selfishly. That's a skill. Be...

Re: QF #3 Hopkins vs #6 Virginia Sunday @2:30

Which is why I consider Tillman to be the best in the business. His teams come to win at NCAA tournament time. Maryland always seems to have a blue collar mentality player who leads their way...this year, IMO, it's Weirman. I think TIllman is the best lacrosse coach in the country. He isnt the best...
