Re: NCAC 2024

My money's on OWU in that one. Since the game is in Delaware, they won't have to deal with "the effects of the long bus ride in the first half."

Re: NCAC 2024

I made it to Crawfordsville for today’s Wabash v. OWU game, and if you only look at the final score, you may be missing a bit. OWU led 6-3 at halftime, and it was a well played, hard fought first half — no fluke goals or bad penalties, just a good back-and-forth game. OWU had 30 on the bench compare...

Re: NCAA Proposal re Tournament Selection Criteria

One note though, is that each sport committee has the ability to reflexively adjust the emphasis on win-loss record and SOS. If I understand the process, within the formula there is a combined factor of 1.00 for these two things. They can be viewed at .50/.50, or if the sport committed wanted to emp...

Re: NCAC 2024

Ned - a funny story about Wabash's aversion to extra lines: Back in 2008-09ish, when planning for the initial stadium field-turf, some questioned whether the soccer program might finally be welcome in Little Giant stadium. They'd always been in aptly named Mud Hollow (next to the football practice f...

Re: NCAC 2024

Can Opener - I agree with you. I think it's much better to have the benches and fans on the same side. Some sites have limitations and that's okay, but I never understood when a program had ample room to do it that way and yet chose to isolate the teams on the other side. Anyway, one thing I've foun...

Ned, we’ve missed you. All fun aside, your comments all seem pretty reasonable. Welcome back.

Re: NCAC 2024

Yes, I think you're right. Some friends are in Florida with their son and DPU baseball this week. I can imagine how excited the lax guys are: "Hey, where'd you guys play on Spring Break?" Denison - "Lexington and Lynchburg, Virginia. Tough games, but a great trip" Hiram - "N...

Re: NCAC 2024

Nothing like a Wednesday jaunt to Del Valley! Any idea why DePauw would do that?

Re: NCAC 2024

Right now, I’m not sure this would be a one-bid conference if it weren’t automatic!

Re: NCAC 2024

Two other conference games today that could be telling:
Hanover at DePauw (Throw out their romp over Anderson, and DPU averages <6 goals per game)
John Carroll at Denison (Denison has home field advantage, but I'm not sure a 7PM start in 30 degree temps favors anyone)

Re: NCAC 2024

I'm not discounting any strength of schedule claims (that are extremely valid), and obviously this will change a lot, but this is kinda wild: NCAC Team W - L Wabash 6 - 1 Kenyon 6 - 3 Oberlin 5 - 2 Wooster 5 - 3 Wittenberg 4 - 0 DePauw 4 - 2 Hiram 4 - 3 OWU 3 - 3 Denison 2 - 4

Yes - it's interesting how quiet this board is when Denison is 2-4 ;)

Re: NCAC 2024

I just looked up Heidelberg’s schedule and thought I’d clicked the baseball link by mistake. Six total games with neither team scoring ten goals. How does that happen?

Re: NCAC 2024

I guess I thought I was pretty clear, but let me state it a different way. I think the ‘24 Wabash team would beat the ‘23 Wabash team by 8 to 10 goals.

I’m curious to see others’ opinions when framed the same way.

Re: NCAC 2024

We all follow certain programs more closely than others, so here's my question for all of you. Of the teams that you have an opinion on, how does this year's team compare to last year's? I'll start: I think '24 Wabash is 8-10 goals better than '23 Wabash.

Re: Lindenwood to drop Lacrosse

... and they didn't think of any of these eventualities 18 months ago? That's the crazy part! IMHO, either they were incredibly incompetent considering the projections of the superseding four years, or this was their plan all along.

Re: Lindenwood to drop Lacrosse

No arguing your comments about endowment, but Lindenwood is also a school with little to no debt. When my son was recruited in 2016 I believe they told us they were one of four nationwide with “no debt”. It’s amazing to me their D1 decision was so shortsighted that they didn’t have a plan or commitm...

Lindenwood to drop Lacrosse

https://lindenwoodlions.com/news/2023/12/1/general-athletic-department-special-announcement.aspx This was just announced about two hours ago. Eighteen months after elevating all sports to Div. I, they make the announcement to drop ten sports. Ridiculous!! My two cents: First, a wimpy move to announ...
