Re: 2024 Bracketology

pretty easy to google the formulas used, but No, it does not include margin of victory. (no bonus points for 'Bama beating on the Little Sisters of teh Poor by 70.) For example, one that used to be popular: Though the BCS is now defunct, its calculation for strength of schedule lives on. This syste...

Re: 2024 Bracketology

From a statistical perspective, the issue to me isn't the RPI or Strength of Schedule (SOS) being used as individual composite variables. To me, it's the use of both in conjunction. The RPI is a strength of schedule indicator (opponent's win%, opponent's opponents' win%). RPI and SOS share significa...

Re: 2024 Bracketology

Look, much respect to Terry Foy in general, but this looks like some serious hopium: "When it comes to this year’s bubble, I think that’s the challenge. Princeton is No. 8, Penn State is No. 9 in RPI. Penn State’s résumé is better than Princeton’s — they have an equal number of quality wins and...

Re: Maryland 2024

Given some of the bracket projections (MD at 7 or 6), consider me surprised. I know the committee looks at the whole season and not just the last 2, but looking ahead, does the team have the confidence to win? On one hand, Tills' scheduling made it possible to be in this position. On the other hand,...

Re: TV Broadcasts/Announcers/Production

A broadcast team talking delis, chicken parm sandwiches, traffic, workout routines, haircuts!!! is different from not keeping track of other pertinent games. No argument for me on those things, and I agree that stuff is annoying. But people have also complained any time that they mention teams that...

Re: TV Broadcasts/Announcers/Production

Matt Ward just gave D1 coaches and players a big lesson during the UVa v ND game: the "Big Hit" isn't worth the risk/reward metric. He's 100% right. Picture the game-changing NCAA tournament game where fans are whining about how it shouldn't be 2-3 minutes. Don't risk it. Hip check. Push ...

Re: Maryland 2024

On the bright side the past 2 years haven’t been bad years to be down. ND basically has dominated - look at UVA, I guarantee they started the season with Natty in full mind, what do you think they are thinking now. My point a team like UVA with complete studs will most likely be watching on Memoria...

Re: Maryland 2024

Opponents have such little respect for Maryland shooters that when the ball goes behind the goal, every off-ball defensive player basically sloughs in to 5-and-5. Maryland midfielder also slough in, so the recoveries for the defense are pretty easy. Outside of Siracusa and occasionally Spanos, no on...

Re: Maryland 2024

Just as an aside. The PSU game is a bit of an outlier, because PSU gave Maryland multiple transition goals. The PSU fogo would lose the face and inexplicably run off the field and make it 6 v 5. It was very strange. I am not sure that is a good example of Maryland working the transition or PSU havi...

Re: Coaching Carousel 2024

There's always that rumor that Dan Chemotti is waiting for Dino to retire at Duke, but Brown would be really smart to kick the tires on him. Started his coaching career at Dartmouth. Can’t imagine chemotti would leave Richmond for any Ivy program seriously but I i suppose doesn’t hurt to get a no. ...

Re: Coaching Carousel 2024

Wouldn't be surprised if Jesse Bernhardt got a look. Spent some time at Princeton, so he's familiar with the Ivy.

I've always been really impressed by the work that Keegan Wilkinson has done at Marist.

Re: Maryland 2024

I can't imagine that Tills and Phipps won't make some changes. Don't know if those will be schematic, personnel, or both. Without consistent outside shooting and defenses collapsing off-ball into the paint, they're going to have to figure out some way to get things up top moving. Opportunities are t...

Re: Maryland 2024

This thread reads like a post-mortem on a wasted season. You guys are performing an autopsy on the patient while he’s still alive, already looking at 2025. Man. Tillman could turn this around with one decision: go uptempo. You’ve got an AA first teamer at FOGO but you take the full shot clock to ge...

With everyone lamenting the lack of dodging, the comments about Ford and Gardiner don't seem...

Re: Maryland 2024

Regarding Spencer Ford, he's more like Eric Spanos size and style-wise. Wouldn't be surprised to see him follow Spanos' exact path. Gardiner out of Gonzaga is a strong lefty. Not sure he's exactly a dodger as much as a very good shooter. Higgins comes in for 26 season. He's your quintessential X att...

Re: Maryland 2024

Preemptive post: Anyone who brings up Bobby Benson, keep in mind 2 things. 1) During his two seasons running Tills' offense, he had Jared, Logan, Long, Donville, Khan, and DeMaio. 4 of those guys are Top 30 all-time in career points (1, 2, 19, 28). Khan is Nova's 5th all-time leading scorer. Donvill...

Re: Maryland 2024

I think Tillman is a little too cautious with this team. Also, people speak in generalizations with him and his mindset too much. From 2011-2015, it was that all he cared about was stalling and didn't know how to coach offense by letting players play....and then he got Rambo and Kelly and Heacock a...

Re: Maryland 2024

It shouldn't have been surprising to see Smith take Erksa instead of Kilrain, who'd been taking the opponents' top dodger for a few weeks now. Erksa struggles with physical defensemen who can run well enough to at least keep a stick in his gloves. Usually, when you get a physical defender, you eithe...
