Re: 2024 top 20
Personally, I like the Power Rankings . I might like it even more if, instead of an arbitrary 10-goal cutoff, they used some kind of log function or Fibonacci sequence. It incorporates margin of victory and home field advantage, but does not trend. That is, an outcome in February is as significant a...

Re: Notre Dame 2024
I have no inside information, but I read that as soon as Jordan Faison played a single down last fall, his (I assume partial) lax scholarship was terminated and he was given a full-ride football scholarship.

Re: TV Broadcasts/Announcers/Production
There was a discussion on antother thread about announcing, and yesterday I watched UMD/Rutgers WLax. The male PBP announcer said Player Advantage while the female color said man-up. She also said man-to-man defense, when it was clear that the PBP was avoiding that term. As the game wore on it becam...

Re: Big Ten 2024
And he did come through with a couple of goals right after I posted. Look, I want players to say, "Put me in, coach, I can still do it." But I want the coach to know what is best for the program and the player long-term. I remember cringing as I watched Joey hobbling in that first Loyola g...

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
Because we won face-offs against their back-ups.
That said, while the Jays do not have a single ace, in the heat of May it is nice to have two decent options.

In the JHU thread there is speculation that he is hurt. But no matter the reason, surely there is somebody who can produce more.

Re: Food thread - All things food-related
I grew up with "sauce". Moved to Philadelphia, and "gravy" is a class marker here, indicating origins in South Philly. No high-end Italian restaurant will call it gravy.

Re: NIL and Lacrosse
Right 510K/520K student-athletes have nothing to negotioate over. They are given a tremendous gift: An admission slot. It is the remaining 10K athletes that could benefit from negotiations. Edit to add, now that I think about it, the NCAA's count of 520K student athletes probabably includes DII and ...

Re: NIL and Lacrosse
According to the NCAA, there are 520K student-athletes. Figure there are a thousand who individually are difference-makers in FBall and MBBall. They would benefit from negotiating individually. Figure there are 80 players across 100 FBall teams that are necessary for big-time FBall. 8,000. Figure th...

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
It is Thuraya and no parts since Monday. That doesn't seem right. Big question is can Hopkibs return back to its UVA level of play and not Navy level of play to win st Rutgers - a particular house of horrors for Hopkins. Can't let us fall of the first page. Maybe I'm being pollyannaish here, but I ...

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
When somebody is suddenly unwilling to take it to the rack, I assume a little nagging injury that is not enough to sideline him, but enough to slow him down.
Remember the wheels suddenly came off a good OSU team after glovegate. Let's hope for a bounce-back in B1G play.

Re: Navy 2024
Congrats, and yes to parity in general this season, but the Mids play the Jays tough every year.
This year, they were the better team.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
On an unrelated note, I've always wondered (potential difficult woke president aside), has Hopkins ever considered going D1 in all sports? Certainly if Loyola can, I don't see why not. Granted they don't have football but still. Why would they? What would the upside be? Years ago, there were some o...

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
milliman is gator wrestling with the administration again!!! and admissions, because of course. question, has the navy game become a must win game just to have a shot in may? and is that where the program thought they'd be in year 4? What does any of this mean? especially the first part I don't und...
